I can't stand grant. With that said Webber sounded ridiculous. He lost it. Very very unprofessional. I understand that some here really love webber and I guess they don't see anything wrong with what he did. Ok, to each their own.
I totally agree that Webber lost it and sounded unprofessional. I'm just saying I think there's more to it than what Grant has said. If, for example, Webber was misled and thought he was going to be talking about the fan reaction, getting the jersey, etc., then isn't it a bit easier to understand why he got mad? Especially if, as he said, he left a meeting to make the call?

I guess all I'm saying is that i wouldn't put it past Napear - especially considering the past between he and Webber - to not bother telling Webber what they would be discussing. Ambush radio...

Really? And what possible agenda could Webber have? He didn't approach Jody Bacon; it was the other way around. And, for the record, none of us really know what he was told about why he was coming onto the show. Webber sounded angry and frustrated; Grant's rant after the phone call sounded childish and self-serving.
Crazy how we can hear the same interview and come away with completely different opinions.
The guy was calm and contrite until grant asked his first question. Then he flew off the handle and filibustered his time on the radio. Sounded planned to me cause he had enough wherewithal to drop his twitter handle and net radio show.

We'll have to agree to disagree. I think he was calm before the first question because he was expecting to talk about the fans, the jersey, etc. I think had he known ahead of time what Grant was going to say that he would have declined the interview.

Grant has been merciless about Webber in the past, especially when Webber was coming back from his injury. Napear said a lot of really crappy things... and never once apologized for any of them, even when proven wrong. So for Grant to get on his high horse in this case is rich, to say the least.

But I'm over it. Grant got me to listen to about three minutes of his show that I'll never get back. That's more than enough space in my brain. If he wants any more of my attention, he's gonna have to buy me a pony or something.

;)

They are just giving the people what they want to here... and people want to be informed on what just happened. It was really unprofessional of Webber and I'm pretty much on Grants side...unless Webber was ambushed but I'm going to take Grant at his word until Webber comes out and says something otherwise. Either way someone needs to explain why their was such a screw up last night and Webber is our only real insider on this.

Wow. I've always strongly disliked Grant and this simply reinforces that. Chris didn't act perfectly and he isn't without blame, but did Grant really have to go about it that way? To immediately ask the question in such an accusatory tone? How about breaking the ice with some other questions first, like a normal person who isn't socially inept?

And even when Chris got upset, which IMO is understandable given that he now feels Kings fans are upset with him, how about backtracking in an apologising way to show that no offense was intended? Instead Grant decided to act all authorative, demanding he don't hang up etc.. Webber made a mistake on the arena issue. It's not the end of the world and it's certainly not reason enough for such uproar. The whole situation is ridiculous and Grant has made it ten times worse by acting arrogant and whiny, as always. Hopefully Chris doesn't take that joker seriously and realises that the fans are not as fickle as Grant.

Just heard it. Why didn't anyone mention what Webb actually said?

After thanking the fans and reception, Webb said, paraphrasing,
"well, what is the correct information. If I got it wrong, then give me the info in the correct way. But, people of Sac, this isn't about what information was given, it is about the fact that at least people are talking about Sac. I'm the one who keeps Sac's name out there on national tv. You can't accuse me of being unprofessional about Sac, I'm always professional when talking about Sac".

So I'd say Webb was defensive, didn't want to admit he screwed up last night, and instead of acknowledging the errors from last night instead said well at least people are talking about Sac, and that's the real issue.

Must say I'm disappointed in Webb. If you realize, anyone realizes for important the team is to the city and the fans, then don't act as if the information surrounding whether the team stays or not is not important. But, I also think it's been blown out of proportion.

I agree that Grant can be a d***. For how tough he is on others, he never admits when he's wrong, which VF also mentioned. Him carrying on about it well after Webb hung up, and making it quite personal was as unprofessional as Webb was during the interview.

If Grant wanted to know why the entire TNT staff got the information wrong, he should have called up the TNT staff. Chris was passing on what he was told. Talk to the professional staff and not the ex-basketball player. Chris was ambushed. Chris enjoys adulation and was very emotional about last night in that he took a camera and took pictures of Sacto and the arena because he was afraid he'd never be there again. I presume he thought this would be what the conversation was going to be about. Grant ambushed him. I'm not going to argue about it. I've never listened to Grant's show and never will again.

Chris is not the most secure person in the world and very emotional. Didn't anyone know he was emotional. Grant knew what would happen. Chris made no mention of hanging up until Grant started the "don't hang up chant." Grant wasn't listening to Chris.

Have fun folks.

I thought Webber acted unprofessional for sure. But, I think the underlying problem was that it wasn't explained to Webber by the producer why they wanted him on the show. Webber clearly stated that if Grant had eased into that question after talking about what a great night it was the night before, he would have been more receptive to answering the arena question. So in that sense, Grant and his show were unprofessional as well.

I think Chris was all psyched up to talk about the game and getting the jersey. He even said something like it was the first time he'd worn a jersey since it was retired. He was proud and puffed up and then, from his perspective, gets crapped on by Grant. Chris then handled himself about as badly as he could have short of cussing him out. Bad scene but I still feel bad for him.

And on Grant...I simply think he sucks.

Webber called into the Napear show after Napear's producer called him and set it up. The first thing Webb did was congratulate Grant on the Giants winning the Superbowl. The first question Grant asked was to question how Cheryl Miller and everybody else could get it so wrong on the air last night. Webber said he thought he was coming on the air to talk about the reception he got last night, how grateful he was to the fans, how much he loved the Sacramento fans, etc. He also said he'd come out of a meeting and missed a flight to be able to be on the show and didn't appreciate being ambushed. He was talking, Grant was backtracking and Webber wouldn't let him get much of a word in edgewise. Webber said if he said something wrong on the air to let him know and he'd correct it. He then gave his twitter info (@realchriswebber) and told the fans if they wanted to talk about it to tweet him and that he wasn't going to be used by Grant on his show, or words to that effect. He then hung up.

In usual Napear fashion, Grant is self-righteously indignant, saying Webber DID know what the call was going to be about, etc. which makes no sense whatsoever. When I turned it off, he was ranting that TNT is the bigtime and he (Grant) isn't going to let them get away with blindly putting out bad information. In other words, Grant is milking this for all it's worth...

And in other breaking news, water is still wet.
Jodie Bacon is the one who called CWebb and set up the interview, and he specifically told him it was to talk about the mistake that He and everyone else on TNT made last night. I know not everyone likes Grant, but calling him a liar (and Jodie Bacon) is something that I have never found to be true about him. As for CWebb, he has always had an up-&-down relationship in the press. And he has ALWAYS been very defensive whenever he feels that he is being attacked. He sounded to me like he came on the show with an agenda (waiting for the question he knew was coming), and then went off and tried to blame Napier for the whole thing. And while he was ranting, he still managed to promote his twitter and website (don't tell me he wasn't prepared).

Grant hasn't lied before??? How about all the lying he did for the Maloofs prior to them officially wanting to move to Anaheim. He gives condescending lectures to people on the regular. I know Chris freaked out and kind of went full retard, but I can see why he'd be leary when Grant's interviewing him because Grant has said a lot of nasty stuff about him in the past. I think he freaked out because he was getting ready to be attacked like that again, I don't really blame him.

This bothers me.
Why did Grant have to bust out one of our biggest public ambassadors? He could have pointed out exactly what was said and how he could possibly correct it. What a prick.

Webber has done more for this team and for this city than Grant ever has..

No question, I'm siding with Webber. I really hope there is an out pour on Webb's twitter from fans supporting him and thanking him for always reppin our city!

In entire history of Kings notable figures in Sacramento, only Napear (1988 hire by Kings) and Reynolds (Kings lifer) desperately hang on endlessly. All the rest, from Joe Axelson (now deceased), to Jim Thomas (owner before Maloofs), to Geoff Petrie (1993 Kings hire) seem strangely obscure and completely overshaddowed by the Kings TV duo. I know a lot of Kings fans who won't shed a tear when TV color man Reynolds hangs it up - maybe by next season. They've always seem to tolerate his often corny wit and Hoosier wisdom. Extreme New York homer, brash, rude, arrogant Napear is a much, much more polarizing figure in Sacramento - and I bet majority of Kings fans in this town wish he'd been fired years ago. Peaches has a long history around CWebb that was always way more tenative than love fest.

just listened to the interview from the link. to me, it didnt really sound like chris knew he was gonna get ambushed. he said he thought he was gonna talk about the game last night, getting the jersey, and the fans showing appreciation for him. i believe he mentioned missing a flight...would you miss a flight to go on the radio and be accused of making a mistake on national tv and misinforming america? he said jodie called him and told him the fans wanted to talk to him and say some nice things, the interview didnt sound like what jodie told him. chris webber is one of, if not the only analyst on national tv that doesnt think sac is a joke. hopefully he doesnt think grant speaks for all of sacramento. last year he helped bring media attention to sac and us keeping the kings here, if he's pissed off and thinks all of sac turned on him, who do we have? and all this talk about him being unprofessional. how about not throwing him under the bus live on the radio. talk to him behind the scenes and tell him the correct info, maybe he will go on tv and tell everyone "hey i mispoke the other day and this is whats going on..."

Clearly on cwebb. As grant said how could he not know he was going to be asked that question? That's like having Janet Jackson on after the super bowl...

What about the G-Man?
#1 class act - how can I forget G-Man! I liked when he was TV voice of the team but it looks like he (and Reynolds) are near retirement. How about a new broadcast team of CWebb, Reggie Theus, and even the bombastic Bill Walton on both Kings radio and TV? Not sure who Kings can get as the new play-by-play guys but they're not that hard to find.

Please no.

I don't love Grant at all, but I think he does a good job at play-by-play. Especially compared to others around the NBA.
