YI find it a little amusing after all the nonsense/debate we've heard for years about how Reke is NAPG, that one of the first things a new GM will do is.....move him back to PG. I think a few will be shocked at how well this team can click and find success around a Cuz/Reke/MLM trio/core, especially if we add a guy like Iggy to it. That's a playoff squad next year.
I will be SHOCKED, and I will admit I'm wrong if it happens, but there is no way IMO that Reke can play PG for a playoff-bound Kings team.
Everything I have seen from him since he's come here has convinced me that he is NOT a PG.
(I'm referring to a PG as a player who initiates the offense and creates plays for the rest of the team, running the offensive system in a serious, competitive NBA game)
I don't believe Reke has proven that he can run a system whatsoever.
He basically runs the 1-4 flat most times he has the ball.
Sure, he can occasionally create for others and they've more-often-than-not bricked the shot when he does pass it to them, but the majority of the time he is shut down by any defense that focuses on him with the ball.
The VAST majority of Reke's scoring is off of broken plays and motion plays and fastbreaks, where the defense is not set.
I will readily admit that I have not been able to stomach watching the Kings as often the past 2 years as many of you, and maybe I've missed this proof that Reke can run an NBA offensive system against average competition, but apparently I'm remembering a different player than most of the rest of you - one that repeatedly has failed in most clutch possessions when it was down to him running the offense. The overtime in Denver was a classic example of Tyreke not being an NBA-ready PG against serious competition.
Remember the huge holes the Kings had to play out in the 1st quarter of when he would initiate the offense?
The 80-point scoring games for 10+ games?
I will happily admit if I'm wrong if Tyreke can pull it together and prove that he can do what he has not been able to do so far in his 4 years of NBA play.
One relief for me if the front office DOES go this direction, would be to prove once and for all (after FOUR FRIGGING YEARS) if he can (and therefore we at KF's won't have to debate whether he can or can't do it - we'll know for sure).
Of course, this is completely assuming that the new coach is heads-and-shoulders above Westphal and Smart- and that currently is a complete unknown, since they have AGAIN gone with unproven talent as the coach, who's never implemented a successful NBA system yet.
I just find it strange that KF's is apparently convincing themselves that an untested rookie SG, an untested coaching staff, and an unproven-at-PG Tyreke will come in and change the Kings into a playoff team.
Sure, it may happen, and I'll lead my boys in cheers if/when it does, but I just don't see enough change so far to wash the past 6 years of absolute Kings futility-in-the-face-of-legitimate-NBA-teams out of my eyes (and memory).
P.S. People willing to let go of one of the biggest bargains in the NBA (IT) when there isn't one other player on the roster who has proven they can run an NBA offense is insanely irresponsible.
Expecting a rookie to come in and perform to a proven-veteran's level is exactly how (and why) we got rid of Beno for Jimmer.
