From New York:

-The girl who snuck to New York against her dad's will and was obviously so torn was completly touching...That was powerful stuff right there...She wasn't the best, but I was happy she went on.

-The guy who was adopted by a Bolivian family, I believe, was absolutly fantastic...And there is no way he was 16! That guy looked to be young 20s at least!

-The untrained friend was definatly better...And the trained one reminded me of Paris Hilton combined with Nicole Richie...Terrible combo...But the other one was good.

-The flamboyant guy (audition number 1) was hilarious...As was the person who..."Sung" Lady Marmalade...She was enjoying herself a bit to much.

Probably some other stuff thats slipping my mind right now...

Can';t wait for next week!
That's the guy I was talking about. He definitely looks good. There was just something about him. He;s definitely easy on the eyes. ;)

I just want to add, the girl who got dramatic, I mean REALLY dramatic, seemed fake to me. I mean, it's like she already practiced her speech 100 times in the mirror! After all the hoopla, she finally says "Thank you for the opportunity" (or somthing like that). You think she'd stop the drama at that point, but nooooo.. She kept on going.

Well it is made for TV drama... just staged reality stuff, the story may have been true but she got through to the final 3 judges because of that story, well her voice did help haha... She had that tone I absolutely love for female artists.

^^ lol thanks

He was like "This is chinchilla (sp?). It's to show that I got the money" blah3. whatever it was that he was saying. He also looks like the guy from Surprise by Design.

Oh, anyone remember the guy with the girl's range? He sang a Kelly Clarkson song. That was funny!

#35
Thanks. At first I thought her story was fake, but AI producers found the way to spin it around :)

I really have better stuff to do tonight, but I like to procrastinate.

She is 19. Lives in Pennsylvania now. Skipping school story is fake since she is not in school now (plus even if she was the audition was on August 14th - not many colleges start that early). Her father didn't want her to audition because she has already tried to audition in Chicago and Cleveland in the past and didn't get through.

Benard was totaly staged. Considering he was on that dance show and now this. Why would they even give him a chance?

While its entertaining to see these freaks up there, I must say it has to suck for those that actually are good and get turned down because of the Bernards of the world.

Did anybody see the Panther Guy on last night. OMG!!!!!! That had me crying and sick.
Yeah... I can't even believe I am watching this show as I haven't been able to stomach it since the first season. But Panther dude ruled. I loved his half real half painted on mustache/vandyke combo. I think I even had dreams last night where people were doing the panther slash as a regular form of communication.

I was really touched by the 68-year-old guy who gathered signatures on a petition so he could sing a song in memory of his wife who died two days before the audition.

As far as Panther Guy goes, he's just bizarre.

There are some good singers in there, at least potentially. And a couple of ones I think are just there so Simon has someone to pick on...

I was touched by that too. I honestly wish they would do away with the age limits, its the main reason I can't stand AI anymore. In the end the teenybopper vote will still probably win out since those are the people who vote 100 times instead of once. But throw us 30+ folks a bone once in a while. Not to mention grown ups can probably take being humiliated by Simon a lot better than 17 year olds.

And we'll still have to live through the idiots who vote for someone really bad, much like Chicken Little...

I do understand the concept of an age limit, however. Their target demographic would take a huge hit if they turned in to seeing a bunch of "antique citizens" every week.

Yeah but just 1 or 2 out of the 20 or 24 or however many they have when they start voting. I bet they'd be worried about getting another Taylor though. They don't have any clue what to do with someone who already has their own thing going, they want something they can mold from day one. I think Kelly Clarkson was the most mature of any of the finalists until Taylor and she's really the only one that has shown she can evolve past a one or two hit wonder.

I guess Clay is still doing alright but he didn't win.

I watched last night... I guess this is what married life has in store for me

I was a little bothered that they promised the best of the best and we still got at least 60% the worst of the worst.

Wow they passed a lot of people that can't hit a note to save their lives, especially on the female side. The last two cuts had me scratching my head a bit too.

I like Chris too. I do not think he has a snowball's chance though... but could easily see him around top 5-6. Maybe even a little higher since he has a good personality.

Did not like that particular song you linked to. I don't think a "christian rocker" will ever win it, but a "rocker who is christian" can't be too far away. Although imho nobody can enter AI and legitimately call themselves a "rocker". Its a pop singing contest.

#49
I like Melinda Doolittle (she's the shy backup singer) and Lakisha Jones, the single mother who sang an Aretha Franklin song. I can see both of these being the top 5.

I do like Chris too, however, I only seeing him rate in the top 10.

I guess I will be the first to start the critique of this year's idol contestants. Last night was the Guys. As a group, this could be the worst group of guys in the show's history. Out of the 12 maybe two or three are even worthy to be considered. To me a good portion of them are extremely feminine. Very Broadway and Showtunish. Anyway here it goes.

TOP FOUR THAT SHOULD GO ON TO FINALS

1. Phil Stacey - He was the last singer of the night, and they clearly saved the best for last. Once Phil gets the nerves out, he will go pretty far. He is a little different (bald head, family), but most of all he has a mature voice that projects and stands out.

2. Jared Cotter - Another mature voice, and very confident about his act. Nice looking guy, that actually acts like a guy. I hope he doesn't fall into the Brian mcKnight "trap" because that will get old real quick. But the guy can sing.

3. Chris Sligh - He does not have the image, but he has the talent and the personality. He can be one of the best in the group man or woman. The best part about him is it seems he has room to grow, which could be danger to the other contestants.

4. Nick Pedro - I don't know the song he sang, but he sang it very well.

NEXT FOUR THAT HAVE WORK TO DO

Blake Lewis - "The Beat Boxer". I have not seen enough of him yet. I hope he does not fall into the beat box trap where he feels he has to to it with every song. Last night he resisted the temptation. But has potential.

Paul Kim - Careless Whisper is one of my favorite songs. This guy has a mountain to climb though. The whole bare feet thang can be overcome, but right or wrong he has stereotypes to overcome especially in some parts of the country. He will not win, but if he can find himself and stick with it, he can get to the finals.

A.J. Tabaldo - He sang another one of my favorites Luther Vandross' Never Too Much. But he needs to show some originallity. Like Simon said, he has seen that song sung like that before. One of the feminine guys I was speaking of. He will not make it out of this round.

Brandon Rodgers - "The Career Background Singer". he was rather boring, and it s clear that after one night, he is not ready to go up to the front. But he has two weeks left to convince me.

BOTTOM FOUR, IT IS TIME TO GO HOME

Rudy Cardinas - He sang "Free Ride". I will be giving him a free ride back to where he came from. he was terrible.

Sundance Head - This guy should not even have gotten this far. He was terrible in Hollywood, and he knows it. He was the last one to make it over another guy who I thought should be in this group. he is clearly not ready for the spot light.

Chris Richardson - He is so forgettable, that I forgot his performance last night. Oh Yeah, he is the Justin Timberlake wannabe. Has some talent, liked the song, but not enough room for two JT's, Time to go.

And lastly.....

Sanjay Malakar - He is way too young and inmature for this. He can sing. He too sang one of my favorite songs Stevie Wonder's Something About Your Love. But just him saying that he got his GED so that he never has to go to High School shows me that he is clearly rushing this process. He has to find some soul and energy to go along with his voice. Plus he is way to feminine for me. HE NEEDS TO MAN UP.

GOING HOME THIS WEEK PREDICTION...... Sanjay and Sundance.

On to the ladies.....man I hope it is better than last night;)

Good Post Purple. I, too, thought last night's performance with the guys was pretty boring. Also, I agree with you about some of the guys being extremely feminine. I'm glad I wasn't the only one thinking this.

I thought Phil Stacey did pretty good. The sang he sang kind of started off bad, but he really picked it up at the end. He can sing.

I really like Jared. I thought he did really good but it seemed like the judges didn't care for it, but it was just alright to them.

I really didn't care for the song that Chris Sligh chose.

Nick Pedro was ok. I think he can do better. He is kinda cute.

As far as the rest....I'm not really that impressed.

Looking forward to tonight's show. I would really like to see how Melody and Lakisha do. I think they both can really sing.

The sun needs to set on Sundance ... the sooner the better. And when it does, they need to shuffle Chris R. and Sanjaya out at the same time. I'm not convinced Rudy needs to leave quite yet; I think he has some potential. Here's how I ranked them last night (in order of performance, 1 being the lowest and 5 being the highest):

Rudy...........3
Brandon.......4
Sundance.....1
Paul............3
Chris R........ 2
Nick............3
Blake..........3
Sanjaya......2
Chris S........4
Jared..........4
A.J.............3
Phil............5

What a complete let down it was last night. The guys leave a lot to be desired with a few exceptions.

Phil Stacey-What a voice. Once he shook the nerves away his voice shown through. It is strong and powerful. It has a great tone to it. He has a nice presence on stage and is a good looking kid.

Blake Lewis-He can sing. He can really sing. What a nice young man as well. He is also comfortable on stage and it shows.

Chris Sligh-Not the most easy man to watch perform, but he can perform. Has a nice voice and a wonderful personality.

Honorable Mentions-Rudy and Jared.

The rest are completely forgettable. They all have these small, little voices that sound exactly the same. AJ, Nick, Paul, Chris R. Sanjay and Brandon have nothing special about them. They all sound like karaoke, amateur voices to me.

Sundance-What happned to that guy. He COULD go far if went back to the bluesy style we fell in love with.

FYI - Threads like this are for people who are watching the show. If you've already decided you aren't going to watch, then why not just leave it for those of us who do?

Simon and Seacrest Act Like Two Little Girls

Seacrest and Cowell Get Nasty on 'Idol'

Ryan Seacrest and Simon Cowell Needle Each Other During Squabble on Fox's `American Idol'

The Associated Press

NEW YORK - If we learned anything from Tuesday's installment of "American Idol," it's that Ryan Seacrest and Simon Cowell still get on each other's nerves. A lot.

Seacrest went off on Cowell on the Fox network's singing competition after the acerbic judge called him "sweetheart."

"Don't call me sweetheart. ... We don't have that kind of relationship," Seacrest said. "I don't want that kind of relationship."

"I don't want that kind of relationship," repeated Cowell, to which Seacrest replied: "Exactly. We'll just work together, that's fine with me."

Later in the two-hour broadcast, Seacrest continued to needle Cowell, who was harshly grading the 12 male singers vying to win the "Idol" title and a record contract.

"Why are you being so negative tonight? I mean, you've been very, very negative," Seacrest said.

"I'm not being negative," Cowell replied. "Unlike you, I actually respect the audience at home and I don't and I don't believe in lying to them."

That didn't appear to go over well with Seacrest, who closed the sing-off by thanking Randy Jackson, Paula Abdul and the band but not Cowell.

The little tiff between Ryan and Simon was totally ridiculous. Ryan blew that way out of proportion. It was idiotic. It was Ryan trying to start in on Simon earlier to boost ratings.

Personally I liked the Il Divo and Telletubbies dig that Chris Sligh got in there.
Now that was funny.
