Adams

That's not entirely true. It's a very popular sport in NZ and Australia (Not as big as the US or Europe, but big all the same), It's just the national competition is pretty low-quality. Their national team is ranked #18 worldwide, though.

It's like say, Soccer in the US. There's a decent amount of support for the teams, and plenty of kids play; but the state/city teams won't match up to the powerhouses in Europe.

Name the 17 countries ahead of New Zealand and tell me how many NBA players have come from New Zealand. I don't think there are 17 European countries although I sure could be wrong.

Player development is all about access to advice and evaluation relative to good competition. Americans have summer camps and AAU system for high school kids, you have national teams in Europe and starting to play very early against grown man. I suspect Adams never touched basketball until he was 15 and then trained for 4 years in very isolated environment, so when you say he has 6 year learning experience, you should probably count all his time in NZ closer to 1.5-2 years for a prospect in America or Europe. In other words, even more limited.

A nice video of Adams talking about what he thinks about the Kings. Seems like a really good kid.

I still hope we draft this guy, and not another guard.. I think we should try and give Jimmer another chance in the rotation.. Im sure we could get his value up this year.

weird to see Canada be ranked so low. probably going to change soon, though.

It should be noted that the FIBA ranking is based on international and continental competitions results by National Teams.
So, New Zealand and Australia rankings are helped by the fact that they are basically the 2 only competitors in FIBA Oceania.
In the same way, Angola is ranked 15th an Iran 20th worldwide because of the low level of competition in FIBA Asia and FIBA Africa.

ah! that would also account for Canada being ranked so low. getting bashed around by all the American powerhouses in their continental competition would be rather detrimental to your ranking, I guess.

Bosnian Diehard, are you still living in Bosnia? One of my teammates here is Bosnian (huge guy, about 6'6'' and probably 240+), said he played in a semi-professional league when he was back in Bosnia.

I agree with this 100% and this is the point I have been trying to make. He is the product of a country devoid of basketball coaches. Heck, the reason New Zealand is ranked 18th is probably because of Adams. Thanks, jalfa, for the link. When Iran is rated above New Zealand, you know you are not a power. Yikes. Two African countries are rated higher than New Zealand.

I have posted this before but Adams said he attended a big time basketball camp in New Zealand a few years ago and 30 people showed up. He is proud that 300 people showed up this last year. He'd be playing rugby if he wasn't so dang tall but credit the rugby happy environment with the fact he is 255 pounds of muscle and loves to bang. I suspect we won't take him but he is the kind of guy I'd love to watch evolve. He's 19!!! I think back to the Michael "Animal" Smith days as to his attitude on the court. Sacramento fans would fall in love with him.

Nah man, my parents moved to Sacramento in 1997 for better life opportunities (due to the war obviously), I myself have never lived in Bosnia but have visited twice so far.

yeah typically most Bosnians I know like to ball, and there are some really good Bosnian high school prospects, but we can save that talk for future drafts :D

If he is Sacramento I actually might know him, the Bosnian community is close-knit here in sactown. :D

Yeah, he moved here due to the war. I live in Ireland, so not quite Sacramento. :p I can imagine, basketball is very popular there. I saw a video of this guy playing in Bosnia and he was dunking all over the place, at 19. That was only a few years ago so he's not old, but he's not in as good shape as he was. Really nice guy though (he looks like the meanest dude in the world) and still a really good player. He's a man mountain. And the Bosnian community here is really tight knit too, that must be a cultural thing? :)

I really do hope we can get him, but I doubt the Kings are thinking of taking him, which saddens me. (lol

The guy isn't ready to play in the NBA. Kings can't afford a player like that this year. This team hasn't been the best in developing players, unfortunately. Plus, Cousins and Adams won't be able to play together. Cousins can't guard PFs, especially since there are so many stretch PFs.

I don't agree with much of this but after reviewing how you debate, I don't want to say anything more to address your points. The long and short of is that, at this stage of his development, I think he would be a great partner with Cuz. It is exactly because of our differing view is that I think debate is pointless.

For instance stating that the Kings have not been good at developing young talent may be true but what does it have to do with the present coach? We are dealing with the NOW and not the past.

really don't know why the Kings wouldn't be able to afford a project this year. it's not as if any of the players available at the #7 would make that much of an immediate impact and if he can be what you'd hope for him to be, then he's a very good fit next to Cuz (the hope being that he can check power forwards). also, the hope is that player development will improve significantly under the new regime.

I think that Adams is pretty quick and he can actually guard most PFs.

Oh, that's cool, and I wouldn't consider Ireland to Sacramento but still. :D

Yeah we usually stay close together, probably provides comfort for he refugees. :D

Blatant disregard for the fact that our entire ownership, front office and coaching staff are new.

Of course nobody wants to "debate" you. You don't let facts inform your opinions.
