Uh, no guys, it was flat out the right call. If it had gone off the hand in which he was holding the ball then its something. But it went off his OTHER hand, and well after Kobe slapped the ball.
The more questionable call was the rebound out of bounds off Odom when Rondo grabbed his wrist. That was clearly a foul on Rondo, and at full speed what the refs normally do is just call the ball out on Rondo to make up for it. But because it was on replay, they have to give the ball to the Celtics because the ball went out on Odom (which it did) even though the reason it did was because Rondo fouled him. That's shaky.

same thing happened in game 3- garnett and gasol going for the ball, garnett gets to it first but gasol hits garnetts hand from behind, forcing the ball out without actually touching it. i was watching the replay wondering what would happen - ball was clearly out on garnett but equally clearly forced out by gasol. refs gave it to the celtics. not sure what the rule on the books is, but that's what it should be- force out = goes to the other team, even if it was physically touched last by the team who gets possession.
I think it was applied well in this game, conceding that the refs have no power to amend calls or no calls. We're stuck with an imperfect science. They reviewed the one from Gm2 (Pau-KG) and got it wrong. In Gm3, w/o replay, they were going to incorrectly give the ball to Boston on the first call (Kobe-KG) and incorrectly give the ball to LA on the second call (the 1st Odom-Rondo situation), which is amusing because those two potential mistakes simply would've negated each other. The 2nd Odom-Rondo situation, with the uncalled foul, showed the limitation of replay because the league is not going to have calls overturned after the fact due to the inevitable landslide of criticism and allegations that will follow from pissed off fans and media who got the short end. What's also amusing is that right after that, they called a moving screen on KG for the first time in his career.
So, refs will either get it right in live action, wrong in live action, right in replay, or wrong in replay. We've seen all 4 of those options take place in the last 2 games alone. Such is life.

Most of them came after Boston figured out how to taper off LA's inlet passes into Bynum and Pau, leaving guys like Artest, Farmar, and Brown to create. THAT's a good part of why the Celtics had a chance to win down the stretch, though it doesn't help matters when any player shoots 10-29. The number 29 is worse than the number 10, it indicates the effectiveness of Boston's adjustments.
If Boston were smart, they'd go back to what they did well at the end of Gm 3 and do it from the beginning of Gm 4.

Ray allen better find his shooting touch cause if the celtics 4 stars had a good game they will win for sure
allen's shooting woes its those times they must miss the shooting of eddie house.
i dont get all the tony allen hype either big baby is impressing me thats for sure
im liking the physical basketball played, im just annoyed at all the calls... some of them were bull.
the longer the series takes the more it takes out of both teams. can bynums knees hold out thats the problem... and kobe's too just make kobe work hard on both ends.

Yeah, if the Celtics win game 5, they win the series. Difficult for the lakers to win 2 in a row with elimination pressure. Also, kobe does not perform well under the brightest of lights... contrary to what the media says. In games where his team is on the brink, he has played poorly more often than not. 04 pistons, 06 suns, 07 suns, 08 celtics....
No need to restrict the parameters to the last couple of years: Kobe Bryant, when facing elimination, is 6-8 for his career, with averages of 21.4ppg (on .385 shooting), and 3.1 topg.
Not-so-good news for Kings Fans: only three times in the playoffs, Bryant has scored 30 points or more when facing elimination... Two of them were against Sacramento.

So glad that ariza is no longer on the lakers.
You know what's funny? No matter how much I hate the lakers I was never able to dislike Trevor Ariza. Something about him, I guess it's cause he always played with his heart on his sleeve. Anyways, it's like the only guy from that lakers that I couldn't dislike the lakers got rid of. It's almost as if they only like guys on their roster that people love to hate haha

Wow, ESPN just hit a real low there. Ray Allen's three goes wide with about 1 minute on the game clock and about 1 second on the shot clock. As Perkins rebounds it, the buzzer goes off for a shot clock violation, but the refs overrule, claiming that the ball hit the rim.
The first replay is a tough call, but the angle on the second replay shows that the ball CLEARLY hits the rim. But ESPN goes back to running inconclusive replays and the announcers basically come up with the party line that the refs blew the call. Seriously, guys? That's terrible, suspiciously biased broadcasting. I'm cheesed, and I'm not even a Celtics fan outside of this series.
