Amick: De’Aaron Fox requests trade

Windy negotiating for the Spurs

“maybe they’d trade Castle for SGA”

MAYBE???
The Kings sure as hell aren’t doing a one for one Fox for Castle swap lol
Spurs trying to pump up Steph Castle like he's the next Steph Curry. They think maybe they can trick the Kings into trading Fox straight up for Castle.

Also here we ****ing go with more Kings slander. All of a sudden Stephon Castle is a blue-chip, cant miss prospect when he'd be the main piece in the deal. And they couldn't possibly part ways with him.

Has Castle made any real noise this year? Stats wise, hes been fine for a young rookie, but nothing that just jumps out at you as the next big thing
In time I think Castle may end up being the best rookie to emerge from this class. But this is also a historically bad rookie class.

San Antonio fans are convinced that he's a future star, but I see the same player I saw pre-draft - not really an on the ball guard, certainly not a PG, but a very good defender with length and athleticism who has a chance to be excellent on that end of the floor, and who makes winning plays on offense as a secondary creator, cutter etc but whose future is still very dependent on developing a reliable jumper.

Which is fine, but the point is when a Fox level talent is available, Castle certainly hasn't been someone you make untouchable for him. The equivalent of this is like Devin Carter+Keegan Murray+3 FRP for Franz Wagner because Franz only wanted to play for the Kings, but he's not a FA for another 2 years. As much as we'd hate to lose Keegan, the answer is of course you make that deal because Franz level players don't hit the trade market very often.

The Kings are known to covet the Spurs rookie guard who was taken fourth overall out of Connecticut in the NBA Draft last June, but there is serious skepticism in league circles that San Antonio will be willing to include him. If that’s ultimately the case, the Kings would have to determine whether there’s an acceptable pathway to doing the deal without him. That’s not the end of San Antonio’s considerations, either.
As the Kings front office continues to canvass the league for solutions to their uncertain future, with known involvement in several situations beyond Fox, this much is clear: They do not see Jimmy Butler as the answer. Per league sources, the Kings are not pursuing the disgruntled Miami star who is serving an indefinite suspension while Heat officials attempt to trade him.

Beyond the Spurs, who have the luxury of operating with the knowledge that Fox is likely to sign an extension if he comes their way, the Kings’ attention has no doubt turned to teams that must view Fox as a rental. The question there, it seems, is whether the Kings are motivated enough to truly consider offers that would likely be far less attractive than the Spurs’ because of the risk factor involved for teams that roll the dice. The mood of the team could certainly play a part here, as league sources close to several Kings players expressed frustration that this situation has become such an ill-timed distraction.
it’s affecting the players too

Given their track record the Spurs are probably banking on their player development system but that really hasn’t bore too much fruit of late.
They can get cute and withhold 2 draft picks (if we are saying 5 plus salary to start) but let's be real here he is anything but a sure thing and nowhere close to the top rookie in the class at the midseason.

If half the teams have inquired at least one has to be delulu enough to think they can get him to sign an extension and offer us something dumb. That's all it should take to get the godfather offer from San Antonio unless they just aren't even into him.
If Monty plays hardball, and Fox INSISTS on going to the Spurs, Fox will pressure the Spurs to get the deal done even at high cost. All Monty needs is one or two other suitors.

So you’re saying we say f*** it and at the deadline, we make the following trade…

Kevin Huerter
Trey Lyles
Pick(s)

for

Cam Johnson
Day’Ron Sharpe

…and then during the 2025 off-season, we make the following trade…

DeMar DeRozan
Malik Monk
Pick(s)

for

Lauri Markkanen

…and move forward with a rotation of…

PG - Fox / Carter
SG - Ellis / Jones
SF - Murray / Johnson
PF - Markkanen
C - Sabonis / Sharpe

…that’s what you’re saying, right? ;)

EDIT: In all seriousness, that rotation is actually really really good and very complementary

We're talking about Stephon Castle as the hangup for the Spurs here. like what are we even doing? We should punt him over to anyone with a serious offer, preferably in a high tax, frigid state. What can Toronto offer?

Scottie Barnes would certainly solve our wing size issues.
Scottie Barnes, Olynik, filler + TOR 25 and 27, best pick they have in 26 (TOR/IND).

They took one season of Kawhi and got nothing in return, have to imagine they'd get Fox to sign the extension and be able to trade him to San Antonio since dude is not giving up a dime, apparently.
