I was expecting something to happen yesterday or today (like PDA hopefully being fired or demoted) .. but there hasn't even been smoke as of late. Any news out there for those of you in Sacramento?
No answers for you. But more questions.
Who is higher in the FO organization, Divak or PDA?
On the Kings org chart is Divak on the business side or the basketball side or both? Remember, on the day Divak's hire was announced he was seen having lunch with Granger and business folks not basketball folks.
Do both positions report to President Granger?
Will Divak continue to sit next to Rranadive at home games?
Anyone heard from PDA since he told Voison he had no comment about Mullin's departure?
Any word about Bratz lately? Is his word treasured by basketball folks in the organization? Any relationship between he and Divak?
Any word about Divak in the last few days?
Appreciate any info, speculation, rumor, WAG, whatever you 've got.
Why were you expecting something yesterday or today?
I am not aware of any real smoke. I'm not sure that the timing for a move would make much sense right now. (OK, the Malone timing made no sense either, but bear with me.) It's possible, even likely, that PDA is on the hot seat. But why now? After the Malone firing you could see it, if Vivek wasn't on board. Once the season was obviously dedicated to tanking under Corbin you could see it, again if Vivek wasn't on board. After the Karl hire wouldn't make much sense, if only for the fact that we brought in a good coach. The point being, the only thing that has hapened recently that might remotely increase the pressure on PDA is the hiring of Vlade. Maybe Vivek is considering having Vlade take over as GM.
But now? Now would be a very bad time. We're going into a pretty crucial offseason. We're most likely going to have a top-ten pick in a draft that is significantly deeper than last year's where we can expect to find a player who will be more important to our franchise's future than Sauce. Furthermore, with Karl on board and Cousins in beast mode and Gay looking like he's buying in, this is likely our last pick for two years (conveying next year to Chicago) and our last lottery pick for hopefully five decadesD). We're going to have a small amount of cap space that we're going to want to spend as wisely as possible while keeping an eye to the massive salary cap jump one year from now. PDA will have spent significant time this year worrying about just these things - he'll know the draft class inside and out, he'll have been in contact with agents around the league, he'll have been running scenarios and contingency plans on various roster moves...needless to say, he'll have been doing a lot of prep for this offseason - the one that we really hope is going to turn us into a playoff team next year. Vlade hasn't been in organized basketball for quite some time, and he's never been in a front office. Taking all of our meticulous planning and throwing it out the window to install someone with no prior experience and asking them to do our draft in two months and then navigate the free agent waters? That sounds like a true recipe for disaster.
PDA should be given the opportunity to fix this team this offseason. He's the guy who is prepared to do it. You can expect - even demand - success because he is in the position to actually succeed. If he screws it up, then he's out the door. I don't think even his strongest supporters can argue with that. But replacing him with someone who is decidedly not ready to succeed (like Vlade, much as I respect him) is like rolling the dice and hoping for snake eyes, high-stakes gambling on the season that is supposed to put us onto the winning side of the ledger, hopefully the playoffs, and on an upward trajectory towards a championship right as we move into our new arena.
So is PDA on the hot seat? Probably. But by all rights, he ought to be given the chance to get it right this offseason. He's got a better shot at it than anybody else at this point.
i think this is a fair assessment. i'm not aware of any real smoke, either. i've found the whispers of PDA's imminent ouster to be rather curious, because my assumption was that a karl/d'alessandro pairing would function effectively, given their familiarity with one another from their respective nuggets tenures, and their similar philosophies regarding the pace at which this team should play. i may not be a fan of the shared philosophy between them, but the kings stand a much better chance of achieving sustainable success if the owner, gm, and head coach are aligned in their vision. george karl is the head coach for the foreseeable future, and he prefers to play an up-tempo style, which suits vivek's whims and fits d'alessandro's preferences. i think mike malone had the right idea, but if he was always going to be butting heads with the kings' brass, then it was always going to be destined for failure...
While that's a fair comment, I also think Mike Malone's inability to draw up effective offensive schemes was also a real problem for the team, not the front office.
i'd say that's overly generous to the front office. offensive schemes are only as good as the players' ability to execute them. would you say that this team is chock full of steady playmakers and clutch talents? hell, the kings whiffed on a few of the final plays in last night's game against the rockets. will we damn george karl for his "inability to draw up effective offensive schemes," too? or will we recognize that this team needs a few veteran two-way players who are better equipped to execute in important moments than some within the existing roster?

pshn80 - I know you didn't just mean to quote me without comment. Is the board malfunctioning?
Yes, on several levels. It seems like I have spent an unsuccessful 45 minutes In the process.
It all starts when I push the button "reply". The pop up rely box comes up at the bottom as usual but too frequently there is a double header line instead of the usual single header line. I haven't figured out how to correct that (if you can tell me I would much appreciate that) so I stumble forward, put my message in and fiddle around and sometimes it works and often it doesn't.
I really thank you for noticing and asking. Appreciate any help I can get. When computers first came out they were made for people under 50. I as over that.
Thought I saw Dave put something on Twitter expect something big this Wed or Thursday, but to be honest I haven't been checking in too frequently work is busy. I def could be wrong and it may be related to something entirely else (like Mullin leaving). Why were you expecting something yesterday or today?

Since I have only one header line I will try again to post my response/question for you, VF21.
What is the source or sources of your understanding that PDA reports to Divak, and secondly, for your understanding that Divak reports to Ranadive?
I think it might be interesting to note that PDA has reportedly been in Europe. Scouting for the draft? Vacation? Something else? Nobody has said that I've seen, but the answer to that question alone might be a hint about any upcoming changes...
