I've said for a couple of weeks now that there was trouble in river city. It was only a matter of time before it started to boil over. As I said yesterday, Cousins outburst was only the tip of the iceberg. Players are starting to point fingers, and thats not a good thing. Lack of focus is a lame excuse. Thats not what I see. I see freelancing. People, at least some people just aren't running the plays they're susposed to run. All it takes in one player to not do his part and the whole thing falls apart, and the next thing you know everybody is trying to make it happen on their own.
After the game Marty McNeal asked Westphal why he waited so long to bring Beno into the game when the Kings couldn't find a way to score, considering that Beno had scored 15 pts in the first half and didn't miss a shot. Westphal said that Tyreke is our guy. I can't take him out of the game just because he misses a few shots. He's our guy and I have to give him time on the floor. I didn't want to take Head out because he was the only player scoring, and he was playing good defense..
I think Thompson summed it up best. He said it wasn't that players didn't know the plays. Its that they just want to do their own thing. To keep this in reference, they were talking about the start of the third quarter when the only players on the floor were, Dalembert, Thompson, Greene, Evans, and Head. If you want to take Head, Thompson, and Dalembert at their word, then they had to be talking about either Greene or Evans. If you ask me which of those two might be the one that forgets plays, I'd probably say Greene. If you ask me who of those two might want to do his own thing, I'd probably say Evans. Pure speculation. Considering that Thompson and Greene are close friends, I doubt Thompson would throw Greene under the bus.
It might be time for one of those players only meetings. When you have a rookie on his first NBA team in Cousins saying that when he goes practice there's like a black cloud hanging over everything, and everyone seems negative, its hard, because all I want to do is win.
