1st trade of the offseason.. howard for james (merged)

well, there goes the thoughts of bibby to houston deals. not that they had much legs to begin with anyway. maybe we can send thomas now, since they have an opening at PF...

Yep, this was rumored a while back. Not exactly sure what Minny gets out of it, besides cancer removal. A somewhat shorter contract I guess.

Still somehow doubt that Rick is looking at James/Alston and going woohoo!

Good god, could Kevin McHale be any dumber?

He trades a very serviceable point guard that everyone in the world knows houston has wanted for years and who've we've tried to trade/sign multiple times.

And all they want is Juwan freaking Howard. Great, take him and run.

All I'll say is that this should give you guys hope that you might be able to trade SAR. If a team is stupid enough to trade a good player for Juwan Howard, maybe you can get something for SAR.

SAR's not really the challenge. I know we can trade him, if our GM ever gets off of his 3 year vacation.

Now Kenny Thomas....now THERE's the challenge. Say...you guys have a sudden opening at PF... :p

Teams Agree To Swap James For Howard13th June, 2007 - 8:51 pmESPN -
The Minnesota Timberwolves and Houston Rockets , who have been discussing a Mike James-for-Juwan Howard swap in one form or another since the February trade deadline, have agreed in principle to finally complete that deal this month, ESPN.com has learned.

An announcement of the trade's completion could be made as early as this week, according to NBA front-office sources.

The holdup stems from the possibility that another player or two could be added to the deal, sources say. The teams, though, have verbally agreed to a straight-up exchange of James for Howard at the very least. [READ]

Now at least we know for a fact our PF situation isn't the worst! :p

Well, you have to consider though that they have no starting PF, but its costing them $0. We have no starting PF, and its costing us $11mil. Think advantage might go to Houston.

KT would do better with Yao then sar with yao. KT would do the dirty work were sar would not.

I'm gonna go with neither is a good fit. We just traded away SAR's clone (Juwan Howard) and our PF probably needs to be able to make a jump shot now that Adelman is running the show (so no-no to KT, aside from the multitude of other obvious reasons not to want kenny thomas)

Howard wasn't a starting PF anymore, either; the Rockets were platooning both he and Chuck Hayes. Now that Alston can go back to the bench as quick offense (and as backup PG), that's definitely a gaping hole they need to fill, and will be tough, considering they're already over the cap.

Yeah, but they don't have the money to even add a backup the quality of ours.

He never was going to Houston.
What? You guys don't want Rafer? ;)

As a Rockets fan, I absolutely love this move. Mike is really going to be a shot in the arm on the offensive end. His passion will also be very welcome. With that said, I don't see him as the starter, but more as an instant offense kind of guy off the bench. I'd still love to get Bibby, but it doesn't look very possible unless you guys wanted Rafer. How about a Rafer for KT deal or a Battier, Rafer, #26 and friends for Bibby and KT deal? Mike and Mike in the backcourt. Come on, it's too perfect not to come true. :)

You know, find me a third team to take Battier...actually who would maybe take Rafer too, but more likely Battier, and who will give us a pick (hey, the #7 sounds about right ;) ) or kid or something, and my ears would begin to perk up.

You're not the only one. I saw it and thought "Man, this is getting interesting". This, however, is just McHale displaying some more incompetence.

Oh wait, the Cavs are still in the playoffs... how could I forget that

A great pickup for the rockets would be Warrick from the grizz.

'Some Rockets fans would agree wiht you, but I think they are mistaken. Warrick's a blown up SF who can neither rebound nor defend. They keep on saying they need an "atheltic PF" but I don't think thats right. They need a big ole full grown rebounding/defending monster at that spot. Full sized. Not a tweener stringbean who dunks and doesnt do much else.

I do agree on the fact that the rockets need a rebounder/ defending monster but I think Warrick could somewhat be that guy. I remember at the beinning of the season when Gasol was injured, Warrick played great avg a double double if i remember correctly. I am not aware of how great a def player he is but if he could avg atleast 10 and 7 or 8 that would be a improvment over what ever they had.

Justin Williams sounds pretty good. ;)
