Don't Make Me Use The Bat

I think more notably, the people enjoying life while the asteroid approaches in this case serve a useful function. Sacramento may have already lost their basketball team. They have certainly done everything possible to drive them away. But neither you, I , nor anybody knows the Maloofs' thoughts on all this. As emotional types, with connections with local business leaders, season ticket holders etc. they may well be sentimental despite all the venom from the antis. And so what I realize is that at this point, having destroyed any business reason for the Kings to stay, the single greatest inducement for the Kings to stay past this year would be if people were enthusiastic again, filled the old building, and earned the Maloofs a tidy profit. Which is ironic because that same self absorbed line of thought (the Maloofs would never leave because we are the bestest fans ever!) was one of the factors that led Sacto down its path of self-destruction, but now its a last stand. If the fans reacted like those in Seattle did, the building was empty and depressed and defeated, I would almost absolutely guarantee the Kings are gone. So let's have some enthusiasm, even if its for the last time. Maybe it will even buy the city a year or two it doesn't deserve to try to cobble something together. Or not. But there is little else to do.

That's what I want. If the team is going to leave, I want to be able to hear real Arco thunder come back to that arena. I want to feel that kind of excitement, joy and passion in a building that's rocking, with a sound so loud, you can't hear someone talking right in your ear and the sound becomes a physical wave that pushes at you. I want the Kings to know how much the fans love them. That if it was in our power, we'd never let them leave.
