Artest makes gallant offer (merged)

And if the fates had been just a little more kind and we had at least one O'Brien trophy in the hallowed halls of Arco, I don't think anyone would even be thinking about second-guessing those decisions.

INDEED!

well the maloofs are trying to cut back on the payroll ;)

he's right, bring back bonzi and rick. they have both earned new contracts IMO

Hey, that's fun and great for team morale if Bonzi and Rick do come back. But of course if they don't...
If they don't them IMHO its a real worry.

Our top priorities should be re-signing Adelman and Wells. That should be on top of the "To do" list for the managment.

and I'm sure they're well aware of this, as are the rest of us

I still worry about it though.

Wells will command more than what he earnt this year ($8M) and I am nervous about the possibility of losing Adelman. I don't think that Phil Jackon episode of last summer was forgotten by RA.

Over the last 2-3 years Maloofs have said that they would like to avoid luxury tax and that kind of hard if they are planning to re-sign Bonzi.

I am hoping we can get the both re-signed and then move onto other areas of concern.

I have a feeling no matter what they decide about the cap they have to do whatever it takes to put a real championship contender on the floor. These days it's not just about a winning team but they need to move public support towards the positive for a new arena. One of the best ways to sway some positive support is to put a real winner on the floor.

The stakes are higher the next few years and I think thats why we are seeing the Maloofs getting involved like they used to be. Which IMO is a great thing, I am all for owners that are active in everything.

I think this latest thing with Artest, the obvious public sentiment in favor of Bonzi and Adelman, and 300 sell-outs at ARCO puts the Maloofs in a sticky situation. They are poised to become the Grinches that stole basketball from Sacramento. I think they are in a tough spot.

Perhaps they can create some cap-space by trading one or two expensive players?

Best option right now, I think. May be over the cap for a year, but with expiring contracts you might be able to bring it down the next.

This assumes we bring back Bonzi at a little more than he's making now and it pushes us over the limit, as we are barely under it now....

Well I think the maloofs are smart in watching money... I think Players should less greedy and if they want championships... they need to see that they have to allow for further team growth. Look at the spurs... they are in the middle of the teams for salary... not a bloated team like the mav's(which is the only good team with a really high salary). Boonzi should say "Ill take 5 mil a year with a 10 percent increase for 6 years" if he wanted a championship

that deal sounds good for bonzi, except players can only be signed for 5 years now

No, I think free agents can sign for 5 with another team and 6 with the "home" team. 7 years is no longer an option, IIRC.
