2014 Prospect Comparisons

Trying my best at finding the best comparison for guys in this years draft... here's what I have so far:
Joel Embiid (Anthony Davis)... Scott Pollard is on record as saying Embiid could be better than Davis. That's enough to get me excited! Size wise Embiid might be a little bigger than Davis. Production wise you're looking at 19pts/14reb/1.5stl/4.5blk for Embiid per 40 and 17.7pts/13reb/1.8stl/5.8blks for Davis. Pretty even there but Davis does have one significant edge statistically speaking... 2.4pf/40 compared to 5.8pf/40 for Embiid. Davis got 1.3 more blks per 40 with only half the fouls as Embiid.

Andrew Wiggins (Rudy Gay)... athletic small forwards that can score in a variety of ways. Scoring is basically what you're gonna get from Wiggins and probably not at an ultra efficient clip. He should be a solid player but not a sure fire superstar imo.

Jabrari Parker (???)... having problems coming up with a good comp here. Parker looks to be a tweener, makes me nervous. Not in love with him either but who knows?

Noah Vonlef (Derrick Favors)... better shooter than Favors with similar production elsewhere. Similar size and vert as well.

Julius Randle (Zack Randolph) Scoring and rebounding without much else.

Dante Exum (Michael Carter-Williams) Draft Expresses physical comp, not sure how similar their games are.

Doug McDermott (Adam Morrison) McDermott is definitely the better prospect of the two but comp wise no one is a closer comparison than Morrison. Same size, similar production, McDermott is the more efficient shooter though.

this is what i see them as
Joel Embiid (hakeem lite)...At first i thought he might be olowokandi but after watching more clips.. he shows up like a less athletic hakeem. his coordination for a player that has played organized basketball for only years is pretty good.

Andrew Wiggins (more athletic Demar Derozan?)... athletic small forwards that can score in a variety of ways. Scoring is basically what you're gonna get from Wiggins and probably not at an ultra efficient clip. He should be a solid player but not a sure fire superstar imo. rudy has smoother handles moves gracefully.

Jabrari Parker (carmelo lite/paul pierce)...

Noah Vonlef (Chris Bosh)... bigger chris bosh. derrick favors is a freak athlete.

Julius Randle (Zack Randolph lite) Zach has long arms which allows him to play bigger than JR will.

Dante Exum (Michael Carter-Williams) Can't put my thumb on who he resembles

Doug McDermott (Detlef Shremf?) a do it all forward not terribly athletic

Well,
1. Embiid got most fouls the same way Boogie does - stuck his fingers, where they don't belong. :D When protecting the rim, he showed pretty clean technique, that didn't lead to fouls. Marcus Smart was able to draw a few fouls superstar style by simply slamming into him though.
2. Wiggins ended the season with .571 TS%, higher than .558 from "NBA-ready" Jabari, and if you look at top-100 defenses the gap is even bigger - .523 vs .484. Where did "probably not at an ultra efficient clip" came from? And then we move to the other side of the ball, where Gay is a smidge above average, Jabari projects to be below average and Wiggins looks a pretty safe bet to enter All-Defensive team by the end of his rookie contract.
3. Vonleh looks good in most markers, but after "advertising for him" early on, I'm more hesitant now based on his very low assists numbers, offensive rebounds and drop off in FTs in Conference play. Of course, one can blame his usage as screening stretch center and lack of C&S capable teammates for assists and offensive rebounds, but I'm not 100% convinced.
4. Exum showed up at the Combine with the same body that he entered USA with. And that's a bit of a negative marker.
5. Morrison was a scorer, who could shoot (.428 from 3 as a junior, but .304 and .311 as an underclassman and .726, .758 and .772 from FT line). McDermott was over .400 from 3 every year in college, including .490 for 2 years, plus .875 and .864 from the line the last two years. He is a pure shooter. Poor man's Peja.

Hopefully we get third pick.
It will be Wiggins :D

I'd like to make my nomination for understatement of the year.

Parker - Less athletic and less skilled Glenn Robinson but has a bigger heart.

Wiggins - Rudy Gay on offense, Batumn on defense.

Exum - a taller Monta Ellis. No, he is not a PG; but he can be one heck of a SG.

Randle - he has an odd game, a slashing PF... Maybe a taller Millsap? A bigger slower Lamar Odom (as a PF) without the passing? No one quite come close.

Vonleh - Brian Grant crosses with Sam Perkins.

Smart - a bigger Darrell Armstrong.

Embiid - he resembles half of the seven footers who were picked #1. Sky is the limit (health not withstanding).

.

Interesting that people are comparing Wiggins to Gay offensively. I don't think they're similar at all. I think Parker's offensive game is much closer to Gays, though Parker has more of a post game and is a more willing passer (I do think Parker will be better than Gay, but they have a similar smooth style offensively).

Wiggins reminds me more of Paul George, on both sides of the ball.

Elfrid Payton might have a little Rondo in him.

Aaron Gordon was sorta similar to Blake after his freshman year.... I'm liking Gordon more and more. He has a good chance at improving as a shooter and if he does he might be pretty good.

Smart really reminds me of Derrick Rose in the way he can push full court and just bull to the rim.

but no more than that, lacks the explosion and flashy handle of a Rose at this point.

I feel like Smart and DMC would get on real well, Smart is a maniac on the court (in a good way)

Doug McDermott compared himself to Paul Pierce in the interviews at the combine, thats an interesting comp, I honestly think McDermott's ability to create space for himself is undervalued, he's savvy, he has that dirk/Pierce leg fade away down, he has the Kevin Love shoulder nudge down, he can rise up out of the post, he can run off screens, defense, yeah well.... but role player wise I think he will make someone happy.
