Arco home sellout streak to end?

I have no stats on that, so I'm wondering if anyone else has an idea. Cheap tickets last year were impossible to find; I distinctly remember getting outbid on Ebay for a Portland game at over $30 per upper-level ticket. Last night I got two tickets to the Detroit game on Nov. 8 for $16.50 apiece. I was psyched, thinking I'd gotten away with a steal, but today a coworker said that there are still open seats for several coming regular season games. I thought about it and realized that last year there was no way I could've landed a ticket online vs. a high profile team for under $20, even over a week in advance.

Either Kings fans are just tired of the politics behind this organization at this point, or maybe just not as excited this year in general. Then again, maybe ticket sales will pick up. Thoughts?

This team just isn't going to sell-out I don't think. Not unless they do really well. And Kings fans are spoiled now. Its harder and harder to get them really going at a game. I don't think they will be happy just to go see a bad team anymore, like the early years. (Altho, some sell-outs at Arco were actually kind of fake, too.)

And I think the arena issue has also soured some fans, unfortunately. I think we are in danger of losing the distinction of being the best fans in the NBA, likely to Oklahoma City for the time being.

I think the term "sell out" refers to something else, other than every seat being filled. I remember hearing that people could go up and get tickets at the box office right before some games the last few years.

I don't think any NBA team truly sells out night in and night out. Even teams like the Spurs and Suns can't fill up the arena night in and night out.

Sellout refers to tickets sold and that is what the streak is based on.

The streak is 313 games dating back to Nov. 26, 1999.

There ways to fudge it, like the franchise buying tickets. But since all teams can play around with it a bit, its probably legitimate to say the Kings have "sold-out" for 313 games.

All these people that opted out of their season tix are a bunch of bandwaggon fans. The only way I would ever give my season tix up would be if I had to due to the fact that the Kings have moved to Anaheim.

While there is no doubt there are some bandwaggoners, there are probably even more who have simply been priced out of the ability to attend games in recent years.

I understand people that have been priced out in previous years, but the tickets did not go up in price this year, so that is not a viable excuse.

Well, I know some who endured the price increases in the past couple of years who could not find enough money to pay those prices again. Had nothing to do with the fact that this years prices stayed the same as last years.

Arco will always be sold-out just as long as the Kings are winning ball games however it might start to drop because we're in a process right now. though i will always go to games rather the Kings are struggling.

Man I miss selling out games. Ever since we got our new arena in Houston, we have the WORST attendence of a decent team. We get maybe 14000 a game if we're lucky and those that do come tend to be the corporate type that just sit there and drink beer with making a peep. Quietest arena you'll ever visit.

You guys are pretty damn lucky you get to sell out games and have large crowds.

I am attending college in Minnesota right now and the Timberwolvers have similar troubles as Houston. They definitely don't come close to selling out- granted the Wolves are the last choice behind the Vikings, Wild and probably even Golden Gopher football... but they have a nice facility in the heart of downtown that doesn't come close to selling out. I even remember when the Kings and Wolves were playing in the playoffs, the Wolves weren't selling out their playoff games as a first seed team while I was playing $200 a pair to sit on the TOP ROW of ARCO..

Yep, I'm a fan, whether they are up or down. Tho, I can only afford an occasional game.

Ditto.

I am lucky enough, on occasion, to be able to go to a game with my father-in-law, who gets suite tix from his work once in a blue moon. We usually go to about 1-2 games per year (buying tix ourselves, not in the suite), and went to two Monarchs games last year as well.

Sell outs are not 100% sale of all tickets but some number above 95% or 97% I think. Also all StubHub tickets for Kings games are already purchased by others who are selling them.

And for those of you too young to remember, the Kings sold out for years in the mid 90's when they were terrible for some 10 years in a row.

what? why would we stop selling out now, that makes no sesne, we were selling out all last year, and we have close to the same team now, sacto didnt just give berth to fun activites

how are some of them fake, oklahoma city can never love a stepchild as much as sacto can love their own blood

The actual streak most likely ended some time ago. If you've been in Arco in the past year, you've seen the empty seats some nights that aren't just the usual "somebody got sick and missed the game" happenings.

Right now, with the media continually harping about the possibility of the Kings leaving, I know of several situations where people just aren't going to commit to supporting a team that, in their minds, might not be here in a couple of years.

It's one thing to pay premium prices to see an elite team with potential to go deep into the playoffs. It's another thing all together to be expected to pony up big bucks for a team that has seemed to take one step forward and two steps back...

Hopefully, Kevin Martin and Ron Artest, along with a leaner, meaner Bibby, will get the enthusiasm levels back up to a point where there won't be any talk of the streak ending.

When the Kings are playing in Anaheim next year, how many regular seaon games will sell out? With the way fans are in the Anaheim area, I say all 41 sell out.

Keep in mind that this is all speculation... There is no evidence, other than some empty seats, to support some of our feelings about a little fudging on the numbers once or twice.

It is not meant in any way to suggest anything else.

If the Kings play in Anaheim next season they'll sell out maybe 5 games. SoCal sux.

They'll get a honeymoon period where they start selling out but yes eventually it won't sustain itself. Multi-sport cities don't sell out basketball games unless the team previously went really far into the playoffs.

If there are tickets available right before game time all the Maloofs have to do is have the rest of the open seats purchased by them. The money goes back to them, so it costs them nothing. Then you have a sell out. So, if the streak is important that's all they have to have done right before each game.

You could even create a program to run that process automatically 1 minute before game time or something.

"Fake" in the sense explained above. The franchise buys back tickets.

Well, Rochester, Cincinnati, Kansas City, KC/Omaha all had the franchise before us. Its not like the Kings were born here. We adopted them and OK City would be thrilled to take over.

^ i agree. so cal doesnt need 3 teams, i really dont think thats where theyll take the team if it leaves, and i hope they dont leave

i didnt realize what u meant by fake, but ya that does maje sense now that i see what u meant..but kings have been in sacto i think like 21 years or something, okalmohma is only borrowing new orleans, half the teams in the league started somewhere else, plus the kings have had there best years here, (unless u count winning the nbl chapionship and the stuff they did in the 40's)
