Yeah, that's the attitude. Take the worst defensive team in the league, and tell possibly the only post scorer on the team that he won't get the ball because he isn't playing good defense. NOBODY is playing great defense, and the only way this team will win is by outscoring them. People are asking him to be something he's not. He's never going to be the defensive stalwart in the lane. What he can be is a diverse offensive threat.

May is superior to Hawes. May has a sweeeeet stroke.
Hawes is trade bait....please trade him..he has regressed.
I have a man crush on Brockman...what a stud.
Casspi...gonna be fantastic player one day.
Evans needs some time but the talent is impressive.
Thompson can't get a break from the refs. Why do they hate him?

I want him to get the ball when he has good position instead of players waving him off. I want him to have the opportunity to work down low instead of being put in a bad position. He took that bad shot because that was one of the few times he even got the ball. If you are desperate for looks, you are going to take any shot you can get, and that's what happened. This is the "give Martin the ball and STFU" team we are watching right now, and nothing is working that way.
That's the sad part, if it really did kill his confidence - if anything it should light a fire under his ***. He needs to wake up - it's year 3. I hope he improves but I don't feel at this point he should feel entitled to start and I don't think Kings fans should either. We can't reward poor play with a starting position. Hawes will get his playtime, he should use it to play hard and impress to EARN his spot back imo.
If the kings were playing with some energy and looked like they loved basketball, I'd be fine with the score.
Rebounding is more effort than anything else. We are standing around under the basket with our hands down. If a ball falls in our lap we get a board. No one is going after the ball - Thats effort.
Defense is also more effort than skill, and we are playing terribly dumb and effortless defense. Everyone has there hands down unless there man has the ball. We are doubling Russel Westbrook on the perimeter and not helping. Whenever we double anyone we dont rotate .. when there is someone open for a shot, we act like it is a forgone conclusion that that shot is going in, so no one even attempts to put a hand in there face. It makes me wonder what we actually work on in practice.
When your offense is give the ball to Kevin and get out of the way, and your defense is dont play any .. and you cant rebound to save your life ... what do these guys do in practice? 3 hours of free throws? ... how to foul? I dont get how a team can come out so flat and lifeless on the first game of the season.
Before I get jumped on for over reacting, Im not. Im not saying the whole season is going to be like this .. Im not saying we cant come out with a better second half, Im just saying what I saw during this particular half of basketball. It was aweful.
One last note to Geoff Petrie - Do you realize we are undersized yet?
