It’s early but I saw him coming in to rest Monk but maybe I missed something.
As for why…. I think like Davion he is good at laterally moving his feet and staying in front of people. He has good court vision and is able to find his teammates when they are open.
His shot is a bit funky, like a Hali push shot, and has a low release point. I think it will hinder him in the NBA as a score first 2 guard. Plus I don’t think he has a score first mentality.
I mean, you don't "need" a score-first mentality as a shooting guard. That's silly. Guys like Derrick White, Marcus Smart, current Jrue Holiday and even go back further to guys like Avery Bradley or even our own Doug Christie.
He's shown a pretty good knack so far of attacking the paint and finding the shooter. That's stuff you can do while being a secondary creator off-ball.
Again, I think i'll hold off on really evaluating his offense until the start of next season. A rookie missing summer league, training camp and preseason and just trying to jump into the rotation 35 games into the year is tough to expect much. Give me great defense and rebounding and that's a role he can be valuable in for 15-20 MPG the rest of the year.
