Lineups with expected playing time

#1
I know this may be one of the least exciting topics we've had in a while, but seeing as there also hasn't been a new topic in the past week (exaggeration) i figured it might be interesting to have a bit of a contest leading up to the start of the season (god willing). Just post what you believe the starting lineup and expected minutes from each player may be. obviously it won't include trades and free agent signings between now and then, I expect things can be updated appropriately if something happens. I'll start things off with:

PG Tyreke 30, Jimmer 12, Isaiah 6
SG Marcus 30, Jimmer 15, garcia 3
SF Salmons 25, Garcia 10, Greene 8, Honeycutt 5
PF Hickson 25, Thompson 15, demarcus 8
C Demarcus 30, Thompson 10, Hickson 8

The formatting is just player name then minutes. pointless as it is, it's something to do...

No offense by Tyreke definitely and most likely Thornton and Cousins would be getting close to or in excess of 35 mpg, fitness permitting

Salmons would at the very least average close to 30mpg if not more as he is miles ahead of anyone else as a SF on that roster.

I expect to either keep Dalembert or sign his replacement which would ensure that some 30 odd minutes of game time will be taken up by that player.

No offense, but this looks like little league where everyone is guaranteed to play. We also haven't even entered free agency, which makes this impossible to answer, given we don't know what our final roster will look like.

I know one thing, Westy aint going with a 4 person sf rotation.

I have a feeling that we won't see Donte Greene playing mostly as SF. He will be used more often at the PF - that is if he will be used by Westphal at all.

I hope Salmons gets traded. We have had enough of Salmons before. Also, he is a dwarf at SF position. He won't be able to guard the likes Lebron or Anthony.

Are we piling-up on not-so-good veteran players again?

So you're saying that JJ Hickson is going to play more minutes that Tyreke and Thornton? God help us all...

All of this and more. I don't get the drive to do this kind of thing until FA is over. Are you guys REALLY that bored?

I have a strong feeling our roster will look a bit different by the time the season starts, but right now I'd think it looks something like this.

Evans (35) Jimmer (20)
Thornton (35) Jimmer (20) Cisco (24)
Salmons (30) Cisco (24)
Hickson (30) Thompson (30) Whiteside/Greene (6)
Cousins (30) Thompson (30) Whitside/Greene (6)

Rest of the roster rides the pine for at least a few weeks. I dont want any part of a 12 man rotation here .. we need to put our trust in a certain group of players and let them play night in night out. No more yanking around unless the problem becomes severe.

It's definitely not perfect. I just wanted to stir things up a bit since nothing's been happening lately to talk about. Maybe you guys could tell me your opinions on a few speculative questions: Who has the best season? Who has a breakout season? Who is the most consistent? Who is the biggest disappointment? Who is the biggest surprise? Who becomes a fan favorite? (other than jimmer)

But didn't it kind of look that way for the majority of last season too? :p Just not every game, game to game you didn't know who'd be playing, one night zero minutes, the next night 35.

I think we will be seeing some more experimentation with lineups. PW will probably want to see where the new players will fit into this team. I wouldn't be surprised if Hickson is playing some minutes at the point and shooting guard positions. Maybe Jimmer at power forward ;o)

As the roster stands, I expect an 8 man rotation. Evans and Cousins get 35 minutes each while Fredette, Thornton, Salmons, Hickson, and Thompson average closer to 30. One of Garcia or Greene get about 20. Kings could use a stronger player to complete their 8 man rotation, reserving Cisco and Donte for matchups, blowouts, and injuries. I don't expect Thomas, Honeycutt, or Whiteside to see much tick--at least initially--but I'm glad they are on the roster as potential rebuilding pieces.

When FA is over and we know what our lineup is, maybe we can answer those questions. Right now, we don't even know what the CBA will look like and who will be on our team.

But we have speculation, conjecture, supposition, wishing, hoping, fearing, hallucination, delusion, illusion, lucid dreaming and imagination to work with, Warhawk. ;)

Just to clear one thing up: Westphal said in an interview with Cowbell Kingdom that Honeycutt would be in full-on spectator/learning mode this first season because of the logjam at the 3. So you can dial up zero minutes for him right now. Then again, it's only July, so there's a high possibility that he could be the starter by the time we make it into training camp (*obligatory lockout "IF we have a ____"). Thanks Paul Westphal!
