A thought on the Webber trade...

This goes for those who are applauding the trade, thought Webber was wrong for this team all along AS WELL as those who are in mourning because they think the team is now headed for years of mediocrity. (And anybody who falls anywhere in between.)

So what does that leave us to discuss? Either you are for or against. I think as long as the discussion is civil, and we can point out the advantages, and disadvantages than it should be cool..

Why is there a discussion forum if the mods aren't letting the people discuss? Banning should happen when some idiot wants Petrie to die or something, but most conversations have been good. Either you are for it or against it..

Almost like going to a presidential election forum saying everything is OK but discussing which president you feel should win ;)

VF21 is simply tell us all to remain civil in our discussions.

What there ISN'T room for and what WON'T be tolerated is for people to come here and totally slander one of our players, our coaches, Petrie, etc.
Thank you, VF! :)

Gary, all I said was that people from both sides and the middle are free to express their positions PROVIDED they remain civil about it. If you notice I have been pretty much in the background on this whole thing, after my initial shock and response.

I'm glad we have people expressing themselves and talking about this. We'd be a pretty dead message board if this didn't bring people here... :D

Hope this clears up any misunderstanding.

GO KINGS!!!

PFFFT! I'm going to admit since I don't live in Sacto, the reason I am (might still be) was because of Webber. He's been my 2nd favorite player to Mr. Jordan since I was a child and I abhored the teams I lived near (Knicks/Nets/Philly) growing up. Now with this trade especially the way it was done it's going to be tough......I can imagine there are others in this group. I wouldn't call myself bandwagon. I'm a Chris Webber fan and I've followed his career around. It's going to be tough to watch.

Yea me too.....he really was whhy I was drawn to the kings - him and Christie.

I'm pretty sure this trade will hurt us in the short run, but I'm beginning to understand just why it had to be done and why we didn't get very much in return. Petrie knew this team wasn't going to win it all this year... the last ten games or so are probably pretty indicative of how the team would have finished out the season--fighting for the 5th seed, possibly lower and losing in the first round.

Chances of Webber getting hurt again, and badly are always there... once that happens we have a huge contract sitting on the IL that can't play and can't be traded. We're stuck. At least now we will get to find out what Peja will do given the opportunity he has supposedly been craving, and we get some other guys that are maybe more easily tradeable.

But why didn't we get some of Philly's younger guys? My guess is Petrie wanted to get rid of Webber worse than Billy King wanted to acquire him. The deal was dead if Petrie demanded the younger guys, and thus he had to settle.

Clearly the risk of getting stuck with an injured/ineffective Webber and an unhappy Peja leaving shortly thereafter was the reason behind this trade. That would leave us in a very bad spot down the road... this at least gives us a chance.

The flip side is that Webb could have continued to improve, wouldn't have gotten hurt and would lead us to a championships. I'm sure most of us here know in our hearts that probably wouldn't happen, and I'm guessing GP and the Maloofs decided the chances of that happening were slim enough to go ahead with this move.

I'll miss Webb, but I'm curious to see how the guys respond (especially Peja).
