Arron Afflalo?

I read this trade proposal on another site, but it seemed to have enough merit to bring up here.

Orlando Magic Receive: PG Ray MacCallum, SG Jason Terry and Sacramento's 2014 first-round pick (No. 8 overall)

Sacramento Kings Receive: SG Arron Afflalo and New York's 2014 first-round pick (No. 12)

This would address a couple of things from our end - Specifically our perimeter game. Affalo is a 3 and D guy, and is a good mentor to McLemore, who we'd retain with this trade unlike a lot of scenarios i've read. We'd also retain a pick in the lottery, which would allow us to draft any number of players - Saric, Ennis, Payton, Payne, LeVine, etc. who can either help right away (Payne, Saric, etc) or be prospects, like LeVine. Not to mention, if we play small ball, the lineup would be Thomas (assuming he returns), McLemore, Affalo, Gay, Cousins. That's an exciting lineup.

Orlando would still draft Exum, allow Oladipo to move back to his natural SG role, and move up 4 spots in the draft with their second pick and select any one of the remaining PFs available - Randle, Vonleh, or Gordon.

I am not sure I would give up on Ray Mac so soon, especially after what he showed us late last season....If Orlando wouldn't mind pulling the trigger if we swap Ray Mac with Ben Mac, then I probably would be all over that.....

I personally wouldn't give up on Ben Mac, either. Jay Bilas said last year that's he's raw with a ton of upside. Upside doesn't guarantee success, but i would like to see him do in year 2. I don't know if Orlando would trade up four spots to the 8th pick WITHOUT receiving Ray or Ben in exchange for Afflalo.

I think orlando takes it every other offer that's rumored is involving a pick either the Bulls or Hornets.

Afflalo would be a great 3rd piece on our team who can create and play defense. He would improve 2 of our weakness 3point shooting and perimeter defense and he's a good character vet.

Afflalo si exactly yhe player I would like to see on our team. Good defender, doesn't hurt you on the offensive side, good character guy, proven veteran. If we could get him by moving down just by 4 spots, I would be a really happy fan.

I like ray a lot but I'm not getting emotional if afllalo is coming back the other way.

We need solid players who produce now and he's one of them.

Don't see this trade happening though but nice idea.

I like McCallum a lot and think he has a bright future, but, if I can get Afllalo and the 12th pick, I'd be all over it. I'd be surprised if Orlando did this deal. My guess is that they would want McLemore, and frankly, I'd do that deal as well. I might regret it three years from now, but I'll worry about it then.

I'm a big Afflalo fan, but he's had such a weird career trajectory. He went from an excellent defender early in his career, to being pretty meh at it now. He didn't really have much of an offensive game either early in his career, but he's all of a sudden putting up good #1/#2 type option numbers now and one of the better offensive SG's out there nowadays.

As a side note, he'd be a good match with Ray McCallum. Afflalo is a really good shot creator/ball handler/passer. He's the type of SG you need with a player like a Ray McCallum/George Hill/Mario Chalmers. If you could convince IT to sign there, that might be a deal that'd help both teams out pretty darn well to balance the rosters. They need to stop screwing with Oladipo at PG, which I think hurt his development quite a bit last season. And he's there franchise player at this point

The best proposed deal from the many posters I've seen is JT and 8 for Afflalo and 12 (I think it's 12). The 8 pick is right at the cutoff line before the talent drops a notch in the draft. I wouldn't do the deal if Smart was on the board, but letting Ben play behind Afflalo would be great, and we still get a quality guy.....hopefully Payton. I don't think IT will be here. I could live with Ray Mac and Payton at the Pg spot, although not ideal with 2 young guys but it could work if the lineup has Cuz and Gay and Afflalo. The team would be better defensively.

I wonder what it would take to get Nelson in that deal as well?

#8 + JT + ? = #12 + Afflalo +Nelson

If we could grab Nelson, then him and Ray Mac cover the PG position, and Afflalo and McLemore cover the SG position. We could then use the #12 to grab a PG like Payton if he's the best guy on the board, a SF like McDermott or Hood if D-Will goes in the trade, or perhaps add some size and athleticism to the PF position with Payne.

I'd like to see us make a move to get Afflalo. And if we don't get Nelson, then adding Payton, Ennis or LaVine could give us a decent player to pair with Ray Mac. Like you say, they lack experience, but the team could always find a veteran PG to pick up on a cheap deal to help add experience.

IMHO, I think Zack LeVine will be an allstar or close to it in 3 or 4 years. His 1st year will be meh (a learning experience) maybe mostly in the D League, by his 2nd year a starter at PG, and by his 3rd year a real threat at both PG and SG. He's top 5 talent without the experience. I wouldn't mind us trading down (unless we could get Vonleh at 8), and pick up LeVine and Payne or Payton down a little bit. The "Free Agent" arena after the draft could fill in with an experienced SG (Morrow), and possibly a rim protector (?). There are so many possibilities of trading up or down in the draft, or have someone we really like fall to 8th, or trading the pick to land someone or someones, and even after the draft, the chance to fill in the blanks with free agency makes most of my scenarios just a waste of time. I'll comment more after the draft.

GO KINGS!!!!
