All-Star weekend observations

Don't get me wrong, I'd trade Kevin too. But in my fantasy trade, I had already traded the rest of the team away... We need to keep someone to pass the ball into Dwight, so I kept Kevin. Because Dwight can't just walk the ball in. It's against the rules. Just ask Lamar Odom.

I'll say that I disagree strongly, and just leave it at that. I love everything about All-Star weekend, from the celebrity game, to the D-League game, to the televised practices, to the Shooting Star, to the Main Event itself. It's like a holiday to me.
Same here. I enjoyed Wade's skill challenge run and seeing Jason Kidd's mustached child as much as I enjoyed Howard's Superman performance.

and Slim is still at 6000

So I'm guessing the Superman shirt was really a leotard

I still say the skills competition would be better if they had Kwame, Desagna Diop, Jerome James, and Mikki Moore.

Peja really let me down tonight

Peja isn't the same as he was before all the back problems. You have to remember that he's been playing professionally since he was about 15. That's a very long time for any basketball player. He's still good but not the player who could take your breath away. And I think bottom line is he's just tired - I feel sorry for the Hornets fans who are going to watch him decline even more before his contract is up in four more years.

i still think he is the best shooter in the game. I dont care if kapono had 25 or not. But the bottom line is kapono won and not peja.

Chris Paul broke a Guinness World Record at All Star practice and hit 4 half court shots in a minute time frame. I caught part of it when flipping through channels but just thought they were messing around at the time.

He beat out LeBron, Kidd, Wade, Joe Johnson, Ray Allen, Billups, Duncan, Amare, Iverson and Nash.

It wasn't the entire practice of course. It was just a clip, it didn't look that interesting at the time so I didn't take notice on what was going on.

Is this really considered a dunk?

While it was great showmanship he never got his hand(s) on the rim. This was more of a shot than a dunk as he threw the ball in the rim.

Either way it was amazing that he had the ability to lift that 270 pounds frame up that high in the air. It was an ''of the moment thing,'' Howard had to crowd captivated. Best individual performance since Vince Carter.

and yes I did watch the contest when Jason Richardson and Desmond Mason were one upping each other on numerous 360 between the legs. The between the legs dunk has gotten stale, socks on slippery hardwood or not Gerald Green did it too much. Respect for the birthday cake dunk, humor is a rarely used element in the dunk contest.

It was still pretty impressive even without him actually grabbing the rim, although I wish he had.... woulda been even more awesome. :)

And Ostertag, apparently.

Or have you all forgotten?

Ouch my eyes!
;)
Dwight Howard is just.....abnormally amazing in a good way.

Gerald Green was good, but he lost it to DH before the final round even started. How DH got just 78% percent of the vote is crazy, I expected more.

A good battle in the skills between Chris Paul & Deron Williams(the two I wanted to see anyway)

Why didn't Kapono stay in Miami is anyone's guess.

Jason Kidd's son has always had a mustache, a rather thin one but one nevertheless

A dunk is any kind of shot when the player manually powers the ball downward through the basket.

Since when ? So you can jump at the three pointer and chuck the ball towards the rim and if its going downwards the whole time thats a dunk ?
That was really cool creativity-wise, but it wasn't a dunk, he had no chance of even touching the rim.

C'mon - his hand was within maybe 6" of the rim and he was definitely powering the ball down. Did he touch the rim? No, but I bet there have been other dunks in games where the player never touched the rim either.

By any but the most strict interpretation of the word, this was a dunk.

Well in that case it was the least powerful "dunk" I have ever seen in my life.

lol what in god's name would it have took to impress you? him flying from half court, doing a somersault in the air three or four times before throwing it off the backboard and dunking it in reverse?

seriously that was amazing. An amazing dunk.

When Dwight first first did that superman dunk the camera was behind him and i thought he actually dunked, i went nuts

it was amazing and very impressive but it was not a dunk. Technically, should have not counted. They took Rip's threes away because he stepped on the line. Double standards but NBA is entertainment & money first and sports - sometimes

Taken directly from the NBA.com glossary. http://www.nba.com/analysis/00422966.html#a-d
