Tyreke Evans ROTY & 20/5/5 Watch

George Hill rolled his ankle today against he lakers. He'll miss the rest of the road trip. Most likely the spurs will start Mason Jr. or Keith Bogans in his place. Assuming Tyreke won't be switched to chase around Manu, he should have a easier time than usual on defense.

Reke has stated before that Tony Parker is the hardest player he's had to defend so with Parker out with a finger injury, that helps too. An easier time on the defensive end should give Reke more energy for offense. Hopefully he has a similar offensive #s game like last time he dropped 32 on the Spurs. I highly believe Tyreke will get the 20 pts average. After all, he is a special player. He'll come through.
At the same time, when interviewed during that game, Tony Parker basically said he's ready to return and it's only the doctors that won't let him play. I really would like for him to sit the game against the Kings out, it's not like they need him or anything, right?

he can finish 20pts 5.5rebs 6asts right? What a savage, him being rookie of the year and 20/5/5+ should get us 8ish national televised games when Evan Turner also is added next season right? :p

Saw in an article this morning from sacbee (read it through twitter) so I'm not taking time to find it and get the link, but it says Tyreke hurt his knee in practice before the last game. His knee had swelling during the game and this really affected his offensive performnace. So, now he's fighting against an injury for the rest of the season to get his stats. It was not noted exactly what the injury was, or how severe. Might be a strain.

After his 6pt outing he is exactly at 20.0 pts. He has almost no wiggle room for the rest of the season.

When all this 20-5-5 started, I was worried about so much emphasis on that statline. They should have been pushing Evans as a candidate for ROY just based on his overall performance this season. If he ends up at 19-5-5 or 18-5-5, is he then a huge disappointment or not worthy of ROY? I don't think so.

He'll get the stat because its the main thing the team is playing for at this point. I just hope that if they decide to give him a 30+ point night by force they do it sooner than later. I'd hate to see him get the stat because of some silly David Robinson effort the final game of the season.

No, but it would really suck if he didn't with the way the Kings have been promoting it, I mean we have the countdown on the official website, the t-shirt, the promo, the every mention in interviews from anyone even remotely associated with the Kings etc...

If he turns into an obvious chucker these last five games in pursuit of 20-5-5, I think it could cost him votes. If he is chucking in the 4th quarter of a blowout, I think it could cost him votes.

What ever happened to the days when Ted Williams, batting exactly .400 heading into the last day of the season - a double header with no significance in the standings... plays and goes 6 for 8 to make it .406? That's how it is done.

I hope Reke doesn't end up having to chase 20-5-5 in an undignified way. It won't be meaningful to me if he sells his soul for it. If he dribbles out the clock in a final game blowout to end at 19.9-5-6 I'd feel better and he should still win ROY.

ANOTHER opponents injury note:

Rockets' Shane Battier is out with a knee injury and will most likely miss the rest of the season according to latest updates. Battier defended Tyreke last time to 4-22 shooting for 9pts. This is a very welcome news for Tyreke's quest.

Most likely they'll put Ariza on Tyreke now. But Ariza was never a really good on ball defender. He was good at picking off passes, but was just a very average on ball D guy. And may we wish that Adelman does the Kings a favor by putting Martin on Tyreke. :p

George Hill and Battier and very good players, it's a shame they went down with injury. I hope they get better, but I hope they take their time coming back and that it is not before we play against their teams!

Chris Brussard on ESPN just said Jenings should be ROY. He says Tyreke is good, he's the 8th rookie to get 20 points a game, but conveniently didn't mention the 5 rebounds and assist, and of him being only the 4th in NBA history to avg that. He also said Tyreke doesn't play defense, and Jennings does...

East coast bias at its finest!

WTF Reke doesnt play defense ? Hhahahahaha

Truth is that most sports journalists don't stay up to watch West Coast games other than the #1 or #2 western contender. They'll watch the Wizard and Knicks play, but not the Jazz and Nuggets.

I hit Chris with some of my patented disdain at halftime. ;)

Put tyreke on the bucks, and they might have 50+ wins. Jennings is good, but he sure as hell isn't the reason the bucks are going to the postseason.

No defense??? What is next? Are they going to say that he gives up at the end of games too??? I am pretty sure picking Gilbert Arenas (a more then decent ball handler) to win a game is pretty savvy for a rookie

Probably been posted before, but Jennings is only shooting 37% from the field...

Only 3.5 rebounds per game, too...

Dunno, but Jennings has no shot in this, imo...

Should go down to Curry and Reke - with Reke getting the nod for ROY

... and if during the last game of the season against Lakers, they choose to double-team Evans constantly? :D

I mean, like a college team did against Stephen Curry. They lost the match, but Curry didn't score any point. :D

All the more practice for Reke to hit those game winners against them in the future

The last time the Kings played the Lakers they did double him. They put Artest on him, doubled him at times outside, and the entire paint collapsed every time Tyreke went towards it.

Tyreke proceeded to eat their lunch and steal their lunch money for the next day. 25 PTS, 9 AST, 11 RBS, 1 TO

So, I say....please do.

Yeah, one thing the Lakers can't do is double team a guard with any effectiveness. I'm pretty sure they won't be taking that game all that seriously, regardless. Not unless Denver makes up the 4.5 game difference currently separating them for the 1 seed.

Perhaps, the lakers will rest their starters. Unless they are concern about homecourt advantage should they face the Magic in the finals. Magic is only 1 game back of the lakers.
