2011 Early First Round Mock Draft - The Draft

#31
Philadelphia are taking BPA, who also happens to fit perfectly with their young group. We're taking Tristan Thompson. We feel Thompsons defensive potential is huge, and when you consider that he has very solid skills and upside, there isn't anything not to like. He should help cover up Hawes weakness on the defensive side of the ball.

Charlotte are going BPA again. We're taking Tristan Thompson. We feel Jones can play SF effectively, and Thompson can probably split minutes between PF and C due to his length. Thompsons a very talented kid with alot of potential, especially defensively.
Isn't it Philadelphia's pick?

Sorry guys, was in a rush! Yes, Philly are still taking Thompson, and he's an excellent fit for them too. Defensive PF next to Hawes. Perfect fit.

Two good choices. Charlotte just got better defensively and also helped its rebounding. Thompson has a very good upside. Although he's only 6'8", he has a very good wingspan. He's also very strong for his age.

Yeah I really like Tristan Thompson too. Texas was one of the few teams I followed throughout the year (along with Kentucky) and I think he may go higher than he is currently predicted.

The Knicks are in desperate of a center and a point guard for the future. With the best point guards and bigs of the draft already gone, the Knicks select BPA:

Jordan Hamilton, Texas

#40
At this point, there isn't any one player that fills a need, so with the 18th pick, the Washington Wizards select:
Markieff Morris, twin brother of Marcus.

Was hoping Hamilton fell here, but I'll have to go in a different direction.

I know we just took Jones, but this guy is another potential lock-down defender. If Jones develops into a PF, and this guy into a SF, we have the foundation of a very good defensive team. They can also switch it up depending on the match-up.

With the 19th pick in the draft, the Charlotte Bobcats select Chris Singleton.

The Bobcats just made David Kahn's decision a lot easier. Minnesota really should grab a wing here, as Kahn still really believes that he's going to have Rubio/Ridnour/Flynn next season. Singleton was a major consideration in the conversation while waiting for Charlotte's pick to come in, but Kahn had pretty much already talked himself into the other direction anyway. So now that there's no need to fret over who to pick...

With the 20th pick in the draft, the Minnesota Timberwolves select Tyler Honeycutt.

Honeycutt is a bit skinnier than Singleton, but probably every bit as long (if not more) and has a more developed offensive game, despite a setback in his shooting percentage this season. He should be solid from the three-point line in the pros, have a great feel for the passing game (though he'll have to stop looking for the too-flashy pass, as he has a tendency to turn the ball over in those situations), and will still bring a good amount of defense. He did come up under Ben Howland after all, and he averaged two blocks a game from the wing this year.

The Blazers need a big body to back up Aldridge. They could take Tobias Harris here, but they don't need another tweener so

with the 21st pick the Portland Trailblazers select Nikola Mirotic from Serbia

#44
I'd just like to point out that even if Mirotic sticks in the draft, he's not likely to go in the first round given that he just signed a big multi-year deal overseas, he's not coming over anytime soon.

Denver is in a pretty good position, with flexibility and youth. They played very well last year, and didn't have too many glaring holes. Nene recently threw a wrench in the works by demanding a new contract, and at this point, there isn't anyone I feel that can plug right into the post. There were two directions I could go with this pick, but I prefer experience over potential (especially on a relatively young team), so the Denver Nuggets select:

JaJuan Johnson 6' 10" Purdue

I have also hired Sean May to help Johnson put on some weight.

Sorry was out of town for mothers day. I need 10 minutes to look through my note and catch up on who is already gone. Very sorry guys.

Well; given the choice between the left over wings, combo guards and bigs, I think Houston tries to ensure it has solidified their 5-spot.

With the 23rd pick in the NBA draft, the Houston Rockets pick: Lucas Noguiera, C, 6'11"/220lbs., Brazil.

Let the David Kahn jokes begin.....now.

I just figure the rockets have C. Hayes and L. Scola as their only serviceable bigs, they could use some more. I think this is the end of Yao in Houston. Unless he wants to asst. coach.

Lucas Noguiera was going to be my pick, but then I realized that Denver might need someone sooner rather than later.

With the 24th pick in the 2011 NBA Draft, the Oklahoma City Thunder select...

Justin Harper from Richmond University

I figured they were pretty well loaded at every position except for maybe an offensive minded wing, Harper can be that. He's probably the 2nd best shooter int he draft, 6'10, good athlete, and a solid ball handler. I don't know if he can make the transition to SF, but I don't see why he'd be any worse off at that position than Ryan Anderson or Vladimir Radmanovic, and they've carved decent niches for themselves.

The aging Celtics could need young future players at practically every position except PG.

With the 25th pick in the 2011 NBA Draft, the Boston Celtics select: Klay Thompson from Washington State University

The Celtics had to decide between Tobias Harris and Thompson. But unsure if Harris isn't stuck between PF and SF at the next level, they select Thompson who is a very good scorer and the Celtics feel that he's a steal at #25.

There aren't many holes in this deep Mavericks roster, especially considering Caron Butler has been out for months with an injury. With Dominique Jones waiting in the wings at SG, the Mavericks decide to go BPA, and select Tobias Harris

I am frightening myself at how impatient I am waiting for my turn at chicago's two picks. I guess I have no life. OR, I am just mad that I cannot take the night off work to come to the rally, so I am using this as my distraction. I hope all that can make it, have a great time. And I hope the event is deserving of the best fans in the NBA.

Sorry everybody but I haven't been paying much attention to this forum so I have no idea what players are off the board up to this point so I am just willing to give my spot to somebody else who has been keeping up with this thread.

With 27th pick New Jersey Nets select junior PG from Boston College Reggie Jackson, very interesting guard who can become Deron's backup for years to come and can see spot minutes at the 2 spot as well.
