Former Mavericks swingman Adrian Griffin has agreed to a three-year contract with the Chicago Bulls, his agent said Sunday afternoon.
Tony Dutt said the Mavericks offered a two-year deal at a competitive salary. Dutt declined to reveal financial terms of the Bulls’ contract or Mavericks’ offer.
“He had such a respect for Avery [Johnson] and the Mavericks’ organization,” said Dutt, who represented Johnson during the Mavericks coach's playing career. “With that being said, players at the end of the day have to go with their gut.”
Griffin, 32, played a valuable role during the Mavericks' run to the NBA Finals after sitting out the first month of the season while waiting on a team to offer him a contract. He started 45 games during the regular season, averaging 4.6 points and 4.4 rebounds and doing a lot of dirty work.
Dutt said Milwaukee, Washington and Sacramento also showed serious interest in the 6-5, 230-pound Griffin.
Griffin, who did not immediately return a phone message, played for the Bulls in 2004-05.

The bulls get a veteran guy for backup SG, since all the backups they had at that position had no nba experience. Good move, and makes the bulls even better defensively. With hinrich/griffin/nocioni/sefolosha/thomas/big ben, they could be one of the best defensive teams in the league next year.

Definitely a good signing, I've liked Griff since he was with the Bulls the first time... they missed him in 05-06. He'll only add more toughness, experience, and defense. Good team player.

I'd say it's not "could" but will be one of the best defensive teams in the league. :)

Also gotta put Duhon in there, he's one of their best guard defenders.

Interesting to see we showed interest, keeping our options open and would be one of the type of guys I'd want if we lost Bonzi to come off the bench. I wanted us to get him last year when he wasn't signed anywhere, but Dallas scooped him up.

An odd thing for us to be interested -- may again just have been the whole Bonzi thing -- we wanted to keep Griffith as a posibility in case Bonzi left. But with the Bonzi thing dragging out, guys have to start to go elsewhere.

And, once again, it could be just a case of throwing the Sacramento name out there. If Petrie has been talking to all the players whose agents have mentioned the Kings, I certainly hope he's been able to take a break once in a while for food and rest.

;)

Chicago keeps getting better and better along with the Hornets while the Kings are taking a laid back approach. We didn't even get Bonzi resigned/traded. Petrie needs to step on it and soon hopefully before i go crazy.

I doubt the Hornets become a top team in the West. Along with a couple oft-injured players in B-Jax/Peja. 6-8 seed at best, I'd say. Which is no doubt an improvement.
