Bench
Ok, here is my plan. My buddy and I were discussing what we think they should do and here is what I came up with. Trades were checked by ESPN's trade checker.
---Trade Bibby, Mo Taylor, Garcia, and KT for Posey, J-Will, Dorell Wright, and a 1st Rounder.
That gets KT off the books and gets us 2 young prospects in Wright and a pick. J-Will has 2 years left so he can be our PG for a year or two while we rebuild.
---Trade Artest for Maggette
Magette and Martin will be getting to the line a lot. They will score some points even on their bad nights. Hopefully they can get the other team in foul trouble too.
-Play the youngsters:
Ronnie Price, especially. It's time to see what he can do. If they show something then let's get him in the rotation. If not, then we will at least know what we have. Also, by playing the younger guys, we will improve our lottery chances. We need to get in the top 5 or so for this plan to work.
1st pick: Oden, Noah, Horford, Wright (UNC)
2nd pick: Sean Williams, Tiago Splitter, Aaron Gray would all be options
Lineup for '07-'08 season (could be adjusted based upon actual draft pick):
C: Miller 2nd Pick J. Williams
PF: 1st pick SAR
SF: Maggette D. Wright
SG: K-Mart Douby
PG: J-Will Salmons R. Price
That team is solid and if we got Oden, Noah, Horford, or B. Wright it would give us a franchise type big man to build around. Scoring on the wings (Maggette, Martin), and good passers in J-Will and Miller. Scoring (Douby and SAR) and versatility (Salmons, Wright) off the bench. It also puts us in a much better cap situation. I tried to make it realistic and if we ended up with Durant in the draft then Magette could be traded for a big. This also doesn't account for FA signings.
I imagine that some people won't be too keen on having J-Will as our starting PG for the next couple years. He's just a stopgap and we aren't going to be competing with that team until the draft picks develop anyways, he'll just be good at getting everyone the ball. So, what's everyone think?
