How about we lay off Kahn's flop picks that he got instead fo Reke/Cousins altogether?

I will cheerfully take a quality young shooter onto this team. But when you are talking a Wes Johnson (career FG% .393) or Johnny Flynn (career .403) you are talking about highly dubious kids who either a) are shaky shooters; or b) haven't figured out how to play yet; or c) both. And we hardly need anymore of that kind of instability. If anything with the clear identification of our young Big three it may be time to go start swapping out some of the secondary youth for guys who can help us right now and support our young main guys as solid roleplayers who know how to get it done.

I think Johnson is going to be a better player than he's showed so far. Everyone was down on Evan Turner his rookie season, and he's turning into the player everyone thought he would be. Sometimes it takes a couple of years. Unless your Michael Jordan of course. My only reservation about trading for a young and inexperienced SF, is that we can pick up a SF in the next draft thats probably better than Johnson, and we don't have to trade for him.

That assumes, of course, that we get to go sooner than 7th in the draft. Lottery odds being what they are and all.

What's nice though about Johnson is that he's not coming into the league cold as a rookie. So when you buy him you buy a little NBA experience as well as his talent. If our next #1 pick is in fact a small forward, then you're probably talking about 2014 at the earliest before he makes an impact.

That's why I think we've got to get a solid vet in there. AK didn't work out. Maybe Orlando swaps Garcia for Hedo at the deadline to save a bunch of money if they lose Dwight. We've got to turn around this losing culture soon. Let the new rookies we draft earn their way in.

Wouldn't be at all surprised if we try to pry Granger from Ind. Doubt he's there long term. As much as I want Petrie to throw a big contract at AK this summer, a trade will probably be how we acquire our next sf.

I think its a matter of who the pick is. But you could be right. My reservation is that if we were to trade for Johnson, then we probably wouldn't go after a SF in the draft. I would simply have a heart attack if Michael Kidd Gilchrist is sitting there, and we passed on him because we traded for Johnson. So I'm being selfish. But what the hell, why not. Now that all becomes a moot point if we for once luck out and get the first pick in the draft. Then I'm going for Anthony Davis...

A large part of the reason for me bringing up Wes Johnson is that I feel you could probably get him at a bargain price right now. I would be wary of giving up too much for him.

Yeah, guessing about who is going to be available in the draft and how they might conflict with Johnson doesn't get you far. As an aside, to my mind DeRozan > Johnson. I'd also go after DeRozan, and would be willing to give up more for him. Not saying he's available, but if he were I'd go after him hard. (He didn't play well against the Kings, but I don't put much weight in that).

I'm pretty sure that Toronto considers DeRozan one of their players of the future, not someone they would be looking to trade.

Torotno considers DeRozan THE player for its future. As in they are banking on him being a star. No way they trade him. He's alson of course too much player for the role. The guy in that spot can only bank on about 10 shots a game. He just has to hit them, and make sure his opponnent doesn't hit is. He's not going to be averaging 15-20ppg though.

I think we try and get Wallace back. If Batum is really looking for playing time maybe we should make a play for Wallace. Gerald would be the best SF for this team IMHO.

Funny thing is that at the beginning of the eyar when I was suggesting trying to get Wallace a story came out in the Portland papers that convinced me once and for all that Geoff Petrie would enver want to bring him back. It was a story aobut how the Blazers had decided to let Wallace freelance, complete with quotes from Gerald to the effect that he didn't relaly like to play in systems where you had to be certina places and know what you were supposed to do all the time, he preferred to let his instincts guide him. And I was thinking that hd to be completely offensive to every sensibility Geoff has ever had about basketball.

I don't know if I'd take Wes on the Kings, but man, he's been a real disappointment considering he had all the tools and resume of a sure-fire NBA starter.

I'd really like to see him traded elsewhere as I think he has potential as a stretch-4 - consider he put up all that production in Syracuse in that position and now he's playing waaayyy out of position as a spot-up 2 guard. Still think this guy has a great shot at redemption, but he's got to be traded quickly before those bad habits he's developed become permanent.
