2023 NBA Draft Omega Thread

wonder if this signals a potential tear down in LAC land. Pretty sure Balmer wants to avoid one considering he’s opening a new arena in a year or som
Would love this for two reasons: need some stars to head east to reverse the trend of Durant, Kyrie, and Beal. And if NYC can land PG or another big name, maybe the Kings can swoop in and sign Hart after all.

Also still really confused by what the Pacers are doing (although that 47th pick is probably going to be even easier to acquire than the 40th if the Kings wanted to do it)

Mitch Kupchak having a job in the year of our lord 2023 is downright insane to me.
No one has benefited more from riding the coattails of Jerry West than Mitch. The man’s crowning achievement was trading Marc Gasol for Pau Gasol which only looked like a steal because no one had ever seen Marc play before.

I know they had a bunch of picks to start with, but Indiana has shown about zero interest in the Talent Fall Off portion of this draft. I get acquiring a first next year, but slipping from #40 to #47 for cash this early suggests their hope of finding utility at #40 was pretty low.
I guess the idea is that Carlisle wasn’t going to play or develop the 40th overall pick anyways so they were better off just selling it off but to get no future asset out of it of any kind just seems bad. At least Monte got Sasha when we sold off our pick last year

Yeah, I think this is less about the Pacers view of the draft and more about Carlisle's view of rookies.

Yeah, or punt the 2nd for a couple future 2nds down the line like we did with the Hardy pick. The trading down for cash process just screams of ownership being cheap. Really bugged me when Vlade did that when we drafted Kyle Guy.

Especially in this particular draft class. There was a better than zero chance of someone good being there at 40 and instead the Pacers just traded down for money. At least a heavily protected future conditional second rounder is Something you could package in the future. Cash is just cash.
