What are your expectations on the upcoming season?

#1
Barring any additional moves before or during the season, this is the roster we can reasonably expect at the start of the season:

G: Evans, Beno, Sergio
G: Martin, Evans, Garcia
F: Noc, Garcia, Greene, Casspi
F: Thompson, May, Brockman, Greene
C: Hawes, Thompson (I see more JT at C than May or Brock)

So, if everybody stays healthy, what do you really expect out of this team? To be competitive? To win 20-30 games? To not be last in their division? To yet again contend for the top lottery pick?

And furthermore, do you plan on attending any games?

i expect them to be competitive, build some team chemistry and growth from our 2nd and 3rd year guys. also, expect us to be positioning for a better lottery position by unloading guys who aren't in the teams long term plans.

yes, i plan on attending at least a few of the games this season.

It's strange. I don't expect the Kings to be any good next season, but for some reason, when I look at that starting 5, i get a feeling of extreme excitement. I think that starting 5 will be DOMINANT in a couple years, if still the same

My expectations? hmmm...

1. A better coached team AKA more teamwork on the floor/ less dumb stuff
2. Exciting games with exciting plays
3. Hustle
4. Wins? Who knows... if they are giving it their all, the wins will come.

Am I planning on going to any more or less games? I am splitting season tickets with some people this season! I normally only got to one game per season (two if I got lucky) Now I am going to tons of games! I am psyched! Also, lowering ticket prices was brilliant!

under 25 games. The competitions too tough, and better than us. We can talk about our guys all day, but unless you compare them to the rest of the NBA, you cant talk about wins. A win has to come against another team. Size our team up against the rest, and we come up very short.

I'm expecting significant improvements in one-on-one D and rebounding, smaller improvements in overall offense, and even worse performance in assists, TOs, and shot blocking. I'm expecting much better coaching, better team play, more effort, and better morale. Team D I'm not sure about, that needs to be solved by the coach, and I'm no mind reader. I'm expecting more wins, but not enough to come close to endangering our status as a lottery team, so I'm expecting another early pick next year.

Since I'm >100 miles away from Arco, I may not get to any games this year, but if Petrie and/or Westphal pull off some minor miracles, I won't be able to resist. So it seems unlikely, but... we will see.

So, what do I expect the coming year? Wow. Hard to guess. It so much depends on which group of rookies and new comers really mesh. When TO's are under 10/gm and assists greater than 18/gm, they will win quite a bunch of those. I think they will begin to outrebound many more teams this year. But until we can see Westphal's plan in action for couple of months, who knows?

Uhh, lets look at the basic 13 man roster and go from there. It seems from what little I heard at VSL, new Coach Westphal will be intermixing players quite a bit.

PG: Evans, Sergio, Beno,
SG: Martin, Garcia
SF: Noce, Greene, Casspi
PF: Thompson, May, Brockman
C: Hawes, + ? (EGADS, Kenny Thomas??)

If indeed Evans can start, it remains to be seen what sort of time Sergio gets and when Beno gets any time at all. I would all but guarantee the Kings will not play a traditional PG run offense. Maybe more a triangle and its movement.

Garcia shoots for 6th man of the year award and therefore would generally be first off the bench. He helps everywhere.

Noce is an established SF but Casspi will begin to push him for time but not seriously until January.

Greene is still trying to figure out what he is and show he has NBA game consistency. So far he has not shown either, but boy, is the potential there. But to do what?

JT is solid as the 4 and can easily move over to the 5. May is a big unknown but low risk. Brockman can come off the bench at the 4 pretty quickly. So I see their 5 bigs in many, many combos.

Hawes is the 5 but no real backup for him. UNLESS..........Westphal plays 2 PF, 2 SF and 2 guards.

So, what do Kings to with Kenny? He takes up a roster spot, has been model citizen while not playing for 2 years, and......and.....well, he makes so much will be hard to trade him and at 6-7 doesn't fit any position. Hmmm.

I'm expecting to see energy and excitement, and a return to positive team chemistry. I'm also looking to see improvement in Hawes and Thompson ... and hopefully Greene. I look to see Martin and Evans creating a lot of opportunities for themselves and each other ... and running slower defenses in circles.

I think Westphal is going to set a pace for learning that will enable the rooks to progress while making it exciting and fun for the fans.

I'll be attending as many games as possible. And I'm going to try and figure out a way to get my two granddaughters to their first Kings game at some point in the season.

Haven't posted in a month but after watching summer league I expect the Kings will be a 1 to 1 team in terms of a/to ratio. That will be the Kings biggest reason for the Kings record which I will put somewhere between 18-23 wins. As for going to games I am not. Father canceled his season tickets so I won't be using his either.

Question, when was the last time a team was (or has a team ever?) been lower than a 1 to 1 ratio in a/to?

Yes, only because summer league is a great indication of what kind of team the Kings will be this season...

Gary mi amigo. I missed you. Where's your cat? :D Too bad about the tickets. If I get up to Sacramento during the season, which I probably will, I'll treat you to a game. You buy the cervesa though...

I expect to see a 10 game improvement in the win column. That should still put the Kings in the lottery.

Westphal will come up with some interesting line ups. Barring injuries, I expect to see a rotation develop by mid-season of 8 or 9 players that can compete every night except for the occasional clunker.

Most of all I expect the Kings to start winning more at Arco!

Petrie should be able to deal Kenny Thomas and other pieces before the dead line for a good young player.

I expect I will bring my family to a few games.

I expect Evans to be the runner up, after long consideration, for rookie of the year.

I expect to see a few games that are won by Evans ability to get to the rack at the end of games.

I expect Kevin Martin to grow in his all around game.

I expect JT to slow down and get his game speed to the NBA level.

I expect Spencer to continue improving.

I expect a SF battle.

I'll go to a few games.

Okay, since I originally posed that annoying question, I dug through the archives and came up with an answer.

Before the early 1970s, nobody knows, because turnovers weren't kept track of. In the mid-late '70s, there were some truly horrible teams, and a few did manage the dubious distinction of sub-1.0 A/TO ratios. No teams have since. Here is the Hall of Shame:

1976-7 New York Nets: 0.872 (Amazing!!!)
1978-9 San Diego Clippers: 0.948
1975-6 76ers: 0.959
1973-4 Kansas City/Omaha Kings: 0.974
1977-8 Pistons: 0.990

So we probably can't break the Nets' record, but anything below 1.0 would still be the worst in over 30 years, and put us among the elite handful.

My only expecation is this core bonds together. I figure it'll take until 1/4 way through the season for them to really start being comfortable together but when they do it should be a great team to watch grow.

call me a pessimistic but hes what I expect to happen by the end of next year:

1. JT still struggles on D, doesn't improve much and people will be down on him

2. Hawes finally shows what he really is, a jump shooting 7 footer w/ little post game and an inability to defend and rebound.

3. Donte Greene gets close to being labeled a bust

on another note, I also expect:

1. Kevin Martin plays well and is top 5 in scoring, kings fans finally appreciate what we have. With Tyrekes ability to drive and dish, he should be getting much easier looks...

2. Tyreke Evans shows incredible potential and a ability to get to the basket anytime he wants @ the NBA level, but really is limited because of his shooting skills which he improves by the end of the season.

3. Omri Casspi shows flashes of brilliance and is held in higher regard than JT,Hawes, and Greene.

4. Brockman hustles 82 games per year and becomes a fan favorite and brings some energy to Sac Town.

5. Sean May shows he can play in the NBA and becomes a solid contributor off the bench, he finally finds his motivation: to prove everyone who's doubting him wrong and to stick around in the NBA.

6. Kings fans will have mixed views on coach Westpahl, some will already be asking for him to be gone.

record: 28-54

however, just like last year, I think we will lose about 9 games in the final seconds because of youth/inexperience

I hate expectations. So, let me just say that I plan on having fun (win or lose) because of all the youth on this team. I am excited about the prospects with Westphal as coach. And, I plan on watching some fast paced exciting basketball.

Unfortunately, as a state worker, the 3 furlough days have eaten up my disposable income. So, I may not get to any games this year. :( I'm used to at least 3 or 4. Having said that, I plan on watching every single game on TV. With all the excitement, I don't plan on missing a minute of action.

My expectations depend on alot. I know they all have talent enough to play at a high level in this league. Its how they play together. Team chemistry is a must. Luckily 4 of the 5 starters have played together and that could go along way (especially in the beginning). not sure anybody posted anything stat wise per player but heres what I got.

Evans 16pts 5reb 5ast
Martin 20pts 2reb 2ast
Noc 13pts 6reb 1ast
Thompson 17pts 9reb 1ast
Hawes 14pts 8reb 3ast
Garcia 13pts 4reb 3ast

My expectations are:

1. We gel and mature as a team.

2. We play hard with hustle.

3. Reke and Kevin, Shock and Hawes. That is all.

4. We make some sort of trade, mid-year.

5. We will win around 25 games.

Realisticly I think between 25-30 wins. I hope for the worst record again next year and hopefully we win the John Wall sweepstakes. Wed be log jammed in the back court but we could also run a 2 point guard lineup with Evans and Wall getting to the hoop whenever they please. Wall/Evans/Martin on the perimeter would be sweet. Martin could pull off the 3 spot if he keeps adding muscle between now and then. All wishful thinking of course. That would be pretty exciting though.

As long as that trade addresses interior defense and rebounding itll get my stamp of approval.

I'm expecting anywhere from 15-25 wins...the low side factoring in injury to any of our starters. Also, because we're starting two young frontcourt players who are not great defenders, foul prone, and still developing. And, ball movement will be a HUGE problem as the sole distributors will be Beno, Sergio, and to a lesser extent, Tyreke and Spencer.

If we're on our way to anything less than 20 wins, Westphal will be fired and replaced by Mario Elie. Hopefully, Martin stays injury free and plays good enough to be traded for a quality 1,2,4,or 5. Enough with the roleplayers. This will be another trying season as we're looking to be in trough for a while until some contracts are moved for either picks or better players. Petrie needs to be more aggressive...

I can't see many more wins than last season especially since almost every team in WC is better or at least as good as last season. Predicting division 09-10 w/ prior wins in brackets (assuming no major trades, signings, etc. heading into the season):

Western Conf.

LAL 59 (65)
SA 56 (54)
Port 56 (54)
Den 51 (54)
NO 50 (49)
UT 49 (48)
Dal 48 (50)
Pho 47 (46)
Hou 45 (53)
OKC 31 (23)
GS 26 (29)
MN 25 (24)
Mem 24 (24)
LAC 22 (19)
Sac 20 (17)

Planning to get to a handful of games this upcoming season like always and more so than ever since many great seats are nearly always available during this rebuilding era of Kings basketball.
