Arron Afflalo

I know he is restricted, but i think Afflalo is a perfect fit for our team. He plays solid D and can hit the 3 when needed. Jimmer and likely Isiah thomas are the only back up guards at the moment, unless you count Garcia and Salmons. I think Afflalo could play a nice role similar to Thabo Sefolosha on the Thunder. How expensive could he be?

ANDDD .... we're back to the Afflalo will save our franchise era.

answer: quite

and really with Reke, Thornton and Jimmer there would be no minutes for him. Or rather no minutes for somebody, maybe Jimmer.

You hit the nail on the head with Cisco/Salmons. Both guys are natural SGs really, so we may be able to keep only 4 pure guards on the roster, but have 6 guard depth. Reke/Jimmer/Isiah at PG and Thornton/Cisco/Salmons at SG.

Aaaaand we're back to people throwing out the old "Afflalo = Savior" strawman anytime somebody has the audacity to suggest he might be a useful role player for us.

I think that most everyone agrees that Afflalo could come in and help this team.
We'd have to make some roster moves to accomodate him, as we wouldn't have near enough playing-time to go around.

However, I don't think he's flying under the radar, and I actually expect him to get a contract larger than Barea's. So, while he could probably help this team, I don't believe that it would be cost-effective, unless we also managed to drop Cisco and/or Salmons.

I'm more than willing to see how the 3-guard rotation of Tyreke/Thorton/Jimmer do with Salmons providing more defense on the wings.

Every. Year. Every. Freaking. Year.

I just want to go one month- one freaking month- without hearing Afflalo's name come up.

I'm not saying this guy is going to "save our team" but i personally get chills when i think about jimmer and Isiah Thomas playing together in the back court. we will get points dropped on us all night long when our two back-up guards are on the floor together, without a doubt. i know a lot of people feel like our team is in place and we just have to let our young players grow into their roles, but i believe that even at our current roster's peak, we will still have horrendous defense issues, and i think we need to bring in some players to help with that at some point or another.

Why, preytell, do you think you'll see Jimmer and Thomas playing together in our backcourt? I'm not saying it couldn't happen, but first, Thomas has to make the team, and thats not a given. lets not forget where he was drafted. There's a good chance he could end up playing the entire year in the D-League, or even europe. But even if he does make the team, I expect he'll be waxing the end of the bench unless its a blowout, or all our options are in serious foul trouble.

I'm not saying this because I dislike Thomas. Quite the opposite, and frankly I was surprised he didn't go higher in a somewhat weak draft. But there's a reason he was the last pick in the draft, unless you want to believe that every NBA scout is an idiot. Personally I hope he makes the team. He's a fun player to watch, and will eventually be a fan favorite in the same vein as B Jax was. He's a tough, cocky little guy that doesn't lack for confidence. But to use the current flavor of the day, if I have to choose between someone like Afflalo and Thomas, then Thomas loses.

I entirely agree, which is part of my reasoning in believing that we need more guard depth. I think Thomas will make the team since the past few seasons Petrie has seemed to enjoy having some under 6 ft pg's, also we need guard depth, and he is the absolute cheapest player available. Tyreke is more than capable of playing solid D, Thornton's D is still a bit questionable, but he seems to be decent,we all know Jimmer is not a defender, and Isiah is simply just too small to make much of an impact on defense. So with that 3-4 guard roto, there is no shortage of offense, but i have little faith in that defense carrying us to the playoffs, w/or without a shot blocking big.
