5:00 to Marcus Williams

Gary

All-Star
This would be a great pick for us if we draft him..

It's our pick now, so it should be a no brainer.

Why not Marcus Williams!? Oh well, hopefully Petrie knows something about Douby that makes him a better pick. Hopefully he can be the backup PG.

As I said somewhere else, I really don't know much about these prospects but Marcus Williams was in top 10 in every mock draft I have seen, so to say that a) he has slipped as much as he has and b) we didn't pick him up, is really surprising for me

I think Petrie passed on Marcus Williams because they didn't work him out in the pre-draft camps, thinking there was no chance of getting him. He probably decided to go with what he saw with his own eyes rather than an uncertainty (at least to him) in Marcus Williams.

Marcus is a good player, but didn't he measure out with a 28.5 inch vertical? That's the type of athlete we want playing backup point guard? I think there are plenty of reasons that the Kings (and a whole gang of other teams) passed on him.

That's a good point Kev.in. Douby is way more athletic...but do you guys think he can play the Point. He must be able to if Petrie drafted him. Right?

Williams is a HUGE headcase. The only UConn player in this draft that will pan out is Armstrong. The rest are busts.

He doesn't have to play point guard. He just has to be a productive backcourt player. I know it's draft night and everyone is getting all excited and thinking short-term but we do have 3 months if a pure point guard off the bench is a priority. A chubby headcase isn't the be-all and end-all.

I'll just say that if Cisco was able to play some backup point last season, then Douby should be able to at some point as well. We'll see.

Ya those are all good points Kev.in. I can't really see Bonzi being back now...but it's probably too early to say that. It's just that we would have 4 SG's with Douby, Garcia, Martin, and Wells. That's too many.

I'm hoping he can fill the role of BJax coming off the bench. Why else would Petrie draft him? Hopefully we can resign Bonzi at a fair price to make some noise this season.

I can't believe we passed up Williams to draft Quincy Douby...:( :( :(

Well, Douby is the better player under most analysis.

Its just a question whether he's the better POINT guard. And that's shaky.

We'll have to see whwther there is any imact on Bonzi. There SHOULD'NT be -- Douby is too small to be an NBA OG and should be a tweener PG. But you never know.

I can see Douby as Bobby Jackson type PG, come in, make it happen, gaurd a litle and share the handeling duties with another 2 gaurd with handles.

But even if Bonzi's gone Martin's still the starting SG. It might just mean Douby would play a few minutes backing up at SG.

I have to think this choice shows a lot of confidence in Garcia coming back to pre injury form. With Garcia's ballhandling Douby can be a BJax type of guy off the bench while Garcia does what we used to do with Christie and the second unit and moves to ballhandling role. Pretty interesting change of pace bench taking shape considering the primary scoring from our starters comes from our 2 and 3 posting up and beating down their defenders we suddenly have three electrically quick wing type players spelling them off the bench. Could be a pain to deal with

I like the pick a lot, it'll improve the bench, give us SHOOTING, can create his own shot which are needed. The guy can play defense according to most scouting reports. Just needs to put some weight on, but his length and quickness will help. Some people said similar things about Garcia, despite having length and some quickness, and was known as being able to play defense anyways. Eddie House? Nah.

Don't think the pick relates to Bonzi due to who he is, what money we can offer him, and our roster versatility.

Means we'll get a back-up PG whos already in the league, as we should, and being a two-way guard (offense and defense).

So we are gonna re-sign Bonzi and bring in another PG through FA? That would mean that we would have about 8 guards....not gonna happen...
