This is my problem with it. He's a restricted FA. That gives you all the leverage. If someone else makes a bid and you're willing to match it, you can. Why come out of the gates on day 1 with probably the highest deal and number of years he should have ever been given. At 5-6M, he's a young guy on a really good deal. Even if he doesn't work well with the team for some reason, you still have a young scorer at a very reasonable deal. $8M, too high.
He's shown what he can do in flashes. He's also had a couple lulls in his 2 year career where things didn't seem to be going right. That happens to young guys so I don't think you look at his potential but once again the Kings seem to bid against themselves.

How long to wait, though? Other teams knew the Kings would sign him around that number, and no other teams would go above that. Sure, the Kings could've low-balled him all the way into the start of the season. More of a good faith deal than a potentially scarring hard-nosed business deal over a couple million dollars.
OK. I want whoever thought that was funny to say it was a joke. And then sit in the corner for the rest of the day. This will be a confusing day without someone deliberately creating confusion. I am encouraged that Petrie did not sit back and wait for the market value to be set and be passive about it. Player's egos might not be something we all should worry about but Marcus has to feel good about the aggressiveness of the Kings. It is also ironic that as a second rounder, he has come out ahead of all those picked in the first round.
First mi amigo, how do you know his agent didn't show up with offers from other teams? All the teams were able to make offers, they just couldn't consumate them until today. So if there were other offers, I'm sure the Kings were aware of them prior till today. So its just as likely that they matched an offer, as it is that the just decided to throw 8 mil a year at him. Since Petrie never divulges anything, its hard to know the truth.
Jones is the Kings beat writer, and he's the worse one we've every had as for as covering the team. Amick, who covers national news has had the time to report more on the Kings than Jones. Jones, in fact, SUCKS!!! For three days he gave some lame excuse about now wanting to give the players his cold as a reason for not going down to the practice facility to do interviews, or for that matter just watch. He wrote very few if any stories on how any of the players were handling the lockout or what they were doing in the offseason.
As for as I'm concerned, he's nothing but a lazy a$$. And right as of this minute, I'm getting more info from the national media about the Kings, than I'am from Jones. His butt should be planted down at Kings headquarters gettin info. Instead he's probably at hime in front of his TV watching NBA TV and monitering tweets.
