So Ordinary That It's Truly Quite Extraordinary

The first replay is a tough call, but the angle on the second replay shows that the ball CLEARLY hits the rim. But ESPN goes back to running inconclusive replays and the announcers basically come up with the party line that the refs blew the call. Seriously, guys? That's terrible, suspiciously biased broadcasting. I'm cheesed, and I'm not even a Celtics fan outside of this series.
Yeah that really annoyed me. They did it to a Sox homerun against Cleveland a few years back too. Sometimes they'd rather make the story than tell the one that happens.

It was fun watching Kobe close his own team out and then Ron Ron deciding he was going to take over later on. Hopefully it's a turbulent flight back to LA and the team work carries on for game 6 at the sleep center.

lol! :D This just brings a smile to my face.
There's something about the grace of that elegant descending piano run being shattered by that Three Stooges approved pugilistic sound effect. Good stuff. :D

And the Celtics are lookin good, taking advantage of the calls they're getting. A couple of things-

1) did I see Derek Fisher beat KG on a jump ball?
B) did you see Kobe yell "F...... Foul!" when Pierce ripped the ball out of his hands? Haha that works on the playground but you can't call the fouls there dood.

Kobe is used to calling the fouls on the court. He's gotten away with it for years...and would have tonight had Dick Bavetta been in the house.

The Lakers do not have the grace or style to handle defeat with anything other than the kind of comment Phil Jackson used in the 4th quarter... "Hey, this team [meaning the Celtics] has shown they know how to lose in the 4th quarter. They've done it before."

Am I the only one who finds that somewhat offensive? He's exorting his team to stick around and wait for the Celtics to lose instead of urging them to fight harder and win?

I fear at this point in my life I will most likely NEVER be able to understand the mindset of Phil Jackson, the Lakers, or the vast majority of their fans... and I'm okay with that. :p

And 26 FT's to 13 (9 really, if you take away the intentionals on Ray Allen and Garnett at the end).

Kobe whines too much and just got out-muscled by Pierce who wanted the ball more... and PJax was gambling they could pull it out and that quote would give him some sort of mental edge going into Game 6. Probably backfires.

I feel like C's need to close it out next game. Can they beat the Lakers 3 in a row though?

Ah, thanks for reminding me. I loved the way the announcers avoided pointing out the discrepancy.

Agreed. Can they beat the Lakers three times in a row? Yep. And you know why? Because the Lakers know nobody has beaten them three times in a row...

LA just seems too much of a giant for the Celtics

Garnett cannot contain Gasol anymore and is an offensive liability now, artest will contain pierce, Rondo wont be effective..

Lakers in 4 unfortunately...hope im wrong

I'm pretty sure I know what im watching I've watched basketball and played for virtually my whole life and have a pretty good understanding of the game..

Artest will give Pierce fits, Garnett is not a second or third offensive option anymore, Bynum will take Perkins help defense...

Can't see the Celtics winning more than 2 games

Now... I'm not prepared to give the Celtics the championship, or anything... but you appear to have had that one wrong...

Or, maybe you were working the Baghdad Bob angle? Come to think of it, it makes more sense if you imagine it coming from him:

Can't see the Celtics winning more than 2 games...

I owned him in that debate haha

You didn't "debate" anything you claimed that I had no knowledge or little to no knowledge of basketball whatsoever, and in this "debate" we were to predict who would win the series? How was I supposed to know Andrew Bynum Would totally disappear from the entire playoffs? If he were playing normally the Lakers would absolutely dominate the Celtics. But I guess hindsight is 20/20...

The entire series went to Kevin Garnett disappearing, Lakers length giving absolute fits to the celtics to Andrew Bynum totally disappearing and the Lakers reverting back to the 08 form, not to mention Artest has completely fallen off the face of the nba

Dude I was just joking. And besides you still claimed sweep. Regardless if bynum was at full strength or not, the lakers would never ever sweep the celtics.

I'm not a big Celtics fan, but I hate the Lakers, so I'll root against them any chance I get. You know what's funny? The Celtics have only lost 3 NBA finals in their history, and they've won 17. The Lakers, on the other hand, have lost 15 finals in their history, and coincidentally also won 15. I'd rather see the all time championship record stay in Boston than go to Los Angeles.

Apropos of nothing in particular, Andrew Bynum is arguably the most over-rated center since Shawn Bradley quit playing. Just sayin'

People always talk about bynum and what he can do on the offensive end when healthy. But even when he has offensive break out games it usually never makes an impact on the game. The only time he has an impact is when he's controlling the middle by blocking and altering shots. But even then, for every blocked or altered shot, there's the bad defensie rotation which usually leads to a foul or an open layup.

Kobe is the most amazing shooter in today's game but apparently that's all the celtics are giving him. Most laker fans don't undersand that him hitting his outside shots is not gonna translate to victories especially against Boston. Keeping him out of the paint means Boston doesn't have to rotate and it doesn't give Kobe the option to give dumpoffs to gasol bynum and odom. This is keeping the lakers strictly one dimensional.

in other words kobe wont be shooting and making those tough shots all the time.

this is now an interesting situation here. I wonder if the C's heard or will listen to Phil jax's comment on them during the time out.. i hope its an inspiration for them to recreate the beantown beatdown they gave the lakers 2 years ago.

bynum is seriously overrated 30 minutes and 1 rebound on a critical game!? LMAO

Ray allen won't be cold the entire series... a trip back to LA might remind him of his hot streak im counting and hoping for it.

Yup, the Cs got back to playing the defense they had in 2008. There were many times where kobe tried to drive but drive into a bunch of Cs and either got stripped, blocked, or had to dump it back outside to the perimeter. kobe made some tough shots, but we all know he has many nights where his shots from outside doesn't fall and shoots 30%. They made kobe a jump shooter and any team would like that over having the ball in Gasol's hands down low 1 on 1.

If the Cs can play the same kind of D in gm6, they win the title. That and if Dick Bevetta isn't the ref which I have a feeling he just somehow will be. Good luck Cs.

Looking at who's on this Celtics team... Phil Jackson's fourth quarter comments will not be forgotten. They'll probably be framed on the locker room wall before game 6.

Things the Celtics need to do

1. Abuse Bynum's reduced mobility due to his knee
2. Keep gasol from getting into the paint turn him into a jump shooter and contest it
3. turn kobe into a jumpshooter frustrate him big time
4. have artest jack up those 3s ;)

the C's have a really solid D. unlike the lakers they do not have solid defense artest or no they really dont have good defense. the celtics are just missing shots its amazing how so many of allens shots were not falling if they were the C's would have decimated the lakers in 5 games.

i really hope they serve them a beatdown on game 6.

I've been saying Celtics in 6 since the start of this series, but after seeing the ratings recently, you KNOW the league is going to try to push this to 7 games. There is no doubt in my mind that the Lakers will have a 10-15 FTA lead after the game is over.

oh yeah there is no way this doesn't go to game 7. Reminds me of our own Sac/LA series a few years ago. Refs will try to make it happen.

i just hope that ray's jumpshot gets back to counter all the BS calls the lakers will get in game 6.

as much as people are in awe of kobe's shots falling on tough angles it takes a lot out of him too.... its going to be difficult for him to find that touch the C's have the lakers on their throats time to stomp on it and end this series.
come on C's!!! FINISH THEM OFF!!!

Absolutely. I hope Celtics fans aren't getting all excited about this. There's no way they win Game 6. Chris Webber will tell you, just like he was told in 2002.

I really want to watch this game but I'm afraid I'll start throwing things out the window... like my TV (and this one costs a lot more than the one I had in 2002)!
