Chopping Block: Tyreke Evans and the Team USA Roster

#1
With the recent ankle injury, and 3 days of missed practice and scrimmage, it appears team USA will cut Tyreke Evans. He still remains in the plans for future Olympic and World Championship teams.

Kings guard Tyreke Evans, the NBA's reigning Rookie of the Year, sprained his ankle and missed Team USA's final three practices and Saturday's game in Las Vegas. Evans said Friday that because of the injury he didn't expect to survive the team's impending cut and USA Basketball chairman Jerry Colangelo appears to agree.

Colangelo said that Evans being cut is "pretty obvious."

"It was a bad break for him," Colangelo said of Evans. "He's a terrific kid. He's certainly part of our group and our team. We'll be looking at him down the road (in future summers) in all probability."

I'm sure Bricklayer is breathing a sigh of relief. Now Tyreke can get healthy, and focus on improving his game for the season. Sometimes when you lose, you win :).

I'm glad he is going to be able to concentrate on the upcoming kings season. However, it might have been nice to see him play with other outstanding players on a team that mattered (all star games etc don't count) It might have been a good lesson on involving his teammates even more than he does now. I'm sure it would have been a humbling experience and a boost to his development.

Phew. Thank God he won't be able to play on a team with 14 other all-stars, learn how to win by better getting his teammates involved, and become more relevant on a national and international stage all while playing under 30 mpg as a barely 21 year old and doing it for the country he no doubt loves.

Crisis averted.

Now get back to working on your shot young man. Plenty of time for honors and All Star games once its fixed.

Still don't get this. The team's star play just got injured and fans are happy. What's with the assumption that this injury is no big deal and he's back on the court working out? How soon will he be working on that shot? Today? Tomorrow? 4-6 weeks? Forget the happiness over the injury and start wondering when he's 100% healed.

Well, you see, they were worried about the consequences of playing for Team USA - 1) that he might get hurt and 2) that he wouldn't have enough time to work on his jump shot. Because of those concerns, they thought it would be better if he didn't play for Team USA.

Naturally, now that he's not playing for Team USA they're happy, despite the fact that 1) he's injured, just like they feared, and 2) he won't be able to work on his jump shot at all until he's healthy.

I dunno, could have something to do with the fact that everybody has said the injury is no big deal and he's going to go back and start working out for the season again. But feel free to continue worrying about the end of Reke's career because he turned his ankle. I myself am going to focus on the more factual 6-8 weeks of training time he just got back by dodging this obligation.

Yup...and I think if Reke was hurt anymore than he actually was, he'd probably tweet about it(since that's what people do these days:D)...but the first thing he did after he tweaked his ankle was tweet about it and say it was no big deal and he'd be back with not much delay. I'm sure we'd here more about it from the local media too if it were anything severe.

Reke getting cut from Team USA is the best thing that could happen to the Kings. Tyreke can now get back to working on his jump shot and preparing for the season ahead. Plenty of time for him to respresent USA in the future. Once he gets that jumper down pat, they will be begging him to play for them.

Are Tyreke's ankles going to be an issue throughout his career? I remember reading somewhere last year that this has happened quite a few times in his life... In any case, it's not like he's breaking them, so keep on driving buddy!

The best thing to happen since sliced bread? Im impartial. It would have been cool to see Tyreke play with the USA team, but I cant say im upset that it isnt happening.

We're just lucky he won't get the chance to talk to Durant and Rose about making the next super team.
Sure are a lot of paranoid fans in this thread...

BTW, Durant loves OKC, Rose's dream is to play for the Bulls, and Reke by all indications likes his low key profile thus far.

Also, Rose/Reke backcourt? Two ball dominators that can't shoot a lick and rely on taking it to the hole every time? I wonder if you think two Shaqs would be a great idea too. Not every GM is David Kahn.
