Artest arrested

Grant just said Artest has been indefinitely excused from the Kings. Sounds like the team is giving him time to get this thing figured out. He has not been suspended according to Grant.

If our future depended solely on trading Artest, I would agree. But I hardly think that's the biggest of our problems.

It's not one of the kings biggest problems but I would call one of the kings most talented players not having ANY trade value whatsoever a pretty big problem.

Artest has been excused from the team. According to Napear on 1140.

Oh lordy.

I mentioned before the trade deadline that you just could not be late in trading Ron Artest, because the next incident would make him almost untradeable. But...what now?

One comment of note:

The Placer County Sheriff said they had been called to the residence several times before on accusations of domestic violence but had never found any reason to arrest anyone.

It certainly sounds like there might be a lot more (or less) to this than has been reported.

I wonder what Stern is thinking right now? Does he have hammer in hand?
While I expect the Kings to take whatever action they feel is appropriate I would be livid if Stern does anything before there is a conviction. That has always been the rule of thumb no matter what the charge... DUI, perjury, marijuana and even rape.

Oh absolutely PDX. Stern will wait until he finds out the details and lets the justice system takes its course. IF he is found guilty then you will probably see Stern drop the hammer down HARD. If he takes into account artests checkered past I wouldn't be suprised to see a lifetime ban dropped on Artest.

Well there goes the slim chance of moving Ron and the slimmer chance of doing anything in the post season... I hope all the people directly involved (Ron, his wife and kids) get professional help to sort this out and dela with what ever is going on in thier home.

I'm unsure about that, just given the history of Stern's reactions. He has no use for Ron, and if Ron had started another on court brawl or whatnot, I have no doubt. But for this kind of off court thing I think it would have to be pretty lurid for that kind of action. Eddie Griffin is still in the league, Jason Richardson, Kobe Bryant, Ruben Patterson etc. Not sure actually I can recall the last guy actually banned from the league for stuff not covered under the CBA (i.e. drugs or whatnot).

Stern has Ron on a short leash, just not sure if domestic issues qualify or not unless they are really ugly.

I don't think a lifetime ban would happen because sadly domestic abuse plagues many athletes. Even though Ron is a special case there will be victim's rights groups wanting severe penalties everytime an athlete commits any kind of assault if they hand out the career death penalty.

How many games did Reuben Patterson get suspended for? I'd suspect Ron could get double that. But I expect this to quietly go away during the offseason when Ron's wife refuses to press charges. Sometimes a DA will still push for something but I'm not sure this would be politically expedient. We'll see.

This is the last thing we need. We are becoming the laughing stock of the league with all the off court problems we've had this year

Now it will be almost impossible to move him

For what it's worth: ESPN just said that they received notice from the Kings that Artest had been "indefinitely excused" from the team. They quoted Petrie as saying they would be accumulating more facts and information from reliable sources before determining any addition action...

So basically the Kings organization told him to get lost while they figure this thing out?

Alot of you are coming down on Ron really hard... This isn't anything that Jason Kidd or Allen Iverson haven't gone through and I'd gladly take both of them on the Kings...

Didn't one just got traded and the other rumoured to be on the block?

People are entitled to their feelings, especially on something like domestic violence. I don't think you need to pass judgment on others in order to post your own feelings.

i seem to remember someone saying we should trade ron artest at the deadline. nah, he's too great of a leader, role model, and cornerstone player. he'll lead us to a championship, no doubt. wow, boy was that person wrong about ron.

Basically - a big "just stay away until we sort this out" notification. I understand/assume that at this point he's still going to be paid until they can determine if this is something to suspend him over or not.

Actually that would be the Pacers. We've got a long way to go before we hit that level or that of the Jailblazers squads of a few years back.

What does this mean? He is suspended from the team? I heard take as much time as you need to work it out...blah...blah...blah. We all know how much he loves to play. Well I guess this Salmons thread in the Personel section is good, because he will be taking over for Ron, at least for now and probably the rest of the season.

Maggette

All I can say is, I sure wish Petrie would have done the Maggette deal. Goodbye to any value for Ron Artest. His stock just went to the pink sheets.
