Way to early to tell - outside of John Wall, there's no real notable "superstar" at this point. And even John Wall is no sure thing - he wouldn't be the first #1 recruit to flop...
What's clear at this point is that the 2010 draft will have a lot of PF's and SF/PF combos. Again, there's a lack of big centers - at this point only Solomon Albabi and Jerome Jordan, both of whom are projected to be backup/fringe starter bigs at best. Not a lot of PG's outside of John Wall - depth of SG/SF remains to be seen. Just way to early to tell, but you can get an early idea...
What I'd like to address is the next offseason (because I'm sure this lingering problem will continue for 09/10) is frontcourt toughness/defense, perimeter defense and ball movement. Barring trades, we're going to need dire help at moving the rock. We're also going to a big who can effectively score in the post, block shots, and most importantly, defend man-to-man.
I have a feeling that John Wall, if he pans out, will be a score-first PG with a developing (key emphasis on developing) outside shot. Pretty much a Derrick Rose clone. Wall is athletic and thus could be a good defender in time. What kind of a passer he is, time will tell...but naturally, he's probably a better passer/truer PG than Evans. Wall would definitely be a good fit at the 1.
We could also shoot for an unselfish 3 or 3/4 combo who could defend the perimeter and/or the post while also being a facilitator to make up for the lack of assists coming from the 1 and 2.
We could also pick up a mid-first to pick up a backup center in the likes of Alabi or Jordan...
As of now, the 2010 draft looks to be average and has been for some time. But it should be better than this draft due to a stronger freshman class and a good amount of talent that didn't declare. Looking forward to it...
