I hear you, but I believe maintaining a relationship with Klutch was a big factor behind what happened. You can’t burn bridges with the biggest agency in the league.
You have to reasonably draw the line somewhere. If I'm the owner, no agent is dictating my decisions for my team. If there is push back in the media, I'd simply lay out the reasons for why it makes sense for my organization going forward

Was Houston willing to give up anything good for a half season rental? As far as I know Fox really really effed over the franchise by saying he'd only be a Spur.

Not that this franchise hasn't been run by idiots. The time to trade him was when he didn't extend, even though he was being wishy washy trying to get the mega super max, a slick GM would have seen through Fox with his crap effort the last few seasons here.
Unlike the Barnes trade I have no idea. But pretty hard to see how we could have done worse.

That’s a fair point. But it’s possible that there’s a lot going on behind the scenes that we don’t know about. You could choose to play ball and be part of the boys club or go against the grain, but if you choose to go against the grain there would very likely be consequences to that.

We need to stop blaming others for our own idiocy. We did not have to trade Fox. We could have waited until the summer or sent him to Houston now. Even if we did trade him, taking LaVine was our own dumb fault.
On this particular point, you and I are in rather strong agreement.
👍
Ditto. I don't think I've ever agreed with @sactowndog this wholeheartedly.

Technically, regardless of personal happiness, Fox was obligated to play out his contract with the Sacramento Kings.

Technically, this is a business, and nothing is personal.

Technically, the Kings were under no obligation to accept a Zach LaVine deal or any deal that didn’t benefit the organization.

Fox and Rich Paul were welcomed to play the Ben Simmons card and sit out the rest of the season.

All of this is true but @sactowndog shouldn't be able to wiggle out of his "we're going to make Zach's agent unhappy" comment by changing the subject to how stupid our FO was in bending over backwards for Zach's agent to get us to this point.

But for me, I've landed on the lunacy of Vivek planning on Perry taking over and not letting him be at the helm with dealing Fox. That's something you can tell Paul pretty easily "hey, I'm replacing Monte and I want him handling the trade". If we balks at that, then that's when you can say "**** em" to Klutch and not be held hostage by them if they couldn't work with us in thst fashion
What if the Fox trade or the ancillary moves are what changed the situation? We don't even truly know if Monte was fired or quit.

I think he wanted out after he was nudged to acquire DeRozan and Lavine...and the timing of the the firing of Brown. I don't see any scenario where he goes for those two players if he was fully in charge of the roster

After all this time I don't have the slightest clue what the roster would look like if Monte were playing NBA2k. I also don't know what Vivek's would look like. It feels like we just take whatever players we can get. And unfortunately our draft record is pretty poor overall even discounting for lottery luck.

I have said a lot of things I am happy to admit to but I don’t ever remember saying anything about “we are going to make Zach’s agent unhappy”??????

Not sure that is even in character. More likely for me to say F Zach’s agent.

I quoted it twice. You said that Zach would not opt out for a team friendly deal because we may have angered his agent, my reply was this whole nightmare was all about maintaining agent relations and in my book we're way past overdue on the quo for our quid.

Zach is not opting out. It would be the worst decision ever.

A lot of players in his stage of their career are opting out for multiyear deals that far exceed their one year price. It shows they are team players and allows them to retain some of their market value. At Zach’s stage every future contract is going to be declining so he stands to benefit by extending not being a minimum level player with a reputation as a loser.

Now does that mean he’d do it? I’d say probably not but again it wasn’t me who suggested he would!

In what thread did I type this comment? I can’t find it. Perhaps I misspoke because I honestly don’t giving a damn if we make his agent unhappy

Not when they are overpaid so much like he is. Come on now. Not every other player opting out is making FAR over market value.
