I hated season 3 but I guess I'm over the direction they've gone and will just try to enjoy it for what it is, I will probably watch this season over Christmas break on On Demand.

You'll love this season! I don't get Showtime but I have a friend who records the show for me each week so we can talk about it afterwards. I actually caught up on the episodes after watching the Spurs game last night and called him three different times to say, "Oh, my god!" Incredible writing and a totally delicious role by John Lithgow have made this season truly jaw-dropping.

Great season, but some huge plot holes opening up.

How was Trinity to know that Dexter wasn't working undercover for the homicide division and was merely leading him in to a trap where he walks himself right in to Miami metro for an easy arrest?

It seems like it would be an easier logical conclusion for Trinity to think that he was indeed undercover and not the deeply disturbed serial killer that he is casing his next big kill over a series of months through a fake identity and fake friendship.

I'm not sure if that makes sense to anyone, but it does to me.

Because if he did he would have arested him on the spot in the construction site. Trinity probably think Dexter is in it for the money.

Brutal!

I thought the kicker was going to be Debra finding out about Dexter. Once that moment passed and he chopped up Trinity seemingly without incident, I was holding my breath for the other shoe. Creepy when you realize that last conversation took place with Trinity knowing what he'd done to Dexter. Kind of an unspoken twist on the end of Watchmen: "I did it 35 minutes ago."

I'm certainly glad I stayed away from this thread until I'd seen this year's final episode. I have one thing to say:

Holy crap!

The writing on this series has reached a new level, a level I think should be amply rewarded come awards time. My friend and I have been talking about the possible plot lines for next season for days...

I just started watching this series Wednesday from Netflix, streamed directly to my TV. I love this show already and only watched two shows so far.

Just finished season 4.

It's not fair we have to wait until I think August or later for season 5 and season 4 to come out on DVD.

Always on the edge of my seat!

Was gonna say something about the ending that Micheal C. Hall confirmed but wouldn't want to ruin anticipation on what is or is not.

Nice to see Micheal C. Hall and John Lithgow take best actor and best supporting actor at the golden globes...just found out that Micheal has cancer too at 39 :(

OMG. We hadn't considered this possibility. Intriguing.
I get where people are getting this idea from(Dexter has been in a coma since the crash) but that would be a travesty. Everything would have been for nothing. All that had happened turned to dust.

This season was epic man. I mean these writers are something else. The acting is amazing. Michael C. Hall is just incredible. Everything goes together. They never leave anything out and never have you scratching your head saying where the hell did that come from? My only gripe with the last episode is when did Dexter get into trinitys car? I know they rushed that part of the story cause they felt that the ending was enough to have our jaws dropped for weeks. But they don't really tell you when or how he got to trinity. Did he get to the repair shope before trinity? Did he hide in the back seat? What I liked about that scene was that he caught him in the exact place that he got into the accident in.

I also liked how there were a lot of tie ins to season one in this season

the killing of Rita was hurtful but very much needed. This show needed a drastic change. It couldn't keep being the same thing over and over again. I can't wait to see the dark avenger! Should be very exciting. People keep saying what's gonna happen with the kids but I think that Astor and Cody are gonna stay with ritas parents. As for the baby? I really don't know. I'm sure dex will go back to the apt. The writers were genius in having Debra stay there knowing that they would eventually be having dex go back there. Season 5 is going to start off very dark and I think will stay like that for a while. I'm really excited to see what next season brings us. I love this show!

Welcome to the club, Jespher! And just wait...you ain't seen nuthin' yet.

;)
Thanx for the recommendation VF. I've plowed right through the 1st 2 seasons. The writing is just soooooo deliciously good :). The characters are woven so well, and it's also surprisingly funny in really dark, complicated ways.

So finally got done.

You're right, this was the best season since the first imho. They fixed everything I absolutely loathed about season 3, I didn't think that was going to be possible, but they did it.
I got spoiled about Rita's death but not the how's so it was still a pretty shocking conclusion even though I knew she was toast.

I probably won't be so cavalier about waiting until its about to drop from On Demand next season.
