It could happen, but I don't care. MT wasn't going to work here. He didn't accept his role, and he was hurting the team. Now he goes to Brooklyn, and he finds Johnson and Pierce in front of him. Will he be able to be productive from the bench, in a role that he never accepted here? I believe he has to be "the guy" to be productive, so I'm glad we traded him. MT will have some good games, I'm sure, but we know him. He's a chucker, he just scores when he's on. When he's off he doesn't help the team in any way. He's just an inefficient scorer and nothing more.

It feels like Reggie Evans is the player the Kings wanted, Terry is the one they were forced to take. With that, I expect Evans to see some playing time here .. leading me to believe a big or two are on the way out before Thursday. You just can't play Acy, Landry, Cousins, Thompson, and Evans. Acy and Evans make decent 4th bigs. Landry and Thompson make decent third bigs (When Landry can actually play) .. too much overlap there.

We got the most talent out of the Gay deal, and Toronto is still pretty happy about that.
I didn't dislike Thornton, but he was awful this year. I would root for him in Brooklyn, but it's a New York team and I really don't want to go to hell.

this strikes me as mostly a lateral trade with a couple of minor ancillary benefits:
1) it allows the new regime to put their full faith in the development of ben mclemore, which has been their inclination since draft day 2013
2) it breaks up thornton's oversized contract into more manageable expirings that can potentially be moved next season
so, not a lot to write home about, particularly given mclemore's slow development. i mean, it's not as if the kings are making room for a young player who's breaking out mid-season, and it's not as if mclemore is going to receive more opportunities to shoot than thornton did, not while isaiah thomas remains a member of the starting lineup, that is. but it's also not as if the kings didn't have designs on eventually giving the starting SG spot [back] to mclemore, anyway...

I dont doubt coach Malone was tired of his presence just as I as a fan and probably the team were. If it saves close to 1.5 mil that isn't insignificant given our financial issues

Where did you get 1.5M? From what I have read it's just under 1M.

My ideal situation would have been Marcus Thornton being a lights out scorer averaging nearly 20 ppg on pretty good percentages while McLemore developed and started really coming on strong at the trade deadline so that we could trade MT for real value and be confident we were handing the keys to a rookie who would do well in the role.
Instead we deal Thornton for spare parts and Ben hasn't shown enough to earn minutes, let alone a starting spot on a decent team. Still, this move may be addition by subtraction. We'll see.

I guess I'm not 100 percent on this but I went to hoopshype to check salaries. Thornton (8.697) - Terry (5.45) in addition to Evans (1.768)

That was my hope this summer as well, but it's been clear all season that was not going to be the case. Although Thornton did show some increased effort on defense, rebounding, and passing, he wasn't going to be a future part of the team. Considering he tanked his trade value, I'm ok with the "flexible pieces" return.
What does concern me is the huge discrepancy in +/1 between the starting lineups with Thornton and McLemore (link here). Hopefully it's just a matter of Thornton happening to be in the starting lineup when things clicked between Cousins and Gay, and not anything that Thornton was doing that McLemore was not.
And for all of those still butt hurt over not resigning Tyreke the Kings will now have his cousin.

Well I think the main motivation for this move was to split Thornton into two smaller contracts that could be traded either this summer or next year as throw in pieces and to save some money this summer. In the mean time, we have the best rebounding front court in the league when Cuz and Evans are on the floor together.
That may belong to DeAndre Jordan and Blake Griffin.
Right my bad, because I know for a fact some people thought they were. Tyreke does have a brother or cousin or whatever called Reggie Evans but they aren't the same

heres my take on the trade for what its worth.
THORNTON WAS AN EPIC, EPIC FAIL.... with a big man superstar in Cousins and Gay drawing attention he was totally unable to produce anything. Honesty I don't think he can't play in ANY system where he's disallowed to hog the ball and play that one on one style we had with Tyreke. He can't handle the ball outside of setting up his own shot and he can't play off the ball. He doesn't play defense. He has 100% proven he can't do a damn thing on this team in this system. and best of all he most likely didn't want to. He was called out earlier in the year for his attitude and I'm sure thats an underling to him being moved.
as far as Jason Terry. He was just playing with the "over the hill gang" for a terrible coach and total mess of a franchise. Being on the floor with 2 stars in their prime (Cousins,Gay) may go to a long way in getting him semi back on track. While I don't expect him to be anything but a solid role player probably just for this year only I think he might have a little more left in the tank than what we've seen. He can handle the ball some...there was once upon a time he avg 7 ast a game, and is similar to IT so if we keep IT our offense basically will be running the same way no matter who is playing at that time.
Im not proclaiming Terry as a superstar game changer by any means but SERIOUSLY a younger roster. Cousins and Gay. He might be able to operate at a higher level for us.... IT WOULD BE PRETTY TOUGH TO PLAY WORST THAN MT WAS.... LOL!

I like that Jason Terry is now on the Kings, he is a winner, veteran with has a Championship ring. Hopefully he can help teach these guys how to be winners on this team could be a good thing. Seems I am in the few but I am happy Tyreke Evans is gone he was overated anyhow look how great the Pelicans are with Evans. I will take Rudy Gay anyday.

Personally, been on great teams, been on terrible teams. Very few guys are good enough to make the difference between winning and losing. Jason Terry isn't one of them.
Our guard rotation got even worse. One thing Terry is most definitely not, is a pass first PG.

We had 4 guards. Now we have 3. Terry is a 10-15 ineffective minutes per game player at this point. If he ever plays for us.
If you think Thornton has been awful, you should watch Terry play.

To be fair, I'm discounting Ray in my 3 guard attack. It seems like he'll be a major player going forward. Still, ray is likely a step back from Thornton. It's the right move today, but a decent veteran for a complete unknown rookie is a step back.

Bit of a "meh" trade for both teams. Its making trade for the sake of it.
MT will be stuck with all the rest of the shot hungry players over at the Nyets so he will probably get less shots than he did here and Terry and Evans don't do a great deal for us either.
