Malik doesn't play D and that's a problem. Coby White licking his chopsticks every time he sees Malik in front of him. This is what I have been saying time and time again, coach has a dilemma to make in the starting lineup or WINNING LINEUPS. You can't have Malik, DeRozen and Lavine on the court at the same time. It's just going to be trading basket back and forth. But that's not conducive to winning because you can lose momentum at any time as you start missing shots. He should have yanked Malik Monk out of the lineup when he sees he constantly getting beat. Devin Carter should be the PG and Ellis the SG.

Hall of Famer
White’s season high for free throws was 9. 14 tonight.

If Coby played just the second half, his 31 points would be his third highest scoring game of the season.

that’s really bad. It’s not like he was just splashing threes, he got almost all of it in the paint and at the line.
Coby cooked the Kings last March too with 37. He didn't play in the match up in Chicago

A lot is riding on this end of season stretch. Given our remaining schedule and the fact that we are playing teams like Portland, Orlando and Indiana (teams we have had a tough time with) I’m predicting we finish either 41-41 or 42-40. If it’s 41-41 Doug will finish this year at 28-23 as coach. That sounds pretty good but we would be 21 22 since the 7 game winning streak. Obviously a lot has happened since he got the gig. Half the team is new. If we finish .500 I’d assume Monte gets canned. Now we have to deal with a new guy who’s drafting/team building methods could be totally different. 43 wins might buy Monte another year. I’d rather keeps building what we have. Get a good player in the second round. Develop Devin and the other young pieces. Trade one of the non defenders and build a gritty play hard every night type of team.

The nerve of this 9th seeded team thinking they could let the gas off. It's embarrassing
The Kings did not let the gas off. They got outplayed and outcoached. Bulls got better shots as the game progressed. There was no press or doubling of Coby from our side. After our hot first quarter, the Bulls prioritized perimeter defense and Kings did really did not counter it well and get the inside game going. Too many non-calls in the paint blunted our response.

Is it too late to fall back in the lottery and keep the pick? These games are wearing on me bad. Not sure how much more of this I can realistically stand.

They litteraly said in the press conference they let the gas off.

Monk and DeRozen played 2 on 5 on offense, playing for themselves and not they're team. They are not playing team basketball at all.

Lavine touches the ball with 6 seconds when he even touches the rock. I was going to blame Lavine, but now looking at the game. He's not getting opportunity to even get a flow in the game.

This just isn't kings basketball. Yesterday was beautiful, then we do this

I'm not an expert in advanced basketball analytics, but I have to think there is some stat out there that is widely available to teams that could tell you a starting lineup that has Lavine, Monk, and DeRozan in it is not going to work out that well.

What a strange lame game. Thumbs down on Kevon remembering how to finally shoot again.

I’m now officially on the ‘Monk, DeeBo, Zach’ trio cannot work together bandwagon.
It is starting to look a little too ball-heavy.

I don't want to trade Deebo or Zach though, but would be open to dealing Malik if the right deal came along in the offseason, reason being we have Keon (and an increasingly competent looking Carter) waiting in the wings.

Hypothetical: would you trade Malik straight up for a first round draft pick say in the 10-20 range? I think I might if I felt good about a prospect that we had an eye on.

Either that, or convince DeRozan to be a super sub. I could see that working (if he agreed).

That's true he did great on help but he wasn't able to stick with guys on the perimeter. The issue was stopping the pick and roll penetration. Pretty much everybody else was getting beat off the dribble or pushed down into the basket area.
Why was Jonas stuck on the bench almost the entire second half, then? He only played 15 minutes total. Having a giant in the paint tends to discourage layups. I could not figure out why the Kings had no center on the court.

A couple of things stood out in tonight's game as an aside.

Zack LaVine did not want to play in this game. His personal concerns were a distraction but he also didn't want to be accused of "ducking" a game against his old team. Kudos for him for giving it a try but it ended up hurting the team as he went through the motions. Also, it is not completely evident that he wants to be a King at all, or at least perform under the conditions in which he has to play. Whether to deal him away or not is dependent on how the team is structured for next season.

Jake LaRavia did not appear to be 100% although he gave 100% of what he had. Whatever the illness was that caused him to totally miss a game the prior day does not have the after-effects magically disappear in 24-hours. This is the type of player that brings a lot of value to the team. Now, how does the team keep him for next season?

Devin Carter has earned more playing time. No more G-League for this guy.

Monk is a dilemma...so many ups and downs and inconsistencies. Apparently, great in the locker room leadership role but crowds the starting lineup. Perhaps some team with a need for a streak shooter would give up some valuable assets to obtain him.

At the post-game conference, Doug seemed to have some frustrations along similar lines. You can tell he's well aware that we need an infusion of defensive commitment that we are clearly lacking. I wouldn't want to be the one having to decide to let a Zach, Malik, or Demar go though.... each is incredible. Too bad they aren't as awesome on the other side of the ball.

It's always so deflating to wake up in the morning after a Kings defeat, especially when they could and should have won the game. I do not mind the Kawhi Leonard daggers so much as the 19- or 20-point leads that are squandered in a very tough Western Conference race.

I feel ya. I got the same feeling. If Christie is afraid of benching Monk, he won't be coaching soon. Now, I am not saying Monk isn't worthy of being a starter. He does, but they need to surround him with more 2-way players. But when you surround him DeRozen and Lavine....it's bad because THEY THEMSELVES need to be surrounded by 2-way players as well lol. We can't be throwing a bunch of high octane scorers out there that don't play D and expect no consequences.

This is just what .500ish teams do. Make you think they're capable of being really good one game and then break your heart the next.

The officiating on those Coby White drives was ridiculous. It was like they already had made up their minds that they were going to send him to the line before he even attempted to put the ball up. Same contact on the other end of the floor and they swallow the whistles. He had more free throws than Monk, DDR and LaVine combined.

Definitely seeing a lot of JVal's shortcomings lately. Seems like the Kings are visibly much worse with him on the floor most games. He has no ability to guard players that can stretch the floor. Got absolutely roasted by Vuc out there.
