NY Daily News - Golden State wants Ron Artest, even if he looks like a questionable fit with coach Mike Montgomery in only his second NBA season and the Warriors lacking strong personalities in the locker room to keep Artest in place. So far, the Warriors haven't been amenable to including rookie Ike Diogu in a package to the Pacers.
In considering some slim pickings being offered for Artest, the Pacers have been firm in their demands for a young player with lots of potential. They like Diogu, a 6-8 forward taken ninth overall last June. But the Warriors are reluctant to deal him, since he is one of their few players who can play in the post.
Indiana seems to be more enamored with Diogu than Troy Murphy, whose outside shooting would be a perfect fit with Jermaine O'Neal. The Pacers are said to be against taking Murphy's remaining contract (five years, $50 million). They've told potential suitors that they want to shed contracts and lower their luxury tax. That's why they're looking to package what they consider bad contracts when they move Artest.

Since when have the Kings been a running, flashy "ball-in-between-the-legs" type of a team? Not since 2003 from what I've seen. That's Phoenix/Seattle/Dallas/Cleveland/Milwaulkee/Atlanta/Denver. Never seen Peja regularly or sometimes do any "passing between the legs", either, lol.
I understand what JO said about Peja ("fitting into what we're doing"), team defense-wise, since he's not that good there/inconsistent. But his man-man defense isn't bad or medicore, it's been pretty solid and consistent for awhile.
Ron Artest also fits into the mold he's talking about.![]()

Indianapolis Star - Indiana Pacers officials aren't talking, but a former Pacer thinks he knows where Ron Artest will be traded.
Al Harrington told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution on Wednesday that he heard from people in Indiana the Pacers were close to a deal that would send Artest to the Los Angeles Clippers for forward Corey Maggette.
"Any team with a sane Ron Artest is going to be tough to deal with," Harrington told the Atlanta newspaper. "Any team he's on with his mind right is going to the playoffs and is going to make some noise. So it'll be good for Ron and for the Clippers."
Pacers CEO Donnie Walsh declined comment Wednesday.
The Pacers placed Artest on the inactive list Dec. 12, two days after he voiced his desire to be traded. Artest said he hears the rumors about where he will end up.
"You hear about them, but you never know what's true," he said. "I'm just waiting to find out which team I'll be playing for."
Kings113 said:Sure it could.
But since 15-20+ teams have called the Pacers about getting him, a whole bunch of players saying they'd want him on their team, and Walsh and Bird are widdling down deals, I'd say he is, along with his skills.
But he will, indeed, be dealt one way or another.
Kings113 said:Just whats been reported and said a handful of times as the Artest ordeal has developed. Widdling down the deals as in setting apart the serious and not as serious offers, which was said by Walsh/Bird a couple times.
I believe both statements simply because of Artest's talent.

It could end up that Ron Artest goes NOWHERE and simply sits out the rest of this season.
ESPN - The much-discussed trade that would send wayward forward Ron Artest from Indiana to Los Angeles for Clippers swingman Corey Maggette, believed to be on the verge of completion this week, has fizzled.
NBA front-office sources told ESPN.com on Thursday that the Pacers have abandoned their interest in Maggette because of concerns with his troublesome left foot.
The Clippers, sources said, will have to wait up to a month for the removal of Maggette's cast to determine if the 26-year-old can be reactivated or if an ongoing tendon problem will require season-ending surgery. Indiana, as a result, has elected not to pursue the deal, even though Maggette -- a rugged scorer known for getting to the free-throw line --- had been near the top of its wish list since the Pacers decided last month that they would honor Artest's public request to be traded.
ESPN.com reported Wednesday that the Golden State Warriors , along with the Clippers, were the frontrunners in the Artest sweepstakes, which will soon stretch into a sixth week. The latest Maggette development theoretically enhances Golden State's chances, but the Pacers covet power forward Ike Diogu and the Warriors considered the burly rookie an untouchable.
