If picking Cousins and Tyreke doesn't add to the legacy, for whatever it is, of Petrie, he has to no chance of looking good with this crowd. Who were better picks?

I hope Bird gets the job because he is good which should be the primary reason but also there is an image problem the Kings have. The average fan does not know who Mike Malone is and I am afraid the reaction is "oh, no, here we go trying to get a coach on the cheap." Hiring Bird might relax the average fan whether he is any good or not, ironically.

Some wanted Rubio, Petrie may have gone Flynn, but I'm glad as hell that we ended up with Evans.

ok. Passing on Rubio was a winner. Lots of mocks had Rubio before Evans. i was wrong on that.
picking demarcus cousins was a winner, too. just because it's a "consensus" pick doesn't make it any less noteworthy on a resume. i mean, ****, cousins should have, at the very least, gone to minnesota at #4, but david kahn passed on him for wesley johnson, of all people. that was a bad pick, when it would have been just as easy for kahn to make the obvious [and great] pick in cousins. geoff petrie could have passed on cousins, as well, opting for the safer pick in greg monroe, who he was high on at the time. and that wouldn't have been a bad pick, per se, but petrie did the smart thing, and picked a potential superstar instead, despite the red flags that were raised regarding cousins' attitude...

Will Ranadive pick his GM this week or later? Are all his candidates available now? Just a little impatient.
I watched a video of an interview with Sam Amick done by channel 10. When asked this very question, he said he thought, they would probably sign their GM sometime next week, probably by mid-week. Also, when asked about Tyreke Evans, and whether he'd be resigned, he said it probably depended on what the market was. He said if Tyreke gets and offer for 8 or 9 mil a year, then the Kings would likely match the offer. But if he got an offer in the 10 to 11 mil a year range, he doubted the Kings would match. So in his opinion, he didn't think that Tyreke would be returning to the Kings. Bear in mind, this is just speculation on his part. How much of it is educated speculation is the question. I got the impression from Amick, that there is going to be some serious house cleaning.

Its funny how writers all across the country have this idea of what the kings will do with players. We have had a new owner for under 2 weeks our new coach official tomorrow and still no GM but somebody out there knows what this GM will match for Tyreke. Yet he don't know who the GM is?

With no disrespect towards Amick, I seriously doubt if he has any inside track on Vivek or the Kings right now. Based on everything I've read about Vivek, he doesn't make decisions without a lot of data available. In that regard, I don't think he's going to cut any of our potential STARS without giving them a real close look in his own system.

8/9 is what I put his value at.. I would be shocked if a team had such a desire to give Reke 10+. His value league wide is not extremely high.. Grant said on KHTK, one of the major sports entities recently put out a top free agent list (ESPN ?), and Reke wasn't on it. There is no definitive value for guy who just finished his 4th year who hasn't had a concrete position and who's statistics have been tailing off since his rookie season. He is valued the most here, and in my mind will eventually take what we give him

I'm not sure what a couple million dollars a year makes when we are discussing a player who I think has been hamstrung by the owners and a coach who had his own little pet project and sacrificed a very big project in the course of events. If we lose Tyreke, then what will some of you have to complain about?

Anyone know how many teams have enough cap space to sign Tyreke? It can't be many especially those teams that are unloading players in the Dwight Howard sweepstakes. For those that don't know, cap rules allow us to sign Tyreke even if it takes us over the cap.

It's about time we made a commitment to excellence. With that commitment may come some risk. There are no sure things.

I think it's an irony that Houston is trying to unload TRob to clear up cap space for the very same sweepstakes.

And yet, even though the write-up isn't glowing, Evans is ranked #8 on the list from BleacherReport

There you go VF21, I guess he is on a lot of lists, who knows which one the redhead was citing... When you take a look at that list and see JJ Hickson and OJ Mayo around him, are guys like these going to recieve big money 10+ contracts? I'm confident, that we can sign Tyreke on a reasonable contract without someone throwing the bank at him, is all I am saying

It was a top 20 FAs list by SI. If Grant had bothered to take a closer look, he would have noticed that is was only referring to big men (not guards).

I don't think Dwight-Paul saga will end very quickly, but it's important to lock Tyreke within days of moratorium ending - at some moment wild money will appear and may drown everyone not swift enough.

I'd settle for a reasonably priced Daly who is a known quantity that worked well with Cuz. If we got lucky and drafted Porter all we would then need is a competent real live PG and I suspect we have enough trade bait to get that. Or draft a PG and trade for the SF as you suggested. With a little luck or maybe just a competent GM, we could make a nice quick turn in the right direction. It would not promise a miracle but it would show a FO with its head on straight. I even got a tingle of hope when TRob was traded for PPat.

Interesting.

Jerry West says he's not helping Sacramento Kings

Jerry West wants to make one thing clear: he's only advising one team. The one that pays him. The living legend who has been a Golden State consultant for more than two years has been connected to the

More like "hilarious". It just all goes to show that plenty (not all, but plenty) of the stuff you get from the media is nothing more than excrement heaved against a vertical room divider. What's even funnier is that apparently several hopeful candidates went straight to West..."Hey Jerry, I heard on Twitter you're running the Kings' GM search and I'd like to get in on...what? You still work for the Warriors? Well, of course you still work for the Warriors, but could you...but you can't be a consultant for...hey this wasn't really me it was just somebody pretending to be me <click>"

Yup. The more things are repeated, the more they are perceived as fact.

I'm just gonna hope its a smokescreen.
I'm not sure this is a scenario where a smokescreen is useful. Keep in mind, however, that just upthread we've pointed out how pathetic media reports often are. Maybe Marc Stein has his finger on the pulse of the NBA "executive grapevine" and maybe he does not. Either way (by that I mean Schlenk or Wallace) I'd like to have this out of the way within the next few days.

and now we have this

http://basketball.realgm.com/wireta...ng-Mullin-Dunleavy-For-GM-Job-As-Search-Opens

The Sacramento Kings have opened up their general manager search to Chris Mullin, according to sources.

The Kings have already interviewed Chris Wallace, Travis Schlenk and Mike Dunleavy.

League sources say there is hesitation from the Kings' ownership group to hire too many transplants from the Golden State Warriors following the decision to hire Mike Malone as head coach.

Vivek Ranadive is focused on executives who have a track record of success in the NBA's smaller markets.

David Morway, formerly of the Indiana Pacers, has also been in contact with the Kings.

The search remains "very fluid" and is expected to open up, according to a source.

Anyone but Mullin and Dunleavy please. Is there really that much of a shortage of GM options that we have to start wading through the trash?
