i hope this trade gets over the top and win a championship because i don't understand why we mortgage the kings future with a trade like this.

guys guys, let's not forget he's arguably the best all-round defender in the NBA, and that defensive leadership could do wonders for our team heading forward, especially if we can trade a defensive liability in Bibby. Artest is just hitting his prime, and I'm really a firm believer in second chances, also cause the guy NEVER took a play off, I can't not like the guy as a player, just can't. Just watch, next year he's going to be an all-star, 1st defensive team, and hopefully a stable building block moving forward for this franchise.

Petrie has made comments like this before. And yes, Artest will be a King until the day he isn't a King. The only thing Petrie really said is that he hasn't been in communication with the Knicks front office.
Geoff Petrie has never revealed his hand ahead of time and he's certainly not going to tell the NY Post, "Yes, we're trying to find a way to dump Artest but so far nothing is working."
This whole thing has pretty much been the creation of Marc Berman anyway. I wonder if his contract with the Post is up for renewal or something and he was just trying to boost his readership figures.

And Petie has never been misquoted or hevans forbid told players/press one thing then done another... I read the story and the OTHER stories as well. The gist of this SI PIECE is all focused on Ron and mostly on what he says. True there is a sprinkling of quotes from other people including the one from Petrie but I have no real confidence that they are accurate given the source and the general focus on the piece (arguing that Artest will not be traded)
Now there is a whole DIFFERENT discussion about weather Artest CAN be traded for anything like comprable value... but that is best left for another thread. In short I just cant buy this one. And yes that is PRIMARLY beceause the main source of the story is Ron.

If we're going to trade anyone Ron has to be it. One, because his contract isn't that expensive and won't make a heck of a difference as an expiring. Two, because there is actually teams out there interested in his services, teams are more wary of Bibby it seems because of his contract situation and his down year. Bibby's value can go up, I don't see Artest's value going up that much if at all and also there's always the chance it can blow up even further like it did last year. Three, we just have to move on to our new era and frankly I'm going to be pissed if Artest is still apart of that. I don't think it's the image we want to create and let's face it, the guy is always a looming problem. Frankly he embarrases the team saying crap like this. If Artest is our franchise player expect mid 1st picks for the rest of the decade.

The media wants a scoop so they try and ask Petrie leading questions. When they don't get the exact answer they need, they simply rephrase how they report the quote.
Petrie isn't going to reveal his plans for any of the players via the media. And I wouldn't want him to.
You do realize that's pretty much what Pacers fans said for a long time, right?
He's had a second chance; and a third. At some point you just have to realize that no matter how much you want him to work out, he's always going to be a ticking bomb. I've made the comparison before, but he's a classic character for a Shakespearean tragedy. He has a lot of strengths but he's also fatally flawed.

Fairly simple: about the only scenario where keeping Ron makes sense. People are scratching their head otherwise.
We'll see how this goes, but maybe we should have kept Muss. The fear is that any change, any change at all, is enough excuse to knock Geoff back into "evaluating" mode. Last year Muss comes in, so Geoff decisdes more evaluation is in order despite obvous problems. This year Reggie comes in and...?
