A Kings farm team???

A Kings farm team? Who to put on it?

With Albuquerque becoming one of the new NBADL teams one has to wonder if this doesn't become a Kings-Maloof farm team. Wouldn't that be great!?

Having current end of the bench guys getting lots of playing time as well as looking at the future with 2nd round and undrafted players with a Geoff Petrie type influence getting playing time they would not see against that level of competition. Sampson with Cisco or Kevin and a euro or two would make a nice team to watch. If they were on NBA TV or occasionally on ESPN.

Just like the the River Cats are to the A's and boy has that relationship done well for Sacto and for the A's.

would that not allow them to play with their respective NBA team, or could you bring people up like in baseball? I have a feeling Cisco will see more minutes then expected this season, and not because of injuries.

While I agree it might do Sampson some good, especially looking at his minimal experience so far in the NBA, I certainly hope teams don't start parking their younger players in the DL just because they're young. Both Kevin AND Cisco, IMHO, have the potential to be valuable members of the Kings squad this year. I think sending them to the minors, so to speak, would be a step backward at this point in time.

My vision of the NBADL is for guys who have potential but haven't had NCAA or equivalent experience.

One thing about the nbdl i dont like as far as players like martin and cisco is that it really doesn't help them mature that much, because there playing against lesser players. The more there able to get into real games and play against tougher competion the faster they'll inprove. Some players it is good for, but the same thing goes for them. Being a basketball player i know that you adapt to who you play with. So if your playing with lesser talent you start playing like thta because everything is easy, But then when you go and play with better players its harder to adapt. So hopefully the kings are careful who they send there.

yeah, I too agree that Kevin and Cisco probably should not go the the DL. Sampson is good candidate along with some of Petrie's hidden gems he always seems to find. It will be interesting if basketball players can benefit the same way as AAA baseball players can. Lower levels of play would be the CBA and the other leagues. Also it will be a good way for the Euros/Latin/Asian players to step up their play to see if they can go up to the NBA.

That might well have made a tremendous difference in his entire career. Give him some practical experience and an opportunity to develop a strong work ethic and we might be talking about someday hanging his number in the rafters, instead of saying "Gerald who?"

Thee's more to being a successful NBA player than appearing in the All-Star dunk competition. Five years from now, new Kings fans won't even remember him. After all, two players have had his number since he left (Cuttino and now one of the newbies - Hart, I think).

Yeah i agree. Im just saying i hope the kings are thinking like us and dont send them down there, just because. I feel it will hurt them more then help.

I disagree with your vision,VF; I've been an advocate of an NBA minor league for YEARS now. There might not be a comparable level of competition now, but it wouldn't exactly be a difficult transition to raise the level of competition if the NBDL were to become a full-fledged minor league.

The minor league farm system is one of the few things that I thing baseball gets right; I don't hear many people complaining that players that get called up from AAA aren't ready for the Majors because they haven't been playing major-league competition.

I'm sorry, but I have no idea what part of my vision you're disagreeing with. I think we're in essence on the same side on this issue.

My comment about Gerald Wallace stands. In the Kings system, he didn't get much of a chance. If he had been on the minor league Kings team, he might have been able to develop his game more fully and be productive in that same system.

Who would I want on the Kings NBADL team. Well if they have to have 13 on the floor and bench for games that only leaves 2 slots. Sampson can't go, he's been in league 4 years. We have 2 rooks, Cisco and Ronnie Price, and two 2nd year guys in Kevin and Erik Daniels (not signed). Kevin and Cisco I see on the main squad and Daniels is not signed but was last year so may be a restricted FA.

I see one big guy for sure, maybe Archibald and then maybe Price. But if Price is a good as they say having a 3rd true PG is ok and he'll learn more on main team. BUT if he does not get playing time then I see him going to the DL team. Daniels is a real grey area player. He played Point Guard in high school then got too big, tho' 6-8 is not too big in NBA. He is very good ball handler, rebounds really good but is only 215-220. soo....... don't think so.

I don't think it is like minor league bball yet where each team has a designated farm team. I think it may be more like NFL Europe where the NBADL has a "draft" where they can select from the pool of players that have been designated for NBADL use. Maybe they will eventually go to a designated team for each club, but it doesn't look like the language or talk I have heard about the NBADL has indicated that so far.

I thought they were going to try to establish something like a total of 15 teams, 1 for every 2 NBA teams to share (ie. the Kings and say Warriors, for example, might each contribute players to one dev team), IIRC. Might be wrong on this though....

No the Kings do not have an NBADL team. My original point was that Albuquerque will have one of the new NBADL teams and as of a few days ago they had hired Michael Cooper as the head coach after his stint in the WNBA.

And Albuquerque is the original home-headquarters of the Maloofs.

"The Pit" at the Univ of New Mexico is a great arena. The Kings played a preseason game there 3-4 years ago and will again this year.

Just seemed to make sense that the Kings would share the ABQ team what with their local presence.
