49ers thread for 2008-2009

Whoo!!!

I was just thinking I hadn't noticed Willis much lately (last year you couldn't help but notice him almost every game) and that this would be a good time to make one of those big plays they say he needs to add to his game. He got a little lucky to start with but did the rest himself.

25 seconds.

1 timeout.

2nd and 1.

Why in Gods name dont you run another play to get better field goal position? 41 yards, while doable, isn't a chipshot.

Horrible game management.

Hindsight is always 20-20.

I'm getting more enjoyment out of this game than any 49er game in a long time. Baby steps...but definite steps in the right direction.

GO NINERS!!!!!

I wouldn't call it horrible, but I would have preferred to try another run... even if just to get it closer to the middle of the field.

I agree completely 100%. I was confused at the time why they werent calling time with 20+ seconds to go, unless the coaching staff really doesnt trust the offense to make one play wtihout turning it over. The miss just cemented that for me- they are lucky they one the coin toss or this game would have gone in the books as yet another solid effort by the niners ruined by bone headed decisions.

that said- great game and i am lovin the win and 300 yards from jto!

Lookin sharp. Of course, this was the Lions. :) Stiffer test next week vs New Orleans, but I'm actually looking forward to these games now vs just expecting us to lose.

Yo Fakeinjury! I actually graduated with John Thomas, sat next to him in classes and even went on the same Kairos with dude. (This is my wife's sn) JHigh baby! A buddy of mine that went to JHigh and played football with him saw JTO about 3 years ago at 24 hour when his mop was in full swing, it was classic!

He was a cocky arrogant guy but he never bothered me. We got along well, he liked to talk smack back and forth with me but it was all good natured ribbing. I always liked the guy but some couldn't stand him.

It was awesome watching him play at Jesuit, dude won a section championship as a junior a yaer after Gio Carmazzi graduated and failed to do it. I knew all of those guys, Ike Fontaine, Chris Griffin, Jay Bridges, Omarr Collins, Nigel Burton, man those were the days! Etu Molden, a real good friend of mine played for Montana State as a WR, he was a baller too! But JTO actually made it and look at my guy now!

what do you guys think our chances are against the saints?

I think with their offensive injuries we will be able to focus more on bush and keep him from making those big outside plays. We have to get pressure on brees though cause he's very accurate right now. Watch out for Henderson also he's due to have a monster game. But I think with colston and shockey out we should be okay in the defensive dept.

Now the Saints defence just blows. With the balanced run pass attack we've been having and the quick decisions by JTO I think we should be able to put up 30+ points for a third consecutive week.

I don't like to look ahead in the schedule but since I'm actually going to the 49ers/patriots game the following Sunday I wanted to say that I'm pretty nervous about that particular game. After the pats were embarrased at home by the lowly dolphins and having a bye week to prepare for us look for them to regroup and have a much more disciplined defence against us.

But in my personal opinion I don't think they have enough firepower and confidense to beat us especially if wer'e riding an emotional and confident high after beating the saints and being 3-1!

So I say let's go niners and let's get this game against the saints!

I can see a win vs the saints, we have yet to allow a QB to pass for over 200 yards which is very impressive.

They have injuries to their offense and their defense is really bad...we've been able to capitalize on others injuries but that's the NFL.

If we can limit Bush's big plays we will win...Bush has killed us in games past.

In all fairness to J.T., it was pointed out that he had very few plays where he wasn't rushed in the pocket. At one point, I think he was rushed 23/29. That's on the line. But, having said that, he just didn't look very confident today...

We're still doing better than I would have thought at the beginning of the year, however...

The O-line was dreadful.

Coming into the game the Saints had 3 or 4 sacks on the season.

JT did look terrible, but thats solely on the line. It's hard to be great when you have the entire defensive line 2 linebackers and a blitzing defensive back in your face within 2.5 seconds of the snap.

I think the line, O'Sullivan, and the offensive scheme are all to blame. It's a risky offense that is built for this kind of game to happen on occasion. There were several cases of bad blocking, and several more instances of O'Sullivan not doing as well as he did the previous two weeks at anticipating and escaping the rush.

If J.T. could learn to recognize when to get rid of the ball earlier and then do it, I think we'd be talking about another win today instead of a loss. I still think the line was mostly to blame, but O'Sullivan really needs to learn to think a little more quickly when things like that happen.

Eh...
The Saints were just the better team today.
Their defense was just beyond ready for the task at hand.

Im not to sure there could have been a plausible way for a win on this given day.

I mean it is 21-16 without that endzone int but it is hard trying to find a reason why we could have won this game. I do agree that JT does hold on to the ball to long(when he did actually have time and yes I know that was a rare luxury today lol). I must have screamed at least 3-4 times at the TV: "throw the damn ball JT!!"

To clarify: If our line is going to show all the strength of wet toilet paper, JT is simply going to have to find a way to get rid of the ball earlier. OR just eat the dirt and go on to the next play...

I like JT. I just don't want to see him splattered all over the field because of the Charmin line. (And I was more than a little surprised, as I was talking just yesterday about how nice it was to actually have an o-line for a change. - I know, I shouldn't have said it out loud.)

;)

If he doesn't throw those two red zone picks we could be talking win...but secondary got burned badly...it's really terrible.

Steve gets his #8 retired on sunday so lets get a win!

This team is frustrating.
Its not even fun to watch at this point.

Seriously had more fun watch the Dolphins run all over the Chargers in the game before.

Where is Vernon Davis?
Where is an offensive line.
Why can't our defense stop anything.

So much for my clearly false sense of optimism.
