HERE WE SAY GOOD BYE game... Wasted effort

#31
i'd just like to say it was great to see the place full, and actually get a win was perfect.... just wish it didn't have to be only the 2nd sell out all year.

the reason for the sell out was stupid.... it should be full or almost full every game... these kids could use the support.... as well as the team
If the Maloofs spend some money and put a watchable team on the floor I am sure more sellouts would come.

No it's not a wasted effort. Why? Because the Maloofs leaving Sacramento doesn't have to do with attendance. It has to do with Sacramento not being able to build an Arena. The Maloofs don't doubt the fanbase in Sacramento, they know what we're about. This is about an arena not the fans.

The Maloofs have been spending money for years. It's not about the payroll; it's about the quality of the team.

Furthermore, sellouts do not equal a new arena, which is the issue here. The Kings set records for consecutive sellouts last decade, and have no arena to show for it.

Bingo. I believe the point was to tug at their heartstrings and get them to give the city of Sacramento one last chance. I think everyone knows that, even if they don't file for relocation this year, if there's no arena deal at this time next year, it's a done deal. They're gone. The Kings could sell out every game between now and then and it wouldn't matter.

But, perhaps, if they wait to do anything, a viable option will be presented, a deal will get done, and they will stay. And if the fans show how much keeping the Kings means to the community, and the leaders respond by supporting a reasonable arena deal, then the game last night will have made a difference. This back and forth about attendance and what the Maloofs want to do and Anaheim is meaningless. The issue is whether an arena deal can be done, and nothing else matters.

The Maloofs are not considering leaving because of poor fan support. They may be leaving because of the dismal arena situation. If every game this year was sold out they would still be speaking to Anaheim. If no games were sold out, but we were building a new arena they would not be talking to Anaheim.
the argument here is that by selling out 1 game... there is no impact.... yes its about a new arena but its also about the Sacramento Market as a whole.... the maloofs are looking into everything.... and having the worst attendance in the league is making really easy to move the team sooner than later...

as far as the importance of attendance are you kiddin me??? attendance can mean the difference between someone looking to invest jumping on board or not... if the Kings attendance was holding strong or even in the slightly respectable levels people could say its a safe bet to build an arena... cause even when the team struggles it will be profitable.... but the fans ... "the greatest fans" are no where to be found.... who wants to invest in what clearly seems to be a bunch of bandwagon fans to the highest level....

if the Kings were selling out games all the time things would be a little different for sure

The team needs to lose to get draft picks and so far they have done real well. Fans don't like to watch losing so they don't go. That's no mystery. But the losing is in the plan to rebuild and they are rebuilding. Would you be disappointed if they did well the next few years and more fans turned out?

With the lowest salary in the league, how much money do you think they are losing in this plan to restructure and return to the way it was with Vlade and CWebb?

You good sir, have a pretty valid point. While last night's game won't determine the outcome of a new arena in Sactown, it was a little too late to wait THIS long for the city of Sacramento to decide to sell out a game at Arco. I mean it shows that they weren't taking things seriously enough and at last minute when the news got worse by the months, finally start responding to the Anaheim rumors and what not. I believe Sacramento is getting what they deserve, now does that sound harsh? I'm not just blaming the city by itself because they are not the only ones who could of determined the outcome. It would take a valid effort from the Maloofs and the major to get it all done but it just seems to me that even they think it's inevitable now. There was nothing to worry about when the team was competing but now that the team has had 3-4 years of lottery success, now it becomes a MAJOR factor. Too little too late I'm afraid as much as I don't want it to happen, I can't say I will be shocked.

Would be nice if "Here we stay" campaign wouldn't end after this game... If Arco would be sold out for like 2 weeks in a row with the same message over and over again, I think it would shake things up little bit more. Maybe I'm wrong, but that's just how I see it.

Are there any videos of chanting?
"Here We Stay" has been around working for a new arena for awhile. They aren't going away. Check them out on Facebook. Join and boost the numbers.

And people are welcome to buy as many tickets to the games as they can. I intend to do just that. As well as write e-mail and attend city council meetings, etc.

ha... i like all the hate... simply for stating the obvious... it was nice game with a rare sellout... im just not sharing this way over the top excitement over the only the 2nd sellout all year... i think its just embarrassing since 2006 the clippers have had a better fan base than the "nba's best fans" .... sure our teams have been bad but so have the clippers.... before landing griffen they were awful...

having basically the worst attendance in the league THIS YEAR is the black eye that is sealing the deal on a move...(remember NJ has a new arena on the way)

and one sell out isn't gonna bring back all the money the Maloofs arent making because of this horrendous fan support....

this year, this team deserved to have more fans... maybe this energy would have helped them to win more of these nail bitters, like last night... it would certainly be making a real argument to keep the team....instead this team plays with the least amount of fans in the league... on a nightly basis
Might I ask where you reside?

Hey, great job of riding the fence there.. You've got your butt covered whichever way it goes down... I've never seen such a bunch of losers take so much joy in losing. Do you actually think he's pointing out anything that everyone here doesn't know. Don't you think we all know that it may be too late? He's not enlightening anyone. He's gloating over our efforts and laughing about it. He's rubbing our noses in it. If you think thats making a valid point, then I don't know what to say.

Its about an arena, period. People are forgetting that the revenue stream at Arco has never been about just hte kings. The majority of events at the arena are not Kings games. The arena is not economically functional for all kinds of events.

Tell you what, though, I'd rather waste my effort on a slim chance of getting an arena and keeping my team in Sac, than sit around and be critical of anyone trying to do anything they can. This is a time to be united, not a time for petty arguments and divisions. If we had put as much effort into trying to get this done as is spent on criticizing everything, we might actually have a movement.

All I want is for the Maloofs to give us the one more year. Enought time to see what Taylor/ICON can come up with. If ICON says its just not feasible for Sacramento to build an arena at this time or the city could, but is unwilling to commit the funds required, then I'll accept and fully expect the move next year. I just want this one last chance for this community and its leaders to get their act together.

Don't listen to this sort of junk revisionism. Last night's game was the FIRST home game since rumors started dropping about the Maloofs negotiating with Anaheim and potentially filing for relocation. The FIRST. Prior to that, signals were mostly good that Kings would not file for relocation (this year) - the new naming rights deal with Power Balance, the timing of the potential lockout, the city council actually being serious about things and greenlighting the ICON/Taylor group to do the financial feasibility analysis. Kings fans who were concerned with the arena issue were not idle, they were justifiably focusing their efforts on getting an arena built - the surefire, longterm step necessary to get the Kings to stay.

Then, we were suddenly hit with the news that we might not be safe for the relocation deadline after all. An arena doesn't help keep the Kings in town if the Kings leave before an arena is built. Priorities changed suddenly. The sellout last night was not about showing the Maloofs that we can sell the arena out. They knew that. They've known that from the start, when we sold it out every night for years on end. The sellout was about showing the Maloofs that we want the Kings in town, that we are willing to take extraordinary measures to keep the Kings in town, and that we (Kings fans, at least) are willing to work hard to get an arena off the ground in the coming year in order to keep the Kings in town. The sellout was about reminding the Maloofs how special our relationship is with the team, how passionate we are, and yes, how much we will be hurt if the Kings leave. Keep in mind that the Maloofs are known to emotional people. They don't want to hurt us. We were asking them, to their faces, for a one-year stay of execution. And you know what? They knew we would be doing it, and they showed up to listen to us. They could have stayed away. They came out to hear us.

That's what last night was about, not about attendance numbers. Anybody who says differently is fooling themselves or trolling.

Agree completely. I don't even think the Maloofs want to leave, at least, it wouldn't surprise me if that were true. Since the Maloofs can't afford to build a new arena what else is left for them? It is time to move along our community plans to build a new arena. Get something together, spell what money it takes and let's go after it. Right now there is nothing that voters and politicians in Sacto City, Sacto County, Yolo County, Placer County and anyone else who wants to participate can act on, no plan, no agreement on anything yet. They are trying and maybe recent events will help by building a fire under everyone. And remember the "everyone" I speak of here is not our enemy, it is us and we need to work positively.

Let's not start a thread here to name all the reasons it can't or won't succeed.

Pretty much. The whole thing was tantamount to cleaning up your act after your girlfriend is already considering leaving you and has guys more successful than you already suiting her. Too little...too late.

If they didn't want to leave, wouldn't they give the mayor and ICON one last shot to get this thing done? Filing the extension doesn't exactly suggest they want to stay unless they're just deliberately creating a panic.

I recall quite clearly that he resides in Southern California. Might even be Anaheim proper but I don't recall that.
ha... you guys.... too funny.... look as someone on the outside looking in... it all seemed a bit funny and too late.... there's numerous factors going on with the Kings move... but attendance is where the fans could have made the biggest impact in keeping the team....

we have a team this year that we could all rally behind and still no one wanted to go... in fact if you believe that the fans may have willed the Kings to victory last night in anyway.... then shame on all those fans again that dont go.....

the attendance this year is an EPIC FAILURE for the fans of the Kings.... and while isn't the end all to the move its a big variable... again makes the Kings and the Maloofs that more willing and easy to move on

Its a very depressing and trying time for kings fans in Sacramento right now with news about the kings possibly moving. Thats pretty much a given. What i dont get is why some feel the need to bring down others even more by posting this kind of stuff. It seems pointless and it makes for a very negative environment. I come on kingsfans.com to talk about the kings with other kings fans as passionate as myself. I dont come here to get depressed and watch people bicker and fight with each other on these kinds of threads. Please stop this right now, because i am seriously considering leaving and not coming back. I really dont want to as ive grown fond of a lot of the posters here but i definitely dont need anymore stress/negativity in my life.

In case anyone wants to take part in a Sac Bee poll (it's on the right side).

The poll is in favor of the naysayers but only because once you clear your cookies and refresh, you're able to vote again and it counts.

I've voted 40 times in favor of option 1 already (The Kings are a huge part of Sacramento's identity and it would be terrible if they left).

It's roughly 1400 could care less votes to 770 option 1 votes.
