2 birds with 1 stone

Hall of Famer
This past offseason most ppl here wanted 1 or 2 things. A more Atletic starter and some more experience off the bench. Here is my suggestion.

Doug Christie is in the worst slump i can remember, his double digit scoring games are fewer and far between than any year in recent past. Last night Toronto game said it all. Doug used to be the guy that stepped up and scored 15 to 20 points when Webber and Peja were off, instead Doug got 8 points on 2-9 shooting.

How would we do with Evans starting and Doug coming off the bench. WAIT WAIT here me out.

Evans has proven he can hustle and rebound and do the little things to contribute. Isn't that what we need as a starter. Sure doug is a great passer, but we have Bibby and Chris and Brad for that in the starting rotation. Evans is flat out goint to the offensive glass and bringing some excitment back with highlight reel dunks. Maybe that is what our starting lineup needs is a good pick up the pace remember when you were young hustler to motivate the rest.

On the Back side of that. We have all seen Doug make precision passes to Peja down low for layups and has been known to take games over in games were Chris and Peja are not playing. It would be great to have those passes going to Darius off the bench instead of Darius relying on Evans or Martin.

This way you get a change of scenery for both Evans and Christie and more importantly our starting lineup that has become stagnant and needs to be stired up. This is a great way to stir the pot without getting rid of anybody. Doug will still get 25 to 30 min and be a great backup for Bibby or Evans and even Peja.

I got more to say but i would like to see some responses to see if it needs to be said

I like the idea! But then again that should create any ego issues. So probably we could start with Christie and then make an early substitution.

I beleive Christie is the least of our concerns as an ego issue. I would not be makeing the move to vamp the lineup as much as to vamp our bench. We don't need Doug with the other starting 4 we just need more hustle and offensive rebounding. Evans offensive rebounds are usless when he has to pass it back out to Tag or darius. It would be nice to get the board and see Peaj wide open for 3 because his man came in for the board.

It might be worth trying, against a team without an elite guard first of course.

I am not sure if you mean froma defensive standpoint. But didn't Evans do an asesome job on FSM the other night in New York when bibby and Doug had no luck.

you dont have to bench a starter to give his min away. The only thing that benching DC and starting Evans will acomplish is create possible hurt feelings. Not a good idea at all. If Evans contenues to play well and DC conteues to slump I trust that Adelman will shift min Evans way. No need to change names in the starting roster.

I am not even saying that Evans should get more minutes than doug. We need experience off the bench and our starting rotation needs to be hit with a defribrulator from time to time. It is getting stagnant and will stink if not stirred.

If you wnat excitment off the Bench then just leave things alone... Evans is bringing it.

i said experience not excitment. and isn't this the logical transition for us. Doug is on is way out in 1 more year. shouldn't it be tried before its to late and becomes a sudden change that can't be reversed.

If/When Doug sits due to injury THEN you start Evans. At the end of the season you reevaluate and tak to Doug before starting Evans in his place. Much the same way that MIller did NOT start for Vlade last year even though he was brouht in as his replacemnt. This season Vladea dn Brad knew who would start and Vlade chose to leave. Give DC the respect he deserves and leave him in the starting rotation untill the season is over baring any unforseeable event that necessitates such a change.

No, Evans is an energy player. That's what bench players do... They bring energy... Putting Doug on the bench and bringing Evans to start, would totally switch what both of them are good at.

I think that might be the real issue right there. Switching the two makes sense in light of our lack of a backup PG, but Evans energy and hustle is classic bench guy stuff -- gives you a jolt, but maybe not as effective as a starter. And Doug may be moving down the same road Vlade traveled last year -- smooth well rounded smart player who is better suited as a starter than a hellraiser off the bench. Be one thing if he was a scorer, but he's not, so its not even as if he could come in and give us a big scoring pop off the bench either.

As ana side -- I wonder how many pts a game Peja would lose without Doug to set him up?

Exactly what I was thinking. If Doug is playing bad Rick is sitting him anyway just like he does when Bobby is there, If Doug is Flowing or playing mad D he leaves him in. It's easier for the Kid to jump start off the bench, then to expect Doug to warmup before the game, then sit and get cold and come in at the end of the 1st/start of the 2nd. He's no spring chicken... Mo Evans is!

Pretty much sums up what I was going to say, and probably in a lot fewer words.

:D

When/If Bobby comes back, would you switch them back to DC starting and Evans off the bench?

Okay, I lied. I do have one more thing to say:

Evans has proven he can hustle and rebound and do the little things to contribute.
It's a little early to pronounce Evans anything more than a good go-to guy off the bench in Bobby's absence. Yes, he's shown he can bring energy and can contribute, although he still has a lot to learn (the technical and his aruging about it immediately comes to mind). He's gotten his reward for what he's done so far; he's earned a spot in the regular rotation which is, in and of itself, pretty impressive in the Kings line-up. It's way too early IMHO to be sending DC to the bench.

Feh; a month ago, everyone was saying the exact same thing about Barnes, and now half the people here are ready to toss him out with the bath water. Evans could be a contributor on this team for seasons to come... or, he might just be a middling player on a hot streak.

Whoa! Way, way, to much logic/intelligence for this thread!

I'll take that as a compliment...
That's what it was.
