A controversial article on Casspi:

I'd like to know what the exact question was that he was answering when he said "I am ready for a bigger team".

That last sentence bugs me. I really do hope that it wasn't actually Casspi who said it, but rather just a invention of the reporter. Anything else would be too disturbing.

I'd like to know what the exact question was that he was answering when he said "I am ready for a bigger team".
I'm pretty sure he probably was generally speaking, and meant that more as a comment directed at the Kings future, and what's upcoming next season and so forth, because I'm sure he knows that he is a big part in the future of this team. UNLESS...for some strange reason, Petrie does the unthinkable and drafts another small forward with our high lottery pick...weird, but possible I guess. Why Omri has fallen out of grace with Westphal and the rest of the organization already is mind boggling, but I guess this summer will tell us alot about the overall direction and attitude of our team, and whether they want to build and move forward with a player like Omri...I for one have no problem with Omri being a big part of our moving forward, I think he provides a Manu-esque type of persona/playing style and would love to see him stick around for awhile.

edit: I know he started slumping with his shot after the All-Star break, but that happens...we'll see what he brings to the table and what he's worked on this summer to better his shot and hopefully he'll be here awhile.

It's a very shady article. Seems like the writer deffinetly has an agenda. Not sure who the guy is though, and I don't know much about that site, but some of the facts aren't right. I herd it myself, Casspi admitted that he was tired, and that he needed to work on his stamina so he could play like he plays for 82 games. So while that article says Casspi wasn't tired... It's hard to believe that when Casspi said it.

As far as why Westphal stopped playing him... I don't have an answer for that. Greene and Casspi should have played more minutes than they did.

And the trading part of the artcle is kind of rediculous. I'm sure EVERY team would want him... Not just 8 or whatever the article said.

Just a side note: If it came down to Casspi or Greene, and one of them needed to go, I'd keep Greene.

Yes, this article was clearly written with an agenda. I find it hard to believe that much of it wasn't taken out of context and skewed to the whims of the authors interpretation.

Most of this article seems like a whole bunch of bull****.
I would like to see the complete interview of when Casspi stated that. I'm willing to be it was taken completely out of context.

Agreed...especially the $$$ sentence that they threw in 'I'm ready for a bigger team'. WTF!?! What journalistic school did this writer go to, NY Post Academy or something??

It's clear the writer has a failing grasp of the English language. The feel of the article is of having been put through an online automatic translation. Most of the sentences don't make sense. This man is horrible. I don't think he should write anymore.

First off, its a jewish publication and their going to come down on the side of their favorite son. I'm sure they thought Casspi should have played more, and probably been the year long starter at the SF position. So I would take everything they say with a grain of salt.

Add to that, Casspi's fiery personallity and competitive spirit, And I would doubt he has an objective opinion of his game. The problem your always going to have with european players are the interviews with european journalists. Too many times they're loaded with unnamed sources and innuendo. But hey! Something to get the TDOS started.

I can't imagine that Omri wasn't upset with his lack of playing time, as most of the players were upset with the sometimes erratic substitutions. I think those ills will be cured to an extent next season, and we'll have a more predictable rotation, and whoever is left out is just left out. Hopefully Nocioni won't be in the picture anymore, and the small forward minutes will go to Garcia, Greene and Casspi, in whatever proportion is appropriate.

That said, the writer is definitely making a huge leap. Doesn't matter, though. Petrie doesn't usually give up on a player after just one season. Casspi showed promise, and there's no reason he can't be a part of the mix going forward, as long as he has his head on straight.

Article aside, I saw a worn out Casspi on the court. One that also made repeated mistakes on defense most nights because he didn't learn the players he was defending. Also it wasn't the post all star break that all this came out. Go back and look at the coach comments way back around training camp about wondering how long he could keep up the torrid effort he was putting out every day. No conspiracy here. He needs to work on a few things like the other rookies and come back ready to compete for the starting SF spot like some others. I think sometimes coach went with Nocioni because Casspi and Greene were widely unpredictable from night to night.

And I wonder when we will see the Donte "trade me or play me" article? The TDOS is here!

I couldn't read the whole article because it wouldn't load on my computer, but I'll comment on the "I'm ready to play for a bigger team" thing. When he said that, I'm not so sure it translates to "I'm ready to play for the Lakers". I think he was trying to say "I'm ready for this team to get better". Like I said, I didn't read the article so I can't really tell.

I was joking... Try relaxing a little. Your life will drastically improve.

"I'm ready for a bigger team" could easily be taken out of context. Casspi could've meant he's ready for the Kings to become a bigger team in the future. No way am I going to take this article seriously.

Last night Grant Napear described Omri as "having a sense of entitlement." Now this article.

Grant also mentioned how Omri is "the man" in Israel and that is having an impact on how he sees himself in this league.

It's tough to judge. he is a cocky 21 year old. There may also be cultural differences at work here.

Alright, where to beign with this silly thing:

1) there is a long long history of international players, including our own, spouting off stuff they would never say in the American press back in their own countries. And yes, I do beleive this is more than helped along by aggressive nationalistic media who ask particular questions and spin all they can. Nonetheless everyone from Peja, to Vlade to Noc to Sergio to possibly Omri have revealed eyebrow raising discontent back home. I think some of it too is pressure they feel to save face in front of their national audiences. On the other hand why they feel that these comments will never circulate back to the States in the internet age I have never figured out.

2) and I have gotten hints on and off during the season that there actually might be some sort of prima donna issue with Omri or competition with Reke. Or just not 100% getting it. Remember him with a veiled shot at Reke's passing back before the new year. Also found his statement early in the year that Kings management had told him that they were planning on building around he and Reke to be odd. Did he really think that highly of himself that early? Was he just trying to graft himself onto Reke in some sort of competitive thing? Or was he just kind of innocent about the whole thing? Don't know. Seemed odd for a kid to go from just happy to be in the legaue/first to represent his nation to thinking he was owed somethng that fast. Now this.

3) that said the author here is blatantly spinning a record for us down the back half of the article. The quote from Amick -- no particular friend of the Kings or Tyreke from what I have gathered from his comments on the way out the door and in his reports of the rookie race -- is pretty ridiculous. Amick knows, as did the writer, as did Omri, that what also happened soon after Omri's peak run was that Kevin returned. In fact this very same writer wrote an article on the event: http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/spages/1143052.html

to try to spin Amick's quote now into some sort of implication that the Kings were intentionally holding Omri back, and maybe in favor of Tyreke even, is just ludicrous. Then we get a quote from an alleged associate of Omri's, who then gets dignified as a "basketball reporter" in the next paragraph. Mentioning alleged trade offers? As if those don't exist for every team in the NBA. And then finish off with one of the all time ambiguous quotes form Omri -- the only time he is quoted int he whole story. "I am ready for a bigger team." What the hell does that mena? Taller team? Improved team in the future? Bigger role on the team? Or does it actually mean another team? Who knows. All I know is that this little outlet is the only one to have picked up that alleged quote made "to the press".

In short, maybe there is a little too much Rudy Fernandez in Omri. Is possible. When guys come over as the best players in their nation/national heroes its not always easy for them to check their egos and become mere cogs. But you are hardly going to be able to tell from a slanted piece like this, and it never fails to amaze me how much damage to a player's rep alleged fans of his are willing to do with their needy whining on his behalf.

I haven't read the full article yet since i don't have the time at the moment, but let me calm you guys down, "haaretz" newspaper isn't exactly the most reliable newspaper in Israel, their articles, most of the time are against Maccabi Tel Aviv or their players, and Casspi is an ex-player.

I don't know what he really said(or if he even said something) but there's no doubt the "reporter" took his words out of context in order to gain more publicity..
How do i know it? because just today an interview with Casspi was published in nrg.co.il which is a much bigger newspaper than haaretz and what he's saying there is exactly the opposite, he says only good things about Sacramento, the community and especially Paul Westphal...

I'll translate some of it later if you want.

P.S, There's a way i can change my forum nickname? it's too big..

Please do on the translation of the other article. This one could use a good counter.

And on the username, if you want to change it send a PM to JGar (site owner) with the request and he should be able to do it for you.

Casspi was missing open threes. Over and over.

The article is taking advantage of the shameless way the Kings management handled Tyreke and using it to push an Omri issue.

So, there's probably some truth to it, but not truth to its cause.

He started out at the top as far as 3pt% early in the season. He didn't even finish in the top 50.
