Yeah, I agree with you. And so far he's played up to his good press clippings. He's certainly a big body. Just playing with Patterson has got to be inspiring. he's like the energiser bunny.

Renardo Sidney is an interesting guy... Literally ate his way out of the number 1 pick and into the early second round. But wow what potential. How a guy that fat and out of shape could be that athletic is scary. I could only imagine if the kid wasn't so lazy and crazy and actually worked out.
Athletically would be right on par if not better then Dwight himself. But Sidney is on another world in skill level. Def the most talented big man prospect period.

If he's available for our second pick you take the risk and pick him. That's a guy that was rated # 1 and blew it for himself. We all know players like this almost never pan out. The keyword is almost. If you have a chance to land the next Howard in the second round at that you take it period. Because you never know...

I've seen him play twice now. Great first game, not so much the second game. Got himself into foul trouble. He's certainly a handfull. This is a guy that weighed 400 pounds when he arrived in Texas, and now he listed at around 285 to 290. And that looks about right. You won't move him off the post. He's surprisingly athletic for a guy his size. Right now I'd say he's late 1st or early 2nd round. However if he continues to play well, and with a premium on big men I'm sure he'll move up the board.
Well, with it just hitting the news that one of our recent FO scouts (resigned early 2009) has been banned from the NBA for betting on our games, it seems like an appropriate time to update the rankings.

Omri was kinda hit and miss.. I wanted him, but didn't want him because a year before he had disappointed and dropped out of the draft. I don't know who I would have took at that spot anyway.. Not saying that team above was better than what we drafted, but we would have had some nice pieces. Plus I know we would have had to finagle a draft pick last year, but teams were just selling them for cash so it shouldn't have been hard to get an extra late 1st rounder or early 2nd.

Well both the guys I wanted I knew we wouldn't have a chance for . Rudy Gay and Brandon Roy. It ended up being a pretty weak draft once you got past the top guys. I will say however, Douby was not on my board of prefered choices.

ive had swine flu before, it isnt nearly bad enough for this statement to be true. thats like saying id rather have regular sized fries instead of supersized... the difference is like 89 cents...
sean may is horrible... if you had said, "id rather our entire starting lineup have swine flu for a week than have sean may on this team." then id be like damn... you really dont like sean may.

Funny you should ask. I just finished watching the Norh Carolina/Nevada game right before the Kings game. first off, Nevada gave them everything they wanted and had the lead with a couple of minutes to play. Nevada is a pretty good team. As for Davis, he had a nice game. I think he had 15 or 16 points and 15 boards. He also blocked around 4 shots. He could use a little more beef on his frame, but he's one of those silky smooth players. He always seems to be around the ball, either for a rebound, a tip in, or a block. He's listed at 6'9" , but seems longer than that. He has a complete offensive arsenal. Drop steps, little jump hooks, or a nice little jumper. He's a fairly well rounded player.
His teammate Thompson reminds me of Patrick Patterson. A little undersized, but has pogo sticks for legs and is all over the floor. He a little more physcial than Davis. Both on the floor together really helps North Carolina control the boards.

Hmmm! Not a bad comparison. Very similar in style of play. I think Smith might appear to be a bit more physcial, but in appearance only. Davis isn't afraid to get in and mix it up. A little more muscle would help though.

Babbitt is a very good player. I think comparing him to Dirk is a nice compliment, but not even close to realistic at this point. Of course Dirk wasn't great shakes coming into the league his first year. Babbitt plays at a completely different speed than Dirk. He's a more physical player that at times appears to be out of control, when he's not.
I think he played almost the entire game and was obviously tired at the end of the game when they needed him most. His shot just wouldn't fall, and it looked like he was playing on dead legs. This is of course, Nevada's main problem. No depth. And when you play a team like North Carolina that just keeps coming in wave after wave of fresh players, it catches up with you at some point. None the less, he had a good game and is the main offensive option for Nevada.

Well, while Smith has never been a star, and perhaps that was the ceiling set for him at one point, he's always been a lunch bucket, blue collar type of player. He's never spectacular but does a lot of the little things you need done. I would never call him a difference maker, but he can be a nice guy to bring off the bench for a contending team. He doesn't hurt you with mistakes. He'll grab some rebounds, set picks and play team defense. He's managed to to it for 14 years.
I think Davis has a higher ceiling than Smith. But I haven't really seen enough of him to make a real judgement.

I think he compares a lot to what people thought of Smith coming out of college, which was pretty high considering he was a no.1 pick. Whether they'll go the same route in the NBA, who knows.

Saw the NC-Michigan St. game last night. The frosh Henson (?) is a freak. The guy is 6'10 with arms soo long he's got to have a 7'5" wingspan, and he's athletic. I have no idea what kind of offensive game he has (probably very raw) but he has an incredibly high ceiling. Very thin now. Needs to hit the weights bigtime, but has an effect on the game despite his rawness and thinness.

I came away from the game with the same impression. He needs to add weight and quite a bit of it to compete in the NBA... His defense looked very solid though

What did you think of Davis? I still can't get a great read on this guy. He's going to be an NBA player, but just can't figure out what his ceiling is. I've never seen him dominate a game, so I'm starting to wonder about that. Is he really future All-Star material? If I had to guess right now, I'd say no.

Its a tough one...I've seen him play numerous times, and there's nothing that grabs you about his game. I highly doubt he's a future all-star. I said Dale Davis last year, but I think he might be a little different. Maybe its just because he's a long skinny lefty but I think he might be the PF version of Tayshaun Prince. Good defender and efficient scorer who only does what he's good at. I do imagine that because of that combo, plus his seemingly low maintenance persona he could be an extremely effective player for a lot of winning teams. Even if he never puts up the 20-10 that gets him to the Alll-Star game.

I've seen him play four times this year already. I agree that its hard to put a label on him at this point, but this is the first year he's been a key player. Now that Hansbourgh gone, he's finally getting minutes. The last game I watched he had 16 points and 15 boards. So he's effective, but not flashy. I missed the Michigan because I had company at the house so I can't comment.
Personaly I don't watch players with the idea in my mind of whether they can be a future all-star or not. Not fair to the player, and also it might bias my opinion. However there are players that do leap out at you with that possibility. But back to Davis. I think its too early to draw any conclusions on him. As for Henson. Sorry, not impressed so far. He started the first few games and looked a little lost. Maybe not impressed is a little strong. Maybe he played as expected for a freshman with talent thats 6'10 or 11" tall. Lets see what he looks like at game 20. Bigs always take more time. As stated, I didn't see the Michigan game, so I don't know what he did in that game. The kid definitely needs to get stronger though.

I will go out on a limb and say that with most likely at this point 10-12th pick Geoff will draft Greg Monroe, which may not be a bad thing since he's big and long enough and started to rebound(you should check Hibbert's numbers in this system). Yes, he's not much of a shot-blocker but he's long and will at least be an adequate presence. Since he plays in a Princeton system he also leads Hoyas in assists and...turnovers.

I just posted about Monroe in another thread. I've been impressed so far this year. He's appears to be taking his game to another level. He's down in the post grabbing rebounds and also scoring. Unlike last year when he fell in love with the perimiter and grew roots out there. He also appears taller to me. He still could use another 20 pounds of muscle. He hasn't lost his passing ability, and has a darned good handle for a big man. All in all he's very talented, and if he continues to improve his post play, he'll start climbing the draft boards.
