he states it in his post we would get iggy. if we took denver's place
Lakers get dwight howard + kings player (instead of harrington)
Magic get pau gasol and john salmons (instead of afflalo)
76ers get andrew bynum
Kings (taking denvers place) get iguodala
i believe that is the proposed trade if the kings took denvers spot like the OP stated, now who that kings player would be that goes to the lakers i dont know
I think that if we were to do something like this that Thornton would inevitable be involved. Under the original terms (in black) it would look something like this, where I'm assuming that Harrington is a salary dump and Afflalo is a desirable player. I've added in the red players to make it work under the cap, explained below.
Lakers out: Bynum (16.5) Gasol (19+15%trade kick = 21.9)
Lakers in: Howard (19.3), Salmons (8.1),
Clark (1.2)
Magic out: Howard (19.3),
Duhon (3.7), Clark (1.2)
Magic in: Gasol (21.9), Thornton (7.6)
Philly out: Iguodala (14.7)
Philly in: Bynum (16.5)
Kings out: Thornton (7.6), Salmons (8.1)
Kings in: Iguodala (14.7),
Duhon (3.7)
Now under that scenario, the Magic are the only ones who don't work under the cap rules. The Magic would have to send out $23.5M to get Gasol and Thornton, so they're 4.2 short. They could fix that by sending Glen Davis (6.4) or J.J. Redick (6) to the Lakers (who could swallow either salary under the cap rules) or by sending off Chris Duhon (3.7) and Earl Clark (1.2) somewhere.
Then the question is whether everybody does this.
From our point of view, Duhon doesn't do us much good. Iguodala takes over at the 3, with Tyreke getting the majority of the minutes at the 2. Overall, this costs us about 2.7M the first year, about 4.2M the second year, and "saves" us 9.7M the third year (but we'd have to bring Iggy back, presumably). I think this is a no-brainer for us.
The Lakers get Howard. They have to give up both Gasol and Bynum, and eat Salmons' contract for 2+ years (and Earl Clark's for 1) but I think they do this to get their next superstar.
The Sixers swap Iggy for Bynum. Given that their frontline is Hawes/Kwame/Vucevic/Moultrie, I don't see how they could turn this deal down.
That leaves the Magic, who get Gasol and Thornton for the obviously departing Howard, and dump a few not-terribly-useful contracts in the deal. I think they do it.
So in isolation, I think every team does this deal. But the question is whether with Denver involved the pieces (Harrington/Afflalo) are more desirable than the Thornton/Salmons we could offer. I don't know. But the framework of the deal, with either us or Denver in the mix, looks workable.
