Artest condensed

First post and first thread.

I haven't had time to go through all the threads yet. Besides, I wouldn't want to address this in each and every thread so I hope you will all forgive me. So I will just kind of go point-by-point.

Ron will get a clean slate here and the benefit of the doubt.

Comment: You better have those those available by the gross. You can't even begin to understand how many times management and the fans did that.

Ron is better than Peja.

Comment: There is no doubt about that. But, not having Ron's talent versus not having Ron's distractions is an even trade. Peja was just a throw in.

Maturity

Comment: You are dealing with a 6-year-old mentality. This guy never learns and he never changes - NEVER. Better get Super Nanny on the phone.

He will help the team.

Comment: Yes, he is quite capable. But he is also more capable of bringing a franchise to its knees. He single-handedly is responsible for destroying the last two years for us.

Peja on an ending contract

Comment: Wait till Ron gets restless and wants to somehow get to New York. Ron doesn't wait for a contract to end. What he wants, he wants NOW!

Baggage

Comment: Not only do you get Ron's significant baggage, but you also get the baggage of the Brawl. You will almost never see a story about Ron without footage of that incident. You also get Stern. He watches EVERY move Ron makes.

I have been a fan of the Pacers for years and years and years. It's difficult to remember a more talented player than Ron. Nor one more hated. He has blackened the eye of one of the more respected NBA franchises and it has sickened me. I always felt the Kings franchise was very classy. Do you get where I am going with this?

You have a chance to save yourself. The Maloof's need to trade him by the deadline. The price of not doing so is more than any of you want to pay.

we know but desperate times require desperate measures

I see it this way...our season is already in shambles and the fan base is bored with how the team was playing. Heck, I would safely assume that most fans were just checking the sports ticker for the scores knowing full well games are televised just because of the lousy gameplay.

I maintained all along that a majority of teams were undervaluing Artest because what downside is there for a team that's not going to make the playoffs anyway. I think the Kings made a bold move and they will be roundly criticized if it doesn't work out, but in the end, they didn't give up much (1/2 season from an injured player performing well below his career numbers) and in turn they got a player that will raise the intensity level of the entire team . . . if they can keep him on the court. If they can't, then they're going to the same place they were with Peja. Props to the Kings for making the move.

This year, we're better without Peja (7-4), than with him (11-20). So all we lost was a player who Adelman had to play that was currently keeping the team from it's potential. I'm not saying we were going to win anything big but this year, with Peja on the court, we weren't much of a team at all.

I tried watching the games and I didn't goto the Kings-Grizzles game in Memphis like I did last year (blowout) since I knew it was going to be a joke (didn't even watch it on tv). I think Ron brings some excitement and some interest into us playing well as a team. Ron is definitely an upgrade over the current Peja when he is on the court. He brings something we haven't had since Christie in his prime and that is a prime time defender.

Bonzi is above average and SAR plays well from time to time, but the rest of our team is still filled with poor defensive players. Well, I guess Skinner ain't bad but then again, he ain't getting minutes. I wish for the days of old when we didn't need a guy like Artest, but it could be a good thing.

The problem with our team is other than Garcia and Martin everyone else is near their prime. If we didn't pull the deal, we already saw the writing on the wall, the current team was terrible. We'd either have to trade Peja, lose Peja, or rebuild entirely because theirs no reason to have Brad and Bibby in their primes and be a last place team. We don't have a super young core, Bibby and Brad and SAR need to win now. This was an option to win now and it looks like a viable option barring we do make a couple of more moves.

trade him by the deadline? aren't there some NBA CBA rules against that?
Actually, no... Artest CAN be traded at any time before the deadline (or in the offseason). Right now, the only restriction is that he can only be traded by himself (not bundled up with another player). After this season, he can be traded any way we see fit.
