Official American Idol Thread

Five Days until the madness begins. I know for the first three or four weeks we have to be subjected to the "15 Minutes of Fame" group and the city auditions. But I am anticipating to see who will join the ranks of Kelly Clarkston, Ruben Studdard, Clay Aiken, Fantasia, Jennifer Hudson, Carrie Underwood and Taylor Hicks.

If you have not seen Dreamgirls, go see it. Jennifer Hudson's act alone is worth the $10 bucks.

Part of Purple Reign's post:

I'm more interested in who will be the next William Hung or that trash-talking potty-mouth street ho from last season! :)

I am getting very excited. I love American Idol. My manager and I take notes each show on each performance once it gets to the final 12 and we come in the next day and compare. We have a special file at work just for American Idol notes. Interesting to see the different takes. My notes are always very technical and performance driven. I am a professional singer myself so I tend to be picky. Everyone tells me I should go on AI but I must then tell them I am too old. 35 is too old now. Oh well!! When they make elderly idol I will go.

I hate the first few weeks of auditions. It is so made for TV it hurts. They should just do one highlight show of the best and worst and start with the final 12 or however many this season. But still, I will be glued to the set, pen and paper in hand ready to take notes.

Ouch!

I used to get mad at Simon for some of his comments; now I have to wonder if some people are just delusional to the point where they cannot even function...

Wow. The fact that some of those people's families actually encouraged them to try out scares me. If they lie to them about their "talent," what else are they being dishonest about?

I just heard Melinda sing and all I can say is WOW. She was the one that just sang the Stevie Wonder song. And we all know that Stevie's songs are pretty hard to sing.

Im so mad...I have school from 7-10 tommorrow so Im gonna miss New York!

And I think I found my guy this year...Beard man who looked like either "Fidel or Sadaam or a homeless bum" really impressed me...He wasn't out and out great, but something about him really clicked in my brain.

Some of those people really scared me ... and the previews of New York look even weirder.

Yea, I agree, some of those people were scary. However, Melinda (the backup singer) really did a great job.

I saw the previews for tomorrow. Please tell me if the guy with the dark brown shirt and dark hair sings good. I won't be able to see the show tomorrow as I will be at the Kings game.

I think this has to be one of the best Idol openers ever! Even better than "She bangs, she bangs!!".

The Mom/Daughter combo from Seattle... The "I love Elvis" from last night... The "Oops watch your shirt - or what's left of it" from last night... and who was that guy that Simon said "I didn't understand a word of that!". That was the most bizarre display of singing I think I have ever heard. The most strange part of it, was that kid was actually in tune! All I know is I got a cramp in my stomach from laughing so hard.

I'm with you VF, how can the people who are supposed to love you and protect you allow you to go on National TV and make a complete *** of yourself?

I don't normally watch but my fiancee made me tivo last night. There was a guy who could actually sing but they were not interested because it was pretty paint by the numbers. But what struck me was how the guy took it all in stride as opposed to the people that can't come anywhere near hitting a single note who freak out and drop f-bombs and birds all over Simon or whoever... as if Simon said they were any good they wouldn't think he was a musical genius.

Looks like your got buried before people could get it up and running.

And I had to break out the old VCR and record the show last night, so I get to watch it tonight after my eye exam.

Is New York gonna be as bad as I hope it is?

That guy Ian Bernardo who kept on insisting that he's a superstar was so annoying.

The 2 bestfriends situation is interesting. One girl was trained while the other wasn't and the untrained one kept on saying the trained one is better than her. But when they both auditioned, the untrained one was better. :)

One more thing, the adopted guy looked good! I wasn't in love with his voice but he looked good. Very charming, too.

And uh, funny how they kept saying they were in NY. That was either at continental airlines arena (home of the New Jersey Nets/Devils) or Giants Stadium. Both sitting side by side at East Rutherford New Jersey!

I wish they would try to squeeze in all the auditions that make to next round, but know bad auditions=ratings.

THe girl who tried convince them that she doesn't have to be able to sing to be next AI was one of the most psycho auditions they have shown.

The untrained girl sang one of my favorite songs of all time, Free by Deniece Williams. She wasn't as soulful as "Niecy" but she sang it very well, I was very surprised.

Did they ever say what arena they were in? I must of missed it.

^^ They never said what arena they were in because they wanted us to believe they were in NY. ;)

I know for sure that (the area) was where Continental Airlines arena and Giants Stadium stand because I used to go there once a week (there's a flea market in the parking lot every saturday). My mom also heard on radio that they were at Continental Airlines Arena.

Can't blame them for insisting they're at NY, though. Sounds juicier than NJ.

yup the untrained girl was way better and... you could see the snottyness (is that a word) of the trained girl. The untrained one will make it past hollywood I think.

The other good one last night was the guy with a shaved head, very good voice but the name slips me.

I think the judges audition and inital "arena" pre screening auditions are not held at the same place.

I know last year the crowd scenes in Chicago were at Soldier Field, but judges auditions were at a hotel.

Only a small fraction of people that show up go infront of judges.

Okay, after last night and the girl in the brown, I will never criticize Simon for anything he says or does again. He was incredibly kinder than I would have been...

Ahhh. I didn't know that. Still, though, pretty funny when at the start of the program they all shouted "Welcome to New York!" (or something like that, when they were clearly in the parking lot at the Meadowlands. ;)

I guess the judges could have been at a New York hotel? Doubt it, but who knows? They even show shots of the judges coming in from the underground parking lot. I was just laughing everytime they said they were in New York when they were really in NJ :p

Anyway, VF, are you talking about the last girl to audition? Was she the one who said sometimes she gets arrested when she performs in public? The one who started "'singing" Lady Marmalade?

That girl was just terrible. I mean, I don't know what to say. After seeing that, I was like "what the heck was that?!"

From New York:

-The girl who snuck to New York against her dad's will and was obviously so torn was completly touching...That was powerful stuff right there...She wasn't the best, but I was happy she went on.

-The guy who was adopted by a Bolivian family, I believe, was absolutly fantastic...And there is no way he was 16! That guy looked to be young 20s at least!

-The untrained friend was definatly better...And the trained one reminded me of Paris Hilton combined with Nicole Richie...Terrible combo...But the other one was good.

-The flamboyant guy (audition number 1) was hilarious...As was the person who..."Sung" Lady Marmalade...She was enjoying herself a bit to much.

Probably some other stuff thats slipping my mind right now...

Can';t wait for next week!
