And "The Narrative" has changed

I'm not sure exactly what that's supposed to mean though. Is winning a byproduct of more high fives or are more high fives a byproduct of winning?

I'd go with the latter. I'd also say this branches off to chemistry, and while some will argue good chemistry and guys getting along is important to winning, it's damn hard to have good chemistry if you're not winning. High fives, feeling good, getting along, positive chemistry are generally a result of having talent and winning with that talent, or at least accomplishing goals.

Winning is a by product of positive reinforcement from your peers.

Man, nobody feeling The Starters? I like that show.

agreed. I've liked that group of guys since back when they were doing podcasts in Canada[/hipster]. they tend to be fairly well-informed and objective about most things, especially considering that they cover the whole league. I still like them better as a podcast, but they've been improving on the TV show aspects as well.

Matt Moore seems to have really jumped on the bandwagon.

Last night was a perfect "We played well, we're at home, we don't have to try hard" game for the Kings. Could have bailed on effort.

And instead the Kings just ROCKED Denver. I'm pretty impressed with that.

Surprisingly fun teams early: Sixers, Magic, Jazz. Surprisingly good teams early: Kings.

Matt Moore has been great, IIRC he was one of the first national guys on basketball twitter to become a fan of Boogie.

just logged into twitter, and the first tweet i see is from a kf.com favorite:

Zach Lowe @ZachLowe_NBA · 2m2 minutes ago
Watching Kings-Nuggets. I'm scared of Boogie just watching through my laptop. He was like a movie monster destroying a city.

This doesn't mean he gets to act like he knew this was coming. I appreciate the respect he's giving now when there's no other choice, but he also went to great lengths to explain what a mistake it was to sign him. That was a whole year ago.

and i don't think he will. like a lotta smart basketball minds, lowe doesn't enjoy being wrong. that said, most of the talking heads were wrong about demarcus. lowe's not about to pretend as if he knew better, but he certainly won't delay much longer in hopping on the boogie bandwagon (while it's still timely to do so)...

i think we should just turn this thread into the good press thread (as long as the kings continue to play well enough to earn such press, that is):

Grantland said:
For those of you still sitting, I ask that you stand and join me in making a joyful noise. Repeat after me … Hallelujah, Boogie is here.

There’s been a grassroots movement over the past few years, filled with those who believe in the greater power of Boogie Cousins. They believe that his abilities overshadow his circumstances. They believe that the self-defeating parts of his attitude will one day be stripped away, and all that will be left is his game. They believe that, in time, his name will be known and his power will be feared by all.

It appears that the day of Boogie is now upon us.

Perhaps I’m overreacting a bit? Can you blame me?

For those of us who have been patiently defending Cousins over the years, we can’t help but revel in this moment — we must savor it. That’s why I’m proud to present to you the next paragraph …

Last night the Kings wrecked the Nuggets, 131-109, and improved to 4-1. Cousins led the way with 30 points on 10-of-14 shooting (10-of-11 from the line) and 11 boards. Want to hear something crazy? Boogie did all of that in 22 minutes. Want to hear something even crazier? Of the 18 players averaging more than 21 ppg, Boogie is the only one doing it while averaging less than 30 minutes a game. You read that right … BOOGIE AVERAGES 24 POINTS … IN 29 MINUTES … PER GAME … MY GOD.

Oh yeah.

The NBA After Dark podcast on Grantland went pretty nuts over Boogie and the Kings. Andrew Sharp has long been the only real Cousins fan on Grantland, so it doesn't surprise me.

Bill Simmons has long been a Boogie fan in the only way Bill Simmons can be a fan of anything, really. ("Trade him to the Celtics!")

still a little more:

Warning Though: bit of a disturbing watch as you have to let go of a little of your contempt for Ric Bucher.

It's nice to get some recognition, but there's still so much media "narrative" swirling around Cousins that just reeks of "I made this up but I had to say something to pretend I've been paying attention". For a specific example, Aldridge comes out and says that Ranadive embraced Cousins first thing whereas the previous regime didn't think much of him. Really? Does Aldridge forget that Petrie straight up fired his bestie Paul Westphal because Cousins didn't get along with him? That's "not thinking much" of your player?

Seriously.

In Aldridge's defense, the Maloofs left Boogie out to dry quite often. Organizations know when they have a very talented guy that will cause flare ups, and the good organizations surround that guy with handlers and protect the youth from bad attention. I never got the sense that the Kings did that. They let Cousins take all the heat. Hell, I think Westphal was fired for going to the press before clearing it through the organization. Oh, and also for just being a terrible coach that guys like Landry and Dalembert did not like either.

I'll be interested in hearing what the "narrative" sounds like, should we lose to Memphis? I'm already hearing the rhetoric from the heads on ESPN Radio, talking about how they "still don't trust" Cousins, and how, as soon as the Kings experience some adversity, the "real" DeMarcus Cousins is going to come out... If this two-game losing streak turns into a four or five-game losing streak, how many more people are going to pat themselves on the back, like Kendrick Perkins, and say, "Yup! Same old Kings"?
